The Winnipeg Jets open the 2022-23 regular season tonight against the New York Rangers.
We have to learn to trust our players, and we have to learn to show confidence in them." "I think we feel we've really put in a great set of work here in training camp," Morrissey said. It's what we've worked hard for all summer and through training camp." "It's what we all work for. You keep your feet moving and you try to disrupt their attack. "We have three lines that can go head-to-head with anybody, and we have to trust them," said Bowness. Being able to rely on very line at both ends of the rink also helps Bowness when it comes to line matching. You work just as hard offensively as you do defensively, if not harder defensively," said Ehlers. Now it's time for the Winnipeg Jets to test their new systems with valuable points in the standings on the line. "New York is a great team. "You've had enough meetings, you've had enough practices. The Rangers (2-0-0) are known for their speed.
Tony Sartori breaks down Friday's NHL game between the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets.
While Winnipeg boasts some talent in the top six of their forward group, their depth should be a major concern. However, Halak should be good enough considering the defense in front of him. In fact, there have been five or fewer goals scored in six of the past nine meetings between these clubs. Bowness’ defensive-orientated systems led to a lot of low-scoring games as the O/U went 34-44 for Dallas last year. Additionally, we could see some quick shifts and a slower pace of play as the Rangers are on the second half of a back-to-back and playing their third game in four nights. Last season, the Rangers were one of the better under bets in hockey (32-47). For the year, he went 29-27-10 with a .910 SV% and 2.97 GAA. Since New York is in that situation, we can expect to see backup goaltender Jaroslav Halak take the crease. Rick Bowness, who came over from Dallas during the offseason, is looking to change the identity of this team. Their top-four defensemen — Adam Fox, Ryan Lindgren, Jacob Trouba and K’Andre Miller — make up one of the best defensive units in the league. New York won each of the two meetings between these clubs last year. However, the offense was much more troubling last season.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- — Mark Scheifele scored twice and the Winnipeg Jets beat the New York Rangers 4-1 Friday night to win their season opener.
[Connor Hellebuyck](http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3020225/connor-hellebuyck) stopped 40 shots. Ehlers raced behind New York’s net, got the puck and sent a backhand pass up to Scheifele in the circle and he beat Halak at 10:29 of the first period. Panarin now has a goal and five assists through three games. Trouba, who played 408 games with the Jets before being traded to the Rangers in June 2019, was booed early in the game by some fans when he had the puck. Associate coach Scott Arneil ran the bench in Bowness’ place. [Sam Gagner](http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3808/sam-gagner) also scored and [Kyle Connor](http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3899952/kyle-connor) added an empty-netter for the Jets. “It’s two pretty good players so I just tried to get open,” Hunt said of his teammates. New York was playing its third game of the season, and the second half of a back-to-back after a 7-3 win at Minnesota on Thursday.' “It doesn’t really bug me, I guess. “We were not great in the first,” Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said. ... We created a lot of chances, but we just gave up way too much.” "This team played the right way,” Hellebuyck said.
The Winnipeg Jets start the 2022-2023 regular season tonight at the Canada Life Centre as they face off against the New York Rangers. Here's our preview.
The Jets will look for a much better showing against their Metropolitan opponents. Barron is expected to be in the lineup for the Jets tonight. Trouba now returns to Winnipeg as Captain of the Rangers. In the most recent trade between these sides, the Jets received Morgan Barron and three draft picks for Andrew Copp. Tonight is also the second game of a back-to-back for the Rangers. The 2022-2023 regular season is finally here for the Winnipeg Jets!
The surging New York Rangers will look to build off their perfect start to the year as they square off with the Winnipeg Jets who will be making their ...
As much as the Jets want to win this one my multiple goals for their first-year coach, the Rangers will be shaking no rust off after already playing three games under their belts. With that being said, this is a Winnipeg squad that is not used to at least clinching a berth as a playoff team, so expect the Jets to come out with their hair on fire later this evening to get the season started off on the right foot. Without a doubt, these are the hottest skaters on the ice for the Rangers at the moment and the two of them should give New York a great chance to cover the spread out on the road. To begin, the Jets will have a new face leading them out onto the ice as former head coach Paul Maurice decided to resign back in December and replacement Dave Lowry failed to take charge of the position after the Jets stumbled across the finish line a year ago. For starters, the Rangers have a great chance to cover the spread because of the stellar start to the campaign by left-winger Artemi Panarin, who is coming off of an explosive four-point performance. After compiling a winning record of 39-32-11 during the 2021-2022 season, the Jets still finished in 11th place and missed out on their goal of reaching the postseason.
The Rangers won their first road game of the season in Minnesota last night, and they'll look to win their second 24 hours later after crossing into Canada ...
Kreider has also found success against Winnipeg as of late, scoring four goals over his last four games against them dating back to the 2019-20 season. The Jets are a team going through a bit of a transitional phase as of now. Kreider failed to find the back of the net on opening night, but was able to score a pair of goals against the Wild last night.
The best forwards of the night to me, however, were Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, Vincent Trocheck, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider. Especially early those ...
It ended up in three goals the final five minutes (one in an empty net) and the Rangers’ first loss of the year. The Rangers had some incredibly juicy looks with the man advantage they just couldn’t get to go over the line. One one hand I would love to tell you the Rangers deserved better (and they probably did) but on the other the final 10 minutes of that game looked a lot like the final two games in the playoffs this year. - I would love to know why the NHL — in their infinite wisdom — elected to have the Rangers open their season at home on a Tuesday, then play back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday, including the first game of the year to the Jets. - The best forwards of the night to me, however, were Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, Vincent Trocheck, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider. A few instances where there was just a slew of overpassing opportunities, guys not able to get by their man when they finally did get the puck, and even more defensive zone shifts that were dominated by the Rangers standing and watching before the go-ahead goal.
In this edition of Jets Weekly, we take a look at Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele and a win over the New York Rangers.
The organization will look to build off of a strong performance in Game 1, and get Bowness back into the swing of things once he returns from his illness. Lowry centred a third-line that was tasked with shutting down Artemi Panarin’s line throughout the game, and they succeeded in holding him off of the scoresheet. Heinola, Declan Chisholm, and Leon Gawanke are re-forming one of the best blue lines in the AHL from a year ago, minus Jonathan Kovacevic, who was claimed off of waivers by the Montreal Canadiens. They will embark on a three-game road trip to face the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Vegas Golden Knights, before returning home next Saturday to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. That will have to get much closer to average if the Moose want to contend for the Calder Cup this season. The Moose are returning an extremely talented roster, given the cuts that were made by the Jets in training camp. He’s been watching hockey ever since the Jets moved back to Winnipeg in 2011, and that has inspired him to write about the sport and attempt to make it into a full-time career. Dylan Samberg, [Kyle Capobianco](https://thehockeywriters.com/docs/kyle-capobianco/), and Axel Jonsson-Fjällby, who was claimed off of waivers by the Jets, were the healthy scratches. Sam Gagner finished off the game-winning goal in his debut with the team alongside Saku Maenalanen and David Gustafsson on a fourth line that was extremely impressive. Scheifele led by example with two goals on Friday night and led a top line that dominated the Rangers’ top-six. The former Vezina-winning goaltender saved 40 of the 41 shots that he faced, good for a .976 save percentage (SV%) on the night. The Jets’ bottom six is a major question mark going into the 2022-23 season, but they started on the right foot on Friday.
