It's the team's medical staff's job to protect Wilson from himself, and he's now out. Wilson lobbied emphatically to play, sources say, believing he's played through worse while in Seattle. So despite Wilson's public and private desire to play through it, there was virtually no chance the Broncos would let him on the field Sunday. Even wolverine blood has its limits. Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has a Grade 2 hamstring strain, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
It makes sense to give him two weeks off in order to give him four full weeks between games, with a return when the Broncos face the Titans in Tennessee. Does it make more sense for Wilson to stay in Denver and work on getting better in lieu of traveling from Colorado to London and back again? Next week, the Broncos face the Jaguars in London, followed by a bye.

The Broncos have scored just three touchdowns on 15 trips to the red zone. Denver has the last-ranked scoring offense in the NFL at 15.2 points per game. Rypien led the Broncos to the 37-28 win against New York. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett has said Wilson is a game-time decision, but the Broncos have decided to have him rest this week and are rolling with Rypien. "We're [having] a very open dialogue and making sure we put someone out there that's healthy and can go out there and play at a high level," Hackett said Thursday. Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson could miss multiple games with a hamstring injury that sounds significant.
Wilson has just five touchdowns compared to three interceptions and a passer rating of 83.4, which would be the lowest mark of his career. Given the way their schedule falls, it would be a surprise if we see Wilson back on the field before Week 10. The injury, which is classified as a Grade 2 hamstring strain, typically requires multiple weeks of rest and rehab because of the risk of additional damage.
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has a partially torn hamstring and could be sidelined beyond Sunday's game against the New York Jets, NFL Net.
The Broncos are scheduled to play the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday in London and then have a bye in Week 9, so Denver could be targeting a return for Wilson on Nov. Wilson, 33, injured his hamstring in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The report said a partial tear usually causes a player to miss multiple weeks.
The Denver Broncos are on the verge of their second potential quarterback nightmare of the 2022 season. The first quarterback nightmare, of course, ...
And this is not just a case of a quarterback zinging the ball to schemed-open targets — Hackett’s offense doesn’t really do that in any obvious fashion. This is not to insinuate that Brett Rypien is a better quarterback than Russell Wilson — from a traits perspective, that’s obviously not the case. Hackett has wanted Wilson to be more of a pocket passer — that’s clear from the tape — and that’s never been Wilson’s game. And that’s Denver’s second quarterback nightmare if it happens — especially beyond the Jets game, if Wilson is unable to return for the Broncos’ Week 8 game against the Jaguars. That would seem to be yet another recipe for disaster, but between how badly things have gone for Wilson so far, and what I saw from Rypien in the 2022 preseason, I’m wondering if Rypien has a better chance to succeed in Hackett’s offense than Wilson has. The first quarterback nightmare, of course, are the early results of the trade in which Denver sent multiple players and high picks to the Seahawks for one Russell Carrington Wilson.
