That being said, the spread has overreacted to the Hurts news in a way that opens the door for those willing to take a chance with the Eagles. Philly's defense has the ability to slow and limit Dallas’ attack, all while serving up a slow calculated offense of their own. This news also had its impact on the game’s betting total, with the opening line of 50.5 plunging to 46.5 at the time of writing. This forces us to take a closer look at Hurts’ replacement, Gardner Minshew. The number saw a major swing once it became clear that Philly QB Jalen Hurts would be sidelined, jumping as high as -5.5 at some shops before falling back to its current offering. Dallas will be without their leading tackler, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

NFL Christmas Eve Takeaways: Cowboys defence steps up, Bills ... (Sportsnet.ca)

It looked like Minshew Mania was going to be the story of the day, but the Dallas Cowboys defence had other ideas.

The Jaguars host the Titans in the final week of the season -- and the winner takes the division. Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled on a handoff, ending the scoring threat -- and the Bengals hung on for their seventh win in a row. Rivera, whose team is clinging to the final playoff spot in the NFC, wouldn't name a starter for next week afterward. This is the same Stevenson who started the Patriots' bizarre lateral sequence last week, leading to a defensive walk-off touchdown for the Las Vegas Raiders. First, there was a home game against the Cleveland Browns moved to Detroit last month because of a fierce lake-effect snowstorm in Orchard Park, N.Y. The Eagles (13-2) still are in a good spot. The Bills planned to stay overnight in Chicago and hope to fly back to nearby Rochester, N.Y. But the Bills didn't get to celebrate clinching the AFC East title for a third year in a row on a plane ride home -- and won't spend much of Christmas with their families. While that may seem like a lot, Bills coach Sean McDermott put things in perspective afterward when talking to Buffalo reporters. The Eagles still had a chance with less than two minutes left, but their drive stalled at the Cowboys' 20-yard line. Obviously, the health of Hurts will be worth watching this week. It was Bland's sixth interception of the season.

Game Recap: Cowboys Defeat Eagles, 40-34 (DallasCowboys.com)

Thanks to four takeaways by the defense and the play of Dak Prescott, the Cowboys come from behind to defeat the rival Eagles, 40-34.

Three plays later, Prescott found Lamb in the corner of the end zone to tie the game yet again. Minshew connected with Smith three times during the drive for 44 yards, a 9-yard toss to the receiver providing the score. After escaping near disaster when center Tyler Biadasz recovered a Prescott fumble, the quarterback threw a 53-yard bomb to Hilton, his first catch as a Cowboy, on a third-and-29. Five plays later, which included a 21-yard completion to Schultz, and the Cowboys had tied the game once more. A mishap on an attempted handoff put the ball on the ground with Kearse there to scoop it up, giving Dallas possession at Philadelphia's 31-yard line. This came after the Cowboys went for it on fourth-and-1 at their own 34-yard line, Elliott darting around the right end for a 22-yard pickup. But a holding call negated the effort and Dallas soon punted for the first time. On the first play of the second frame, the Cowboys safety somehow hauled in an interception by coming up behind the receiver and securing the ball between his right arm and chest. Kicker Jake Elliott provided the three-point advantage with a 47-yarder, the score 20-17 at the break. Ezekiel Elliott then capped things off with a 1-yard charge off left tackle to the goal line. The quarterback finished with a season-high 347 passing yards and three touchdowns for an impressive 124.3 passer rating. Three of those were posted in the second half with two coming in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Defensively, the Cowboys showed some serious concerns Saturday. Meanwhile, three key Eagles were lost to injury during the game: cornerback The quarterback will no doubt push to play, but the Eagles’ decision-makers will have to keep the big picture in mind. With Minshew at quarterback for the injured Hurts, the Eagles’ offense remained high-powered, scoring a touchdown or field goal or getting into the red zone on every offensive possession that didn’t end in a turnover.

Spagnola: Cowboys Wish Merry Christmas To All (DallasCowboys.com)

Hark the herald direct from AT&T Stadium. Merriest of Christmases. Cowboys 40, Eagles 34. This team got them some grit.

But these are your 2022 Cowboys with two games to go, the past two weeks scoring 34 and 40 points, while also giving up 40 and 34 points in consecutive 40-34 games. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs that comes with a first-round bye, at least by one week, and at least giving the Eagles something to think about if they should meet again in the playoffs. And this story is not over with just yet. There is no team out there smacking their lips wanting to play these Cowboys. Maybe just a passage. To that point, the Eagles had scored on five of seven possessions. So, my point being, don't keep trying to come to some analytical conclusion about this team after every game. You bet, because after that the defense then arose from depths of despair. But the Cowboys did delay the Eagles from clinching the NFC East on Christmas Eve and the No. 25, of COVID-ravaged 2020, to start pulling away. "Once T.Y. Easy Kellen Moore: Just tell T.Y.
