From Vicky Kaushal to Kiara Advani, find out how many crores the leading actors of Govinda Naam Mera charged for their role in the upcoming comedy thriller.
The 33-year-old actress plays Govinda Waghmare's wife (Gauri Waghmare) in the movie, and as per Telly Chakkar she took home a paycheck of Rs 4 crore. As she demands a huge amount to sign the divorce papers, Govinda decides to take things into his own hands and buys a gun to threaten his wife, but things take an unexpected turn when he becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. [Bhumi Pednekar](https://www.gqindia.com/entertainment/content/raksha-bandhan-heres-the-whopping-amount-akshay-kumar-bhumi-pednekar-and-others-charged-for-their-roles)'s film Govinda Naam Mera has arrived on Disney+Hotstar.
It's trailer suggests it isn't another sexist iteration of a married man juggling two heterosexual relationships. But that's misleading.
Even if she chose to be with her husband in the end, she certainly bears an indiscernible label of being a woman with [an] ‘unscrupulous’ character in the minds of the audience… Govinda and Suku — two aspiring choreographers — are denied payment by a rich gangster despite fulfilling their part of the deal and delivering him a music video for his spoilt, untalented son’s auto-tuned single. What the movie does venture close to getting right is the disposable manner in which the rich treat the poor, who are forced to cut their losses and move on because they have no recourse. It’s hardly surprising, then, that its primary female characters — including Gauri, Suku, Asha (Govinda’s mother, played by Renuka Shahane), and Manju (Govinda and Gauri’s domestic worker, played by Trupti Khamkar) — either titillate, or scheme to defraud “innocent” men, or do both. Although she committed almost as many crimes as Govinda — often in partnership with him — he “teaches her a lesson” for being unfaithful. [words](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLhEKMtnUiE) of film critic Sucharita Tyagi, makes the filmmaker’s misogyny apparent. However, it belongs in the 1990s and 2000s — in the era of Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Masti (2004), No Entry (2005), and Sandwich (2006). “It’s hardly surprising, then, that in real life, women often [feel guilty](https://www.rappler.com/life-and-style/relationships/265110-two-pronged-relationship-advice-leaving-abusive-husband/) for leaving even abusive husbands.” However, the dowry appears to be forgiven as soon as Govinda is willing to reconcile with her. The moment Govinda finds out Suku isn’t really in love with him, Gauri is happy to take him back. The titular character, Govinda (played by Vicky Kaushal), had been cheating on his wife, Gauri (played by Bhumi Pednekar), for over three years. In a twist that suggested she wasn’t a helpless homemaker longing for her philandering husband’s affections, it seemed like Gauri was carrying on with an affair of her own.
Despite a bunch of colourful characters, Shashank Khaitan's comic thriller fails to impress, and in the end, the title remains the only whacky thing about ...
Keen to hide more than to tell during the long build-up, Khaitan could not establish the contours of the triangle in Govinda’s love life, giving the story a bobbling start. Add a clever cop (Dayanand Shetty), a snooping maid (Tripti Khamkar), and a greedy insurance agent (Viraj Ghelani) to the mix and we have the ingredients to cook up a potent masala. In between, there is a shady businessman (Sayaji Shinde) keen to use the choreographer to launch the music video of his singer-son (Jeeva) who is more addicted to drugs than music.

Had the screenplay been tighter and more interesting in the rest of the portions, the film could have been a good one. The plot point is okay, but the screenplay was mediocre, and he should have done a lot better job in making the film interesting. The music was fine, and so were the production values. The narrative also becomes predictable till the final part, and the comedy, too, wasn’t good. The film thus takes a middling route to reach the climax, and hence the viewers won’t get engaged completely. The last half an hour of the film is pretty interesting as things start to unravel one by one. The portions of Shiyaji Shinde and his son are quite boring and routine. Despite having a good potential to turn the film into a good crime thriller, the makers didn’t develop an exciting screenplay. It is a crime comedy thriller with Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar as the female leads. She was stunning as Suku, and in the very crucial jail scene, her acting was simply brilliant. Govinda faces a property dispute with his stepbrother and also lands in a tussle with Ajith Dharkar (Shiyaji Shinde). Govinda (Vicky Kaushal) leads a miserable married life and is tortured by his wife, Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar).
