The highly guarded estate is safer than a fort, so that the extraordinarily wealthy family can spend quality time celebrating the season festivities - sibling rivalry and all. The photography is as one would expect from a good Hollywood production, with smartly choreographed long takes, and the fuzzy warm Christmas tones that so well contrast with the rougher events in the film. The highly guarded estate is safer than a fort, so that the extraordinarily wealthy family can spend quality time celebrating the season festivities – sibling rivalry and all. A Santa who is tired, and seriously considering retirement. Little do the robbers know, Santa is there, and he is more agile than one would expect. Here we have a Christmas treat for all of us who have suffered from seasonal-film-overload.

Santa Action Movie Violent Night's Surprise Digital Release Date ... (Screen Rant)

David Harbour's killer Santa action-comedy Violent Night drops on digital platforms (at premium VOD prices) just in time for Christmas.

There is also another huge impediment to the future box office success of Violent Night: the December 16 release of the long-awaited James Cameron sequel Avatar: The Way of Water. This is most likely a bid to get as many eyes on the film as possible before next year. [Violent Night](https://screenrant.com/tag/violent-night/) has made a surprise drop on digital platforms just ahead of Christmas on Sunday. Despite being so early its theatrical run, there are several reasons why Universal may have decided to put the film out digitally so early. This digital release comes less than three weeks after the film's December 2 theatrical premiere, allowing fans at home to experience the bloody cheer for themselves while gathering at home with their families.

Violent Night offers heartfelt season's beatings — is it a new ... (Washington Examiner)

Amid the deluge of sequels, remakes, and adaptations that suffuse theater screens, it's always refreshing to see a film that makes you think: How has nobody ...

During his rescue mission, Santa establishes a radio line with Trudy, who has managed to escape and hide in the attic. Bryan Adams sings, “Something about Christmas time / That makes you wish it was Christmas every day / To see the joy in the children's eyes,” as Santa revives his Viking spirit in a grisly showdown with the armed robbers. In a later scene, after suffering a knife wound to his hip (incurred while thrusting a tree-topper star through one of the mercenary kidnappers’ eyes and plugging the light into the electrical outlet, igniting his face), Santa takes his shirt off to stitch up his cut, revealing his scarred and tattooed chest. Wirkola cleverly applies the same idea to a Christmas movie, reimagining Santa as an immortal Norse berserker from the 11th century. With a pithy backstory established, the film wastes little time getting to the action. Dejected with the consumerist, video game-obsessed youth of the day, Santa has turned to alcohol.

Violent Night: Santa Clause is Coming to Town - Comic Watch (Comic Watch)

Production Company: 87North Productions. Director(s): Tommy Wirkola. Writer(s): Pat Casey, Josh Miller. Cast: David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, ...

Just watching this may have put me on the "Naughty List", but it sure is a lot of fun! As it says in the title, it is violent, with a lot of blood, gore, dismemberment, torture and brutal deaths. As mentioned, the plot of the film is great and the movie flows well with an excellent and fast paced rhythm. John Leguizamo is always fun to watch, and he does a great job as the leader of the thieves giving a great performance as the man who wants to kill Christmas! The production value of this film is good with some nice special effects and some well-choreographed fight scenes. On Christmas Eve, the audience finds that Santa (David Harbour) has become disillusioned with Christmas and specifically his place in this modern world that he finds solace in the bottom of a bottle.

Stream It Or Skip It: 'Violent Night' on Streaming, Starring David ... (Decider)

The Gist: BELLCHH. It's Christmas Eve, and Santa's (Harbour) crocked. He laments how kids just want money and video games anymore.

But Violent Night hits the perfect tone for Christmas blasphemy, the movie equivalent of stepping out of the family party for a minute to sneak a shot of whiskey. This Santa could really use a fresh jolt of Christmas spirit, and he finds it in two things: a little girl’s innocence, and the sweet, sweet release of gratuitous violence. It’s not the first movie to flip the table on sentimental Christmas cheer, and follows its own formula of subversion – hey, lookit Santa, he’s barfing and bashing in skulls. Thing is, John McClane never whaled on the bad guys with a stocking full of pool balls or creamed thugs with a sledgehammer to the tune of ironic Christmas carols. Jason’s sister Alva (Edi Patterson) is also a Piece of Work who’s raising a Piece of Work influencer teen boy Bert (Alexander Elliot) and dating a Piece of Work actor (Cam Gigandet). The not-so-jolly old elf is smack in Harbour’s wheelhouse, and he and Leguizamo deliver spoofy hard-boiled action-movie one-liners with juicy aplomb. Granted, it indulges a couple of those feelings so it doesn’t fall into and get stuck in the depravity pit, but for the most part, it rebels against the feelgood slop of most holiday fodder. Santa catches wind of the shenanigans and before you know it, he’s kinda John McClaneing through the mansion while Scrooge Hans Grubers his way to the vault. He’s the real deal. Joy to the world for all the selfish entitled a-holes. [VIOLENT NIGHT](https://decider.com/movie/violent-night/): STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

'Violent Night' is the Goofiest Cult Classic You Didn't Know You ... (Cincinnati CityBeat)

Violent Night” starring David Harbour is one of the most stupid movies you're likely to love.

Years from now, there will be a “Violent Night” drinking game based on the icicles, candy canes, stars and tinsel used to maim and kill throughout. Subscribe now to not miss a thing.](https://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/NewsletterSignup/Page) This is a movie that spends an inordinate amount of time showing Santa get piss-house drunk and urinate and vomit on people from his sleigh. This is a family that lives in fear of its uber-powerful matriarch Gertrude (Beverly D’Angelo in fantastic and filthy form) even as they jockey constantly for top billing. On the flip side is only son Jason (Alex Hassell), his ex-wife Linda (Alexis Louder) and their daughter Trudy (Leah Brady). And it doesn’t give two craps about all the ginormous plot holes that will drive you to drink if you waste any thought trying to make sense of them.

Violent Night Stunt Coordinator Jonathan “Jojo” Eusebio on Training ... (Below the Line)

The action movie is the latest project from 87North, a production company founded by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick. Few filmmakers can compete with Leitch ...

We would have to whisper while we were prepping, and then as soon as we got a window, we’d shoot pieces of the sequence. Usually, that’s weeks and weeks of rehearsal, but we mapped it out the day before. We had to shoot like a splinter unit, in between shots on the main unit. We had to figure out how to execute this with David while still preserving a level of energy for the fight. I have an Eastern sensibility when it comes to action, but I think I have a Western sensibility when it comes to story. It took almost a week to shoot, including a day or two for the main unit. So we try to keep the stunts true to the characters and true to the actors’ abilities. And the room we shot in was small, so we had to reconfigure a lot of things to make it appear bigger. So you have to take in the fact that they’re children, but the progression’s the same — you start really small and build up, build up, build up. Black Widow only had a few fighting scenes with him, but for this [film], he really took the bull by the horns and just kind of went for it. Personally, I like to get them early on so I can teach them a base library of movements. BTL: One thing I love about your action scenes is how they show the physics of the stunts.
