Sean Monahan found Dach and the centre scored his first goal as a Hab to ice the game. Defenceman Jeff Petry played his first game at the Bell Centre in a Penguins uniform. The Canadiens will play their second game of a four-game home stand on Thursday as they host the Arizona Coyotes. Goaltender Jake Allen missed the game as he was on parental leave with his wife due to give birth. Louis chose wisely as Jonathan Drouin found Caufield with a cross-ice pass and the sniper levelled the score with a one-timer. The Canadiens cut their deficit to one early in the third period. Malkin recorded his second goal of the game four minutes later. Jeff Petry played his first game back at the Bell Centre. After a scoreless first period, the visitors finally found net. Kirby Dach scored the game-winning goal at 3:09 on the power play. Suzuki and Cole Caufield levelled the score and forced overtime. It's important to win at home and we want to put on a good show for our fans, so to win games, and to win games like that, it's pretty fun.''

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens mount comeback, defeat ... (Globalnews.ca)

The Montreal Canadiens took on the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice at the Bell Centre on Monday.

The crest is bigger than the name on the back of the sweater in Montreal. It has been a long tradition in the history of sports to boo players on the other team. After the video montage on the scoreboard of Petry’s best moments in Montreal, there were only cheers. Koivu was a legend in Montreal, battling cancer and returning to the lineup. On Monday night, Jeff Petry was booed despite putting in his best seasons in Montreal and helping the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup finals only two years ago. The Corsi analytics agreed with Montreal having a large advantage in the contest. The Habs were the better team for most of the night, and justice was finally served with a comeback 3-2 win. Also improving significantly because of the new lines was Mike Hoffman who didn’t seem to even get a single good look in the first three games. In this contest, the spotlight was put with Christian Dvorak and Brendan Gallagher. Suzuki finally got the Canadiens on the board with an outstanding rush into the attacking zone and shot. However, on the road, their two contests were a struggle. In both Detroit and Washington, the Canadiens had difficulty generating any offence at all in two losses.

Dach scores in overtime as Canadiens rally to beat Penguins (Montreal Gazette)

Montreal 3, Pittsburgh 2 (OT). Caufield's goal with 2:20 left in regulation turns fortunes around.

The Penguins thought they had a 1-0 lead at 1:52 of the opening period when the red light went on behind Montembeault after a shot by Jeff Carter. After being outshot 11-6 in the first period, the Pittsburgh offence came to life in a fast-paced second period. Cole Caufield sent the game into overtime when he took a sharp pass from Jonathan Drouin and scored from the left faceoff circle with 2:20 to play.

Penguins Blow 2-Goal Lead, Lose in OT to Canadiens 3-2 (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

Pittsburgh Penguins (2-0-1) winger Danton Heinen's shot hit the post and crossbar behind Montreal Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault early in the first period.

[ The Penguins’ power play was a weak 0-for-3. Penguins winger Jason Zucker escaped injury in the third period. He didn’t have a shot on goal in the first two periods. DeSmith stopped all 20 even-strength Canadiens’ scoring chances in the first 40 minutes. Malkin and DeSmith were the Penguins’ stories. Defenseman P.O Joseph, playing his first game in Montreal, had an assist on Malkin’s second goal, and Rust had a pair of apples. DeSmith stopped Suzuki’s first shot, but the save dribbled behind DeSmith. “I didn’t even see the pass. “I didn’t (see Caufield) either. However, Montreal tied the game with just over two minutes remaining when Cole Caufield was uncovered in the left-wing circle. Montreal looked like a team much better than one expected to be a high lottery pick.
