Apple announces new iPad Pros, redesigned regular iPad and ... (CNBC)

Apple announced new versions of its iPad Pro, a redesigned 10th-generation iPad and an updated Apple TV 4K on Tuesday.

The new iPad doesn't work with the better second-generation Apple Pencil, which charges on the side of the iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro. The screen can now detect the tip of the Pencil up to 12 mm above the surface of the screen. Apple said it's up to 15% faster than the M1 processor used in the The remote used to use Apple's proprietary Lightning connector. Apple will sell different configurations, including Wi-Fi only and WiFi + 5G cellular, but it starts at $449, which is a bump from the $329 starting price of the ninth-generation iPad. The launches give Apple more new gadgets to sell ahead of the important holiday shopping season. The home button at the bottom of the screen is gone and has been replaced with a fingerprint reader in the power button. The Apple Pencil works a bit differently on the new iPad Pros, too. The streaming box adds support for HDR10+, another high-dynamic range standard that, if offered by the TV it's connected to, should help improve picture quality, especially in dark scenes. It's available to order Tuesday and will be in stores beginning Oct. But there's something strange about the Apple Pencil support. And they join Apple's latest iPhone 14, two new Apple Watches and brand-new AirPods Pro.

Apple Reveals iPad Pro 2022: Faster, With Striking Upgrades But 2 ... (Forbes)

The new iPad Pro comes in two sizes, with 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays, as now.

The new iPad Pro goes on sale on Wednesday, October 26, with pre-orders open now. When you hover your Apple Pencil above the iPad Pro, it will be detected, and show a preview of where your stylus is going to touch the screen. There’s a new feature coming to the existing second-generation Apple Pencil. Most importantly, the processor has been updated from the already blazing-fast M1 chip to the new M2. This means that most of us can have a cool experience, but the most demanding users will really benefit, so they can work with big photo libraries or manipulate 3D objects onscreen. Many previous rumors suggested that the 11-inch model iPad Pro would be upgraded to have the miniLED backlighting, called Liquid Retina XDR introduced on the iPad Pro 12.9-inch.

The new iPad requires a $9 dongle if you want to use the Apple Pencil (CNBC)

But since Apple made the move from a Lightning port to USB-C, you can't just stick the Apple Pencil into the iPad's charging port to juice it up. (That itself ...

You'll plug the Apple Pencil into that dongle, and then plug the dongle into the iPad. That's the only way to pair the Pencil with the new iPad, too. But there's one thing that's just a little silly about it: The $99 optional Apple Pencil requires a dongle to charge and pair with the new iPad. Still, it meant anyone who didn't already have a $19 charger brick had to buy one, and it likely helped spur people to buy $19 EarPods or $129 AirPods. That's not a big deal in itself, as much as I'd like to see added support for the more comfortable Apple Pencil 2, which charges on the side of those aforementioned iPads. (That itself was always a little weird, but it worked.) Instead, you have to buy one of

New iPad Pro says 'iPad Pro' on the back (Mashable)

The new iPad Pro models have a tiny but notable design change: Instead of having a sign that says "iPad" on the back, it now says "iPad Pro."

The 11-inch model starts at $799, and the 12.9-inch model starts at $1,099. Of course, if you want to personalize your iPad Pro, Apple lets you an add an engraving for free, which will be etched near the top of the device. Granted, it's still a very small sign, down near the bottom at the back of the device, but everyone who looks closely will now know what a cool cat you are.

Both tablets integrate a multi-touch display, meaning that you can use your fingers to interact with the screen. The fact this chip appears in dedicated laptops means that it’s more powerful than the A14, and suggests the iPad Air should have better overall performance. This chip also features in the [iPhone 12](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/iphone-12) and it’s built on a 5nm process. Apple's baseline iPad is getting a big upgrade this year for its 10th generation. The 2022 iPad has a new design, a bigger screen, a faster chip, ...

As for other accessories, the 2022 iPad works with the first-generation Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard Folio. Powering the new iPad is Apple’s A14 Bionic chip, a step up over last year’s model. That way you can have more natural video calls while the device is horizontal, as it usually is when watching a video or making video calls. The 2022 iPad has a new design, a bigger screen, a faster chip, and bold new color options. The Touch ID sensor is now located in the power button on the side of the device. The new iPad looks quite different from the previous baseline iPads — its design is more in line with the iPad Air.

iPad pricing brings even more pain to European buyers [U: AirTags ... (9to5Mac)

Apple has also substantially increased the sterling and euro prices of the iPad mini, meaning it's now more expensive than the iPad 10 … Entry-level iPad ...

Apple also has to hedge somewhat against a trend that is going in entirely the wrong direction for European customers. With the latest model, Apple has updated the design of the device to bring it into line with the iPad Pro models. Please let us know in the comments. That’s why an apparent $129 difference between US and UK pricing of the iPhone 14 As with iPhone 14 pricing, the price rises likely reflect the strong dollar – meaning that both the pound and euro are worth a lot less than they were a year ago. But things are even worse for European buyers, with a £499 starting price in the UK, and euro pricing starting at €579 or €589, depending on the country.

iPad line-up: Something for everyone, or a confusing mess? (9to5Mac)

iPad 9: $329 · iPad 10: $449 · iPad mini: $499 · iPad Air: $599 · 11-inch iPad Pro: $799 · 12.9-inch iPad Pro: $1,099.

There’s no equivalent of the iPhone 14 Plus in the iPad line-up, so if all you want is a bigger screen, you’re going to have to pay for all the Pro features to get it. From a consumer perspective, and iPad 10 Plus would be a great option, but the fact is that enough people are willing to pay the Pro premium for the size, so that’s all money in Apple’s pocket. Compact size is the only benefit, but if you want a small iPad, you want a small iPad. Is is worth almost twice as much as the iPad 9 we were looking at in the first place? If I were going to remove one model from the line-up, this would be it. If you need one or more Pro features and/or want a large screen (and can afford it!), buy the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. If you just want an iPad for everyday needs, are happy with a small screen, and don’t have a specific need for any of the Pro features, buy the base model (but with more storage). But if you’re going to spend $n more, then for just $n+ you could move up to the next model and … The display is better (P3 rather than sRGB), and you also get anti-reflective coating, which is a small thing that can make a big difference. It’s just a pretty big price jump for the prettier screen and some spec improvements that probably don’t much matter to an entry-level iPad buyer. With the latest changes, what is Apple’s iPad line-up now? You start by looking at the base model of something, then tell yourself that for just $n more, you could have features X, Y, and Z.
