GAME RECAP: Ducks 4, Oilers 3 (NHL.com)

Lukas Dostal stopped 46 Oilers shots on the night to lead the Ducks to a 4-3 victory at Rogers Place on Saturday afternoon.

I mean, that's a good sign for our team, that we're doing a good job keeping the puck in their end." Edmonton ramped up the pressure in the Ducks offensive zone, forcing the California club to take a pair of early penalties to start the third period. I thought their goaltender played pretty well and I thought we can do a better job on the goals against for us. Unfortunately, those chances against ended up in our net and the margins were thin today." The Anaheim goaltender was exceptional between the pipes, turning away 46 of 49 Oilers shots on the evening, and backstopping the Ducks to a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon. I thought there was compete and offensive chances for, but what we gave them was within our control and we can do a better job." It was a giveaway by Evan Bouchard six minutes into the third period ended up in the back of the Oilers net less than 10 seconds later. A late cross-checking penalty by Trevor Zegras allowed the Oilers to creep back into the contest. McDavid is now on a 12-game point streak with 12 goals and 15 assists over that stretch. Nurse was coming off a tough effort on Thursday night against the Blues where two of his turnovers lead directly to Blues goals. The last time he was at Rogers Place, McTavish famously swiped a Topi Niemela tip off Team Canada's goal line to save the day for the 2022 World Junior squad. Since then, the 29-year-old has registered 212 points in 295 contests between the Rangers and Ducks.

Game Notes: Anaheim Ducks @ Edmonton Oilers (Oilers Nation)

The Oilers are getting their first look at likely the worst team in the Pacific Division this season when they host the Anaheim Ducks for a Saturday matinee ...

It’s an excellent year to tank with Connor Bedard, who has 64 points through 28 games in the WHL this season, at the top of the class, and Matvei Michkov and Adam Fantilli as potentially franchise-changing prospects. Even the Arizona Coyotes, who are putting in an all-time tanking effort, are three points clear of the Ducks with four games in hand. After the trade deadline last year, the Ducks went 4-11-3. The Kraken currently have a 16-10-3 record and are tied with the Oilers with 35 points in the standings but Seattle has two games in hand. Advertisement The Ducks woke up with a 17-9-5 record on December 17 of last year and then promptly went on a skid in which they dropped eight of eleven games.

Player grades: mistakes doom Edmonton Oilers against Anaheim ... (Edmonton Journal)

Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers dominated when it came to Grade A shots but were done in by major mental mistakes by defenders Darnell Nurse and ...

Made a solid save on Vatrano in the crease early in the second. He had a soft pass picked off at the point leading to a breakaway and goal against, giving the Ducks a two-goal lead. He won a battle to set up a great Holloway chance early in the second. He showed some real life charging hard to the net in the second to try to jam in a McDavid rebound. Head down, he caused a deliberate offside in the second, not a major mistake, but the kind of heads down play too common on the Oilers and for Shore himself. He was rewarded for his work, going to the net and firing in a power play goal. He then went hard to the net and almost scored on a dangerous shot and rebound. He missed the net on a wide open slot power play slot shot in the second. He got deked out by Fowler on a dangerous shot Vatrano in the second. He jammed a crease shot on net, then jammed the goalie into the net with the puck, so no goal. Threw a hard hit in the second, his first sign of real life, then got off a slot shot and set up McD in the slot but 97 missed the net. He was a bit slow to move out to the point on the PK on the Ducks second goal of the game.

Oilers unable to get past lowly Ducks for third loss in last four games (Sportsnet.ca)

Ryan Strome had a goal and an assist as the Anaheim Ducks stunned the Edmonton Oilers with a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks wrap up a five-game road trip against the L.A. Out with injuries for the Ducks were John Gibson (undisclosed), Max Jones (upper body), Jamie Drysdale (shoulder), Isac Lundestrom (fractured finger), Derek Grant (lower body) and Anthony Stolarz (lower body). Edmonton has the league’s top power play while Anaheim is dead last on the penalty kill. It was the first of four games between the two teams this season. It was a privilege to play against them and it is even more exciting to get the W. McDavid extended his point streak to 12 games on the play.

3 Takeaways From Oilers' 4-3 Costly Loss to Ducks (The Hockey Writers)

The Edmonton Oilers badly out-shot the Anaheim Ducks, but a hot Lukas Dostal and some costly mistakes led to a 4-3 loss.

Evander Kane was a guest during the second intermission of the Sportsnet broadcast and said that sometimes players simply want a different look and that it motivates guys to get on their horses and get going. The Oilers will head to Nashville on Monday and Dallas on Wednesday, before coming back home to play Vancouver on December 23. Needless to say, Edmonton could use three wins to go into the Christmas break on a high and feel confident about their game. He’s been a trusted source for five-plus years at The Hockey Writers, but more than that, he’s on a mission to keep readers up to date with the latest NHL rumors and trade talk. Jim Parsons is a senior THW freelance writer, part-time journalist and audio/video host who lives, eats, sleeps and breathes NHL news and rumors, while also writing features on the Edmonton Oilers. There were times the Ducks tilted the ice, but for the most part, it was the Oilers who dominated the offensive zone. One could argue the Oilers never should have been in this position, having needed to have at least capitalized on a few of their many Grade A scoring chances, but credit should go where credit is due, Dostal had a fantastic afternoon. He made two costly mistakes, first turning over the puck at the blue line on a lackadaisical pass and giving Ryan Strome a breakaway that put the Ducks up 3-1. It will be intriguing to see how Woodcroft deploys the lines in the next game. This time it was Edmonton falling short in a 4-3 decision for the Ducks in regulation time. Then, after Edmonton came storming back to tie it, his second mistake was his screening his own goalie and allowing the Ducks to get the fourth and winning goal of the game. Edmonton’s downfall was leaking goals against, and when mixed in with the fact goaltender Lukas Dostal stood on his head for the Ducks, it meant the Oilers couldn’t even rely on a loser point where they probably deserved one.
