Melissa Carter and Miranda Kwok discuss the Season 2 finale of The Cleaning Lady, including those two shocking deaths.
He was just game to try anything and so it was fun to create this character that really is so nihilistic. Arman and Thony hold up a mirror to each other and show each other you know, who they are at the core. Somebody who could be so calm and then just like snap at an instant is kind of what we were looking for that he really delivered for us. KWOK: Robert is somebody who definitely amasses money for power, and he’s done that and so now he’s untouchable. Now that he’s gone, what is she going to do? Garrett is somebody that kept trying to pull her out of this life of crime and pull her away from these these bad decisions that she keeps making. We were looking for that nuance, and he embraces the bad guy character with such zest, such zeal, and he really enjoys it. He’s been such a supporter of the show, and I think that’s also part of that decision is that it would be so heartbreaking, so devastating to lose one of our leads. She isn’t in control, and that she’s going to make mistakes. So that was kind of the big, the big reason, and wanting a cliffhanger at the end of the season. What way is she going to go? She’s got all the chess pieces moving, and [Garrett’s death] really shows her that she can’t control everything all the time.
[Editor's note: The following contains major spoilers for Season 2 of The Cleaning Lady.] From co-showrunners Miranda Kwok and Melissa Carter, the Fox series ...
I just need to have empathy for what she’s going through, and I want her to feel human. I just want her to burn her wings. That’s how I had to relate to it because it was so much. I know that, for myself, when I’m so affected by things, and I have been in the past, I have this armor. It was very solemn, but I just didn’t want to shed a tear because I didn’t want it to be about her. I am not a producer or writer on the show, so I’m not really part of that. I want the audience to relate to her because she is someone who is going through a lot for her son, no matter what. How is she going to react to Thony? She’s someone who just lost her husband, and as much as she wants to help Chris and hide the accident because he’s undocumented, and I understand all of that, it still needed to impact her in a real way. Does it feel like it was just a matter of time before it became impossible for her to fix everything, all the time? I’m gonna suggest to the showrunners and to Fox that, if we’re really successful in 10 years, we should have his twin brother show up and try to figure out what happened to his brother, so that we could have Oliver back. But I really insisted, and we rewrote the scene where she is with the attorneys and Luca, and she just lets the pain go because she sees her son.

Catch the back-to-back episodes of the Season 2 finale of The Cleaning Lady on Dec. And since Robert is the key to obtaining Luca’s (Valentino LaSalle) life-saving medicine, it appears that the chances of her getting those meds are slim to none. So, since there was a six-month gap, it’s safe to assume that Season 3 will likely hit the small screen in the summer of 2023 — if greenlit by the network. After all, roping Garrett (Oliver Hudson) into a plot to prevent Arman (Adan Canto) from killing Robert will only mean trouble for all parties involved. We hate to be the bearer of bad news. The TV series stars [Elodie Yung](https://www.distractify.com/p/the-cleaning-lady-elodie-yung) as Thony de la Rosa — a doctor from the Philippines who, in order to get her son medical treatment, stays on an expired visa in the U.S., where she works as a cleaning lady and gets entangled in a web of crime in Las Vegas.
On The Cleaning Lady Season 2 Episode 11 and 12, titled 'Sanctuary' and 'At Long Last,' Thony did everything to save Luca and free herself from Kamdar.
Garrett made up a story in his head about what went down so that he could make Arman the villain, assuming he did it because Maya was a loose end that could out him to Kamdar, but he was completely off base. Garrett wanted the truth and he got it, but it wasn’t exactly the version of it he was expecting. Thony’s decision was also a huge miscalculation; Garrett may have proved to be a confidant in the past, but he’s very much a man of the law and one who has wanted nothing more than to get his revenge on Arman. She of all people knows what her ex is capable of and knows that Arman will never make it out alive if Kamdar is still breathing as he’s made it very clear to her that Arman is a liability. Arman took the hint, but Thony didn’t listen, hoping that she could still convince Kamdar to trust her and make a deal with him. She didn’t listen to the FBI when they told her to lay low because she was burned, and though she managed to do exactly what Garrett wanted—deliver Kamdar on a golden platter—it came with some real consequences. The focus has so far been mostly Thony as a loving mother who will do anything for her child, but I’m glad that we got to see Fiona finally realize that she has kids to think about as well. She was foolish to think Kamdar was her way out of this when we’ve seen Arman literally throw himself in the line of fire for her time and time again. If it weren’t for Thony and her efforts—misguided as they may have been in the eyes of the law—her little boy would’ve died. Arman has always been good for it, and the moment she found out he rerouted the shipment for her and put himself in the line of danger with Kamdar, she realized the error of her ways. And the reality is that Thony will always be an obstacle in their relationship because Arman simply cannot say no to her; she has a pull over him in the same way she did with Garrett. Though Thony remained a loving mother who would do anything for her son throughout the course of the two seasons, she was much more dangerous this season, and I think it’s fitting to give her the nickname Tornado Thony.
On The Cleaning Lady Season 2 Episodes 11 and 12, Thony felt the devastating consequences of her recent actions as Fiona, Nadia, and...
He was hurt that Thony didn't trust him and only agreed to help her find Fiona if she trusted him. Were you shocked by the finale and anxiously awaiting a Season 3? Thony was convinced she could bargain with Robert to take her to the Fentanyl by acting like a concerned mom, but he was onto her act. Thony would do anything to save her family, even break the rules. I know you did this to protect me, but you need to understand. As soon as the FBI saw her in danger, Garrett and Arman swung into action to save Thony. Jaz was shocked that no one told her the truth about Thony's double life, and Chris refused to let his mom suffer alone. Garrett decided to release Fiona and get them new legal identities if they found the drugs and caught him. Fiona really should have listened to JD and stayed away. She tried throwing Thony under the bus for stealing Robert's drugs, but he didn't buy it. It kept me guessing and was action-packed until the final seconds. Luca's condition had worsened so badly that all they could was give him morphine for the pain.
EW spoke to The Cleaning Lady showrunners Miranda Kwok and Melissa Carter about killing Garrett, Thony getting more comfortable with criminality, Nadia's season ...
She is also, in a lot of ways, very loyal to Armand and she's gotten the short end of the stick so many times, especially when it comes to Thony. We want to ground all of our characters in a human way and even though Armand hasn't physically cheated on her, he's emotionally cheating on her. What is the status of their relationship going into a potential third season? We wanted this interesting big bad that would come in and we always knew that he was going to die. We wanted it to feel satisfying to Armand and Nadia. Fiona is not that person and she wanted a relationship that was based on love, so she never communicated that she was undocumented at the time. JD comes in to ask what is going on and why their daughter is in this world of crime. He really had them under his thumb the whole season, so we wanted it to feel satisfying that they were able to get out from under him permanently. We also wanted to catapult to a cliffhanger where in a season 3 we see what Thony is gonna have to do to get Fiona back. Now, what is she going to do to get her back and how much further across the moral line is she going to go? We wanted to have a tragic consequence for all of Thony's actions. Fiona took him to the hospital and Thony De La Rosa (Élodie Yung) again did whatever she had to in order to save her son.
"The Cleaning Lady" co-showrunners Melissa Carter and Miranda Kwok break down the two deaths in the Season 2 finale and what's next for Thony.
It will continue to be a challenge that she’s going to have to find other resources to help her family, to help her son, to get Fiona back. We don’t know if they’re going to be able to rekindle or rebuild, but what we do know is that she holds all the cards now. And so what is going to be that influence to bring her back if it’s Luca or the family. MK: Had we had more time in the episode, there was going to be another shift where she was actually not going to try to kill him. MK: And also the fact that she still had her doubts — Nadia was not a murderer before, but Kamdar tried to kill her. But we ultimately wanted that satisfactory ending where you have two deaths in one episode: one that you don’t expect to happen and don’t want to happen and one that you’re looking forward to seeing how that’s gonna play out. Part of it is because of the system and part of it is we also want it to highlight that the things that she has been doing, that you’re not supposed to treat your own, that in itself is unethical. But at the same time, her son needed that medication, and when push came to shove, she chose her son. How much of that is her playing the game with him, or is there a bit of truth to that? But at the same time, as we saw in Episode 10, she was really faced with the choice where she was told that Kamdar is going to kill Arman. We wanted to turn all of those expectations of what she’s been able to do in the past and show that it’s not always so easy. So now all of her connections to the side of law have been removed.
Why did Oliver Hudson leave The Cleaning Lady, and his role of Garrett, following the stunning season 2 finale tonight?
It will continue to be a challenge that she’s going to have to find other resources to help her family, to help her son, to get Fiona back. And so what is going to be that influence to bring her back if it’s Luca or the family. At the time of this writing, there are no specifics surrounding Hudson’s exit, but story-wise, it’s clear that losing him is meant to throw another significant wrench into what is a really complicated story in the first place.
Is Oliver Hudson leaving The Cleaning Lady following the events of the season 2 finale? Tonight's two-hour event packed a lot in...
He was introduced from the start to be a Big Bad, so it only made sense that we see the end of the road for him. Of course, the show went to commercial when Garrett’s fate was still hanging in the air, and that left us in a difficult spot desperate for answers. Throughout much of the story we saw Thony’s life in grave danger, and of course that meant her doing everything in her power to both protect herself and her son.
Get the latest TV ratings for "The Cleaning Lady" season (series?) finale, "The Voice," "Great Christmas Light Fight" and more.
The Good Doctor (3.4 mil/0.3) headed into the break with its second-best audience of the season yet matched its demo low. The Great Christmas Light Fight drew 2.7 mil/0.4 and then 2.2 mil/0.3, with its finale marking season lows. The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. THE CW Leading out of that, Baking It‘s utterly charming Season 2 holiday special drew 2.4 mil and a 0.3. Heading into tonight’s coronation, The Voice on Monday night drew 6.7 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, holding steady week-to-week.
From the very start of The Cleaning Lady season 2, you may have guessed that Robert Kamdar would die by the end.
There was even debate about him not lasting through the first season, but there was still more to explore with him in season 2. While the plan was always to kill Kamdar from the beginning, because we loved Naveen and his performance so much, there were a few moments when we discussed whether we could let Kamdar live and get away. As fantastic as Naveen Andrews was in this role, it did feel like the sort of guy who was there to cause chaos and eventually leave.
The Cleaning Lady Showrunners Melissa Carter and Miranda Kwok discussed how Thony's actions led to some devastating consequences and...
Miranda: There will be some force on the law side of things to try to keep Thony in check and what she's doing. That is definitely up for discussion, and we'll see where those discussions lead because we need a nemesis for Thony on either side. And by the time JD was back in her life and was able to help and willing to help. It's difficult for someone like Arman because he loves both women; he is drawn to both women, so he will be stuck trying to navigate that in Season 3. Melissa: We wanted to throw a lot of obstacles in their path. Are we ever going to see Arman choose between Tony and Nadia because right now, he still has a Bonnie and Clyde thing with both of them? First, we wanted to upend the power dynamics between Nadia and Arman after season one, where Arman fell in love with Thony. In a way, Thony bought into that, especially if you look at Episode 10, where Armand and Nadia are saying no, we need to get rid of him now before he kills us. It was fun to have Kamdar come in as essentially a sociopath who is flashy, who is Mr. She didn't even share that with JD when she was pregnant with Jaz, and they had a missed opportunity where they didn't express how they felt about each other. That struggle and that journey will continue because she was on a darker path; therefore, there were more severe consequences. Miranda: There's a part of her that never wanted to go into crime, to begin with.
'The Cleaning Lady' closed out Season 2 in shocking fashion — co-showrunners Melissa Carter and Miranda Kwok break down the finale.
But Thony keeps getting in the way of their relationship and it can never be the same. So this is something that he was creatively prepared for, but it was still the toughest decision we had to make on the show. But what I do know is that I love you.” Arman absolutely does love Nadia, and before Thony came into their lives, they were a ride-or-die couple and we’ve seen just how loyal Nadia is to Arman, despite everything he put her through. The fact that she was still legally married to Robert Kamdar and now holds the title to La Habana, the sportsbook and all the wealth and power changes their dynamic. This was a really difficult decision to make, but a death we knew that would shock our audience and affect Thony the most. But that sexual chemistry and romantic attraction they have for each other is very much there, so there is a lot to explore in Season 3. But with the death of Garrett and Fiona’s deportation, she has to face those consequences and realize all the mistakes she made. We also discussed that different people might kill him, such as Arman or Garrett, but Nadia was always a forerunner, and after everything he did to them — and to her — we wanted a real moment of empowerment for Nadia. The difficult part was that it was right for the storytelling, but incredibly hard to kill one of our favorite actors on the show. But we wanted to end his story this season and didn’t want to have a lingering question of whether he would come back, nor did we want a continued FBI pursuit of Kamdar. This was a man Nadia never intended to draw back into her life, but when she desperately needed the money to bribe a judge to get Arman out of prison, she had no choice. It felt inevitable that a villain who loomed as largely as he did would have to die by the end of the season — but did you consider keeping him alive at all?

The Cleaning Lady season 2 finale didn't end in FBI agent Garrett Miller's favor. Has the character made his exit? Here's what we know!
By killing Garrett, we wanted to strip Thony of one of the lifelines she has. Garrett did die in the season 2 finale. Thony’s going to have to live with the consequences of her choices and what that means going forward now that she no longer has her friend and, therefore, the law on her side. Unfortunately, Garrett got caught up in the mess of decisions that Thony has had to make this season and we’re not simply talking about Maya’s death. While the first season kept her mostly on the outer rim of the life her boss (turned friend, turned something too close for a married man to be), this season she’s gone deeper into the gritty, seedy business she’d once been above. True to form, the finale followed this pattern.
