Edmonton Oilers light up Predators (Globalnews.ca)

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and four assists as the Edmonton Oilers blasted the Nashville Predators 7-4 on Tuesday.

“We’re here to win a championship,” Draisaitl said post-game. Draisaitl had a goal and four assists. “All in all, it’s a big two points.” Just 26 later, Connor McDavid scored on a two-on-one for his tenth of the season. “That’s why I’m here,” Kane said with a chuckle when asked about finishing plays set up by McDavid and Draisaitl. Kane benefitted from another incredible feed from Draisaitl not long after to make it 2-1.

“With that being said, we are here to win a championship and look at the big picture. “One was a six-on-four, but there was a few things that we can do better on both of those goals,” allowed Woodcroft. “That is what we are paid to do, to produce offensively,” He began. I think we are a lot to handle for other teams when we skate and play our game, and when we stick within our structure. “But we are finding our game and our legs a little bit. “Connor has enough,” laughed Draisaitl, who saw Kane bolting for the net while McDavid peeled off away from the play.

Player grades: Oilers take the hits, make the plays in hard-fought win ... (Edmonton Journal)

Predators 4, Oilers 7 Action-packed game at Rogers Place on Monday that kept the statisticians going almost as hard as the players for the whole 60 minutes.

Did his best work on the powerplay where he was personally involved in an amazing 11 Grade A shots by the Oil. The first on a nifty deke that left Juuse Saros swimming, the second a quick release from the high slot that found the corner, and the last one a breakaway into an empty net. His best game of the season if not in the NHL. Won a battle and threw a screen on the 4-1. Had less chance on the other goals, 2 of which were Sedin-style powerplay deflections from the mid-slot, the other a one-timer by Forsberg that Campbell got a tiny piece of his blocker on but was unable to direct it into or over the crossbar. The second of those was predicated by a fine defensive play by Draisaitl on Forsberg behind Edmonton’s net to win the puck, then make a fine backhand pass under pressure to Yamamoto with room to start the counterattack. Started the play on the 1-1 with a d-zone interception and quick breakout pass before joining the rush and creating the lane for Draisaitl’s pass to Kane. Solid on the powerplay in his usual “point guard” role, getting the puck to the open man time and time and time again. Oilers doninated possession when he was on the ice at even strength, while the powerplay had the puck on a string at times. Joined the battle in the trenches, delivering 4 hits and 4 shot attempts while spending the majority of his time in the good end of the ice. A little unlucky on the opening goal which pinballed off of Nurse first, then Ceci, then Campbell before settling on to the stick of Mattias Ekholm in gimme range. Some fine breakout passing, a couple of nifty moves in the o-zone, and a couple of iffy moments.

OILERS HOF: Fogolin helped build the foundation for Oilers dynasty (NHL.com)

The former Oilers defenceman and captain played a foundational role building the work ethic and character of Edmonton's dynasty.

"He played the game all in, all out, all the time, and just was a pleasure to sit beside," Coffey said. "I didn't get the opportunity to play with Lee that often on the ice, but I got the opportunity to sit beside him for six years. Of course, it missed the cart and the sweater was on the floor. "He'd come in the room and tear a strip off all of us, but he usually started with me because of where I sat. "He was such a great player, and I often tell people what you saw on the ice was the best. "Lee stood up, didn't miss a beat, grabbed the sweater, put it right side in and folded it nicely on the shopping cart. "We were young guys having a bunch of fun because we were having success on the ice, but I remember time to time he'd pull me aside and say, 'Hey, listen, it's great to have fun, but you've got to remember you've got a job to do'. "I know people in this room probably find it hard to believe, but I was a pretty good whipping boy of Glen Sather back in the day," Coffey said with sarcasm. "No matter what it was, the harder it was to do, the better it was going to turn out," Fogolin said. Then, of course, Lee stayed on a little bit longer, quite a bit longer, and did what he did." 7, 1955 when his father was a member of the Blackhawks before moving back to northern Ontario following his retirement from hockey, where his dad owned a service station and instilled within him the work ethic that he'd eventually bring to the Oilers locker room. The team needs different types of players, and Fogey took care of that part defensively."

“They didn’t push us down, or try to hold us back,” Messier said of those vets, in my book, The Battle of Alberta. Ryan Smyth on Oilers memories, keepsakes and the current team ... (The Athletic)

Smyth, an ultimate fan favourite, is being honoured this week as part of the Oilers' new hall of fame.

He’s a kid that will go to the net as hard as he can to get it done for this team. Then the game changed where there was no stickwork like that and it was a lot easier getting to the net. And then there’s [Zach Hyman](https://theathletic.com/nhl/player/zach-hyman-vPjnoIiOp9UXO7eZ/), who plays a bit like you. He felt that it was best for the organization at the time. Those were the two teams you beat in the first round in the 1990s. His hockey IQ was so strong — that was his office back there — that he had a little bit more time and space than I did. He was like Jason Smith for us, a guy that just would do anything for the team — block shots, fight if he had to or chip in offensively if he could. Early on in my career, I tried to wean away from the Gretzky side of things and do what God gifted me and had given me. (Laughs.) When I woke up this morning and saw the snow and sleet, I was like, “Here’s a reminder. I had to transition into playing well defensively to (then) getting opportunities on the power play to killing penalties. I don’t miss the cold, but I do miss the snow. That paved the way for players like myself and the generation to come.

"F*cking phenomenal": Draisaitl continues to love rambunctious ... (Daily Hive)

Edmonton Oilers sniper Leon Draisaitl still isn't shy to drop a little profanity to describe his love for the faithful at Rogers Place.

“Obviously we would’ve liked to keep the goals against down a little bit, but scored seven. The Calgary Flames sit fifth, four points back with two games at hand. “Maybe not the first couple games, not the start that we wanted or expected, but we’re finding our game and finding our legs a little bit,” Draisaitl said in a [#LetsGoOilers] [pic.twitter.com/UWuhX8JOdb] The profanity-punchline is a call-back for Draisaitl, who hasn’t been shy to show a little candidness in his fondness for the Oilers faithful. “F*cking phenomenal,” Draisaitl said in a post-game ice-level interview with Chelsea Bird about the fan support at their home barn after the Oilers celebrated a fifth-straight win by dispatching the Nashville Predators 7-4 in a wild affair.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 7, Predators 4 (NHL.com)

Evander Kane recorded the hat trick, McDavid posted four points and Draisaitl dominated with a goal and four assists in a 7-4 win over Nashville on Tuesday ...

The Captain helped set up Kane's empty-netter that sealed his fifth-career regular-season hat trick to go along with two during the post-season as a member of the Oilers. Just 26 seconds later, Connor McDavid got loose on a 2-on-1 with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and beat Saros five-hole to lift Edmonton into a two-goal lead and mark three goals in 3:37 for the Oilers. "I don't have an answer for you, or at least a good answer for you," Woodcroft commented. The German now has 20 career goals in 21 games against Nashville dating back to 2018-19 -- the most he has against any opponent. Three minutes later, Kane completed a passing play between himself and linemates Draisaitl and Kailer Yamamoto by burying a one-timer from the slot for his second of the game and a 2-1 Oilers advantage. I thought tonight we played towards our identity, and in the end, the most important thing is to put the two points in the bank and that's what we did. I think that's part of Nashville's MO is that they're an aggressive team and they finish checks. "So obviously, take it and run with it." "We had contributions from everybody up and down the lineup," Kane said. The captain had three Grade-A chances earlier in the shift as he headed into another offensive-zone faceoff that was won clean by Draisaitl. "I thought it was really good offensively," Draisaitl said. Less than 30 seconds in, Nashville was on the board.
