Is that a fish scale pattern? It is, however, unlikely that Haaland would have been involved in any case as Guardiola would surely have taken the opportunity to rotate his squad with his team in the middle of a busy run of fixtures. It’s been a season to forget for the Spanish side as a poor start to the campaign has caused them to slip into the relegation zone in La Liga, having earned just 10 points from their opening 12 games. City are unbeaten in their last 22 European home games and have won all of their Champions League games at the Etihad so far during this campaign. Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the Champions League fixture between Manchester City and Sevilla. Here are some of the City players heading to the changing room earlier this evening. Sevilla get us under way at the Etihad. A reminder that there's nothing riding on this tonight in terms of final standings in the Champions League group.
I think they are better than any team in England and some teams in the Champions League, but football is a funny game. After scoring 35 goals in their first 9 matches (which by my maths is around 4 per game), they have *only* scored 4 goals in their most recent five games; let's ...
Basically, for City to have the ball. There’s nothing concrete on the line in tonight’s match but that’s not to say it isn’t shaping up to be a cracker. The goal came after great work from Rafa Mir, who's been a first-class nuisance for the City defence and his header was well worked and much-deserved. All he has for protection is a mixture of a cardigan and a coat. City have definitely upped the tempo but Sevilla are hanging on and breaking well from time to time. City started well, trying to control possession from the first minute. And the lad looks rightly delighted. The corner is taken and it finds Bernardo Silva on the left. The pass was typical KDB gorgeousness - a flat, early cross that only Julián Álvarez was able to reach and I think the striker has silenced his critics there. Julián Álvarez was the subject of conversation in the days building up to the game given Haaland's absence and I think he definitely quietened the naysayers. So much quality and awareness here from the Argentinian. So, in the end, the solid Sevilla start wasn't enough to see them pick up points at the Etihad.
Match report as academy graduate Rico Lewis lights up the Etihad Stadium with equalising goal; Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez make the game safe after Rafa ...
In the second half with Sergio Gomez on the left and Rico Lewis on the right we felt we had more presence in the final third. The guys that want to stay here and fight for their position, they have a chance. Alvarez had been making some fine runs in behind the Sevilla centre-backs all evening but no one possessed the vision to find him until De Bruyne picked up the ball on the halfway line and spun a sensational ball in behind that he latched onto. That allowed the two City full-backs to play more as wingers rather than inverted midfielders and it was Lewis - born in 2004 - that grabbed the equaliser. It was really poor defending from City's point of view as Mir was left in three yards of space from an Isco corner to loop a header into the far corner. Alvarez then grabbed his second assist of the night when setting up Riyad Mahrez to make the game safe as City finished top of Group G.
Jack Grealish only played 45 minutes against Sevilla but Pep Guardiola was impressed with his performance.
We need him for the next game and we needed a left foot on the left," he said. [as the Blues](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/manchester-city-fc) recovered from a sluggish first period that had seen them go in 1-0 down at the break to win 3-1 and end their group stage with another win. "In the second half we were much better, Rodri's impact was good and we made a really good game in general." [Guardiola](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/pep-guardiola) said afterwards that Grealish had been the best City player in the first half and that if some of the reasons for him going off were tactical it was also down to wanting to preserve him for future games. City have not lost a Champions League game at home since 2018 and it was some of Pep Guardiola's youngsters who kept that run going against Sevilla.
His incredibly-weighted pass was judged to perfection, from just inside the Sevilla half, and played Alvarez in beyond a trailing Sevilla defender. A patient, and characteristic, slick City passing move ended with Alvarez slipping the ball to the right of the Sevilla area where Lewis arrived and finished emphatically from a wide angle. With City guaranteed top spot in this group, and Sevilla assured of a place in the Europa League, this may have been the deadest of rubbers.

Manchester City rounded off their Champions League group-stage campaign with a 3-1 win against Sevilla on Wednesday evening, although ultimately the final ...
The win was City's 23rd unbeaten home match in the Champions League, a joint record for an English side in the competition. The academy graduate grew up a City fan, and you could see how much the goal meant to him as he wheeled away in celebration. His superb ball in-behind the Sevilla defence set Alvarez up to score City's second goal of the night, and it also meant De Bruyne reached a new landmark.

Manchester City beat Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday thanks to a second-half comeback inspired by key men coming off the bench.
If this was meant to be a chance for Gomez to redeem his Copenhagen red card, he didn't take it, and it would be a surprise to see him again before the World Cup. Surely the plan will have been to use Josh Wilson-Esbrand as a replacement for Lewis, though, with a bit of a defensive reshuffle. Likewise, Sergio Gomez's disappointing night proved the need for full-back to be an area of interest in the coming transfer windows. Foden's future may lie in midfield, and he arguably played better there against Sevilla than he has done previously, however Wednesday's game highlighted the need for a quality midfield reinforcement as one of the next transfer priorities. Pep Guardiola may not have wanted to use any of those players, but they undoubtedly changed the game and proved their importance to the Blues. Rafa Mir's opener for the Spaniard's barely mustered a response from the Etihad crowd more focussed on shielding from the rain and there was no spark to ignite a flat atmosphere.
