Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens mount comeback, defeat ... (Globalnews.ca)

The Montreal Canadiens took on the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice at the Bell Centre on Monday.

The crest is bigger than the name on the back of the sweater in Montreal. It has been a long tradition in the history of sports to boo players on the other team. After the video montage on the scoreboard of Petry’s best moments in Montreal, there were only cheers. Koivu was a legend in Montreal, battling cancer and returning to the lineup. On Monday night, Jeff Petry was booed despite putting in his best seasons in Montreal and helping the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup finals only two years ago. The Corsi analytics agreed with Montreal having a large advantage in the contest. The Habs were the better team for most of the night, and justice was finally served with a comeback 3-2 win. Also improving significantly because of the new lines was Mike Hoffman who didn’t seem to even get a single good look in the first three games. In this contest, the spotlight was put with Christian Dvorak and Brendan Gallagher. Suzuki finally got the Canadiens on the board with an outstanding rush into the attacking zone and shot. However, on the road, their two contests were a struggle. In both Detroit and Washington, the Canadiens had difficulty generating any offence at all in two losses.

Cole Caufield sent the game into overtime when he took a sharp pass from Jonathan Drouin and scored from the left faceoff circle with 2:20 to play.

Mature Guhle dominant in Canadiens' win over Crosby, Penguins (Sportsnet.ca)

It's hard to believe Kaiden Guhle is just 20 years old. The Montreal Canadiens defencemen is playing with plenty of poise against the top stars in hockey.

He plays the game, and it’s apparent in the way he comports himself.” “He plays the game,” St. “That pass to Nick was incredible,” he said. “He has a very high ceiling, but his floor and his foundation are already so set that he’ll hit his big ceiling.” “It’s a fast game, didn’t have time to go to the forehand. He spotted Suzuki flashing through the neutral zone and ripped a cross-ice backhand right to his stick. He was flying, so I was just trying to put it in an area for him and it just happened to be on his tape and he made a great play and scored. It wasn’t long after the puck dropped on this game that Guhle made it clear he was anything but overwhelmed. Welcome to the NHL.” But yeah, it’s a fast game and you gotta make plays on your backhand sometimes.” Guhle had just spent a few minutes answering questions about his upcoming first game against Sidney Crosby. Nick Suzuki had a goal and an assist for Montreal.

Bottom Six Minutes: Kirby Dach is just getting started (Habs Eyes on the Prize)

Scoring your first Habs goal in overtime at the Bell Centre is a heck of a way to silence the critics.

We have a few days off this week, but will return following an early edition of the basement bowl against the If Dach keeps playing the way he has, the points will keep coming, and that trade may be looked back on as a key moment in the rebuilding of the Montreal Canadiens. He’s just getting started with this club, and he looks to still have a lot of the potential that made him a third-overall pick. This wasn’t dumb luck either, this was a reward that has eluded him in his excellent play through the previous four games of regulation play. Brunet said that he’s disappointed in Dach, and opined that he hasn’t been involved enough. Kirby Dach scored his first goal in the Tricolore during the extra frame, capping off the comeback and earning a second win on the season for his team in the process.
