The Detroit Red Wings open the 2022-23 season at Little Caesars Arena with a visit from the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022.
(The Habs made history in another way Wednesday night: Defenseman Arber Xhekaj — pronounced “Jack-Eye” — became the first NHL player whose last name begins with “X.”) The Wings won’t have much time to rest after their opener, heading right to Newark to face the New Jersey Devils and then coming hope to face the L.A. Game notes: The Canadiens have had a weird past couple of seasons, riding Carey Price to the Stanley Cup Finals in the NHL’s Toronto/Edmonton bubble in 2020, then falling all the way to the league’s worst record — and a win in the draft lottery — in 2021 without Price in net. Jonny Lazarus breaks down Friday's NHL game between the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings.
I think the Red Wings might be a little overvalued for their first game and I really think Montreal can pull off the upset. They made a ton of changes to their room and it might take some time for the chemistry to really gel. There is a lot of buzz around this team and it seems as though they can finally make a push to get back into the playoffs. I think this could be a case where they hold an edge having already played an intense game compared to Detroit, which hasn’t gotten that experience yet. That being said, the four guys that should pick up right where they left off are Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Moritz Seider, and Lucas Raymond. Montreal is able to make adjustments from game one to game two. I wouldn’t consider the Habs to be a playoff team, but they can definitely compete with everyone. They have some high expectations going into this season after a strong offseason and they have their eyes set on making the playoffs. Jake Allen had a solid showing in his first start as he made 29 saves on 32 shots and skated to a .906 SV%. They made some great additions this offseason like David Perron, Andrew Copp, Oskar Sundqvist, Ben Chiarot, and Ville Husso. The Habs were not expected to be very good this season, but head coach Martin St. Louis seems like he has his group locked in to prove their doubters wrong.
The Habs were in Detroit and it was more like the expectations that the hockey world had for Montreal as they were dominated, losing 3-0.
He was injured in the first period and missed about a period of action, but still was the dominant force of the game for Montreal. Kirby Dach looked like he has a high ceiling in his first game, and Sean Monahan’s ceiling is all about his health which looked to be not an issue at all against Toronto. That would give the club a top-five draft pick historically. The Canadiens have a player who will excel for the next decade. One of the pieces towards having a bona fide winner is in place. He also led the club in ice time with 22 minutes against a high-powered club. General Manager Kent Hughes stressed he didn’t want to go into the season with three rookies on defence. That was appropriate because it was a Carey Price kind of performance. He already seems like a top-four defender in his first two games. The story of the game was Jake Allen. Montreal surprised with their maturity and their talent, but how would they do in game two on the road? It was a Carey Price kind of save.
The seeds of Montreal's first loss of the season were sown a day before they even stepped on the ice at Little Caesar's Arena, planted in the office new ...
“It’s not always going to be the way you think it’s going to be. Others will test their patience — and their willingness to generate offence the hard way — which is something they have to know after how this game went for them in Detroit. “Statistically, a good rush team, they get offence off the rush, they produce off the rush, and if you’re going to give them the rush, it’s going to be a long night. The easy break-in with the puck wasn’t available to them in this game. “They’re the third-best team on the rush since Marty took over, so we just have to wait and shut it down.” They survived that pressure, despite leaving Allen to tie the franchise record he set himself last March for most saves in a period and not finding ways to “keep that puck going and beat two guys with one play,” as St.

The Sharks are hoping to get their first win of the season after losing two games to the Nashville Predators at the 2022 NHL Global Series in Prague. The game marks the Jets debut for coach Rick Bowness, who was hired July 3, and the start of what could be a Calder Trophy campaign for rookie forward Cole Perfetti, who scored seven points (two goals, five assists) last season in his first 18 games in the NHL. The Canadiens, who won their opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, play the first game of a back-to-back, with a game at the Washington Capitals on Saturday. "It will be fun to see The Tank because The Tank will be rocking," he said of his return to San Jose, where he won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman in 2016-17. ET; TSN3, MSGSN, ESPN+, SN NOW) on a back-to-back won't be easy, I'm eager to see what the Rangers - and Panarin - can do next. Forward Artemi Panarin had a goal and three assists for his 16th career four-point game, helping New York score seven goals during their first road game of the season for the third time in their history and first time since 1973.

We played a complete game tonight." "I liked the way we played. Rasmussen and Sundqvist were each credited with an assist on the goal. "It's nice to get a win right away. The rebound went to Soderblom in the slot, who fired it into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner. The Red Wings played an aggressive first period, outshooting the Canadiens 25-10, but the game was scoreless through 40 minutes.
