1 major thing for the Chicago Bears to accomplish on Thursday (Da Windy City)

The Chicago Bears have a big game on Thursday night against the Washington Commanders. They have one thing that they need to accomplish.

Now, with the Bears, he seems rejuvenated and excited to be there. The first half was a complete dud for Fields but the halftime adjustments were good enough to make him look like a completely different quarterback. Honestly, it is a shame that the Bears are once again seen as a team that can’t be fun.

2022 NFL season, Week 6: What We Learned from Commanders ... (NFL.com)

Carson Wentz, Brian Robinson and the Commanders edged Justin Fields and the Bears, 12-7, on Thursday night.

But no one can say with a straight face that this is the offensive formula the team wanted before the season, not with the receivers they have and with the price the Commanders paid to land Wentz, who was 12-of-20 passing for 99 yards in the win. With the run game working fairly well, it made sense to lean on it and sprinkle in a few high-percentage passes when the game tilted Washington’s way. He was hit 12 times in the pocket, with five resulting in sacks, and that doesn’t count the number of times he was hit on 12 rushing attempts. McKissic](https://www.nfl.com/players/j-d-mckissic/), plus a surprise cameo from [Antonio Gibson](https://www.nfl.com/players/antonio-gibson-2/)-- who had four carries for 32 yards (all in the third quarter) -- and Washington grinded its way to a short-week road win. The next best number of wins without a loss is 2-0. But his overall refinement as a QB needs a lot of work; the execution on Chicago’s penultimate drive is good evidence of that. [Darnell Mooney](https://www.nfl.com/players/darnell-mooney/)’s fourth-down catch ruled down at the Washington 1-yard line. On the next Bears series, they drove to the 1, and Fields’ overthrow to a wide-open Ryan Griffin on second and goal was far more egregious an error than [Khalil Herbert](https://www.nfl.com/players/khalil-herbert/)getting stuffed at the goal line on fourth down. But he also misfired on throws and was at least partially guilty of once again holding on to the ball too long. Throw in a few nice runs each from [Terry McLaurin](https://www.nfl.com/players/carson-wentz/)and [J.D. On Thursday, the Bears matched the Giants' game's inefficiency, with the game ending on [Brian Robinson Jr.](https://www.nfl.com/players/brian-robinson-x2673/)clearly earned the Commanders’ coaches’ trust for more work Thursday night.

Washington Commanders survive late Chicago Bears charge in win (ESPN)

Brian Robinson scored the go-ahead touchdown as the Washington Commanders beat the Chicago Bears 12-7 on a windy Thursday night in Chicago.

Guards [Lucas Patrick](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2576736/lucas-patrick) (concussion) and [Teven Jenkins](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4038457/teven-jenkins) (shoulder) both left the game briefly in the third quarter, which led to a shuffle up front that brought [Michael Schofield III](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/16741/michael-schofield) off the bench before the two returned. [Efe Obada](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3734467/efe-obada), which was recovered by his teammate [Jonathan Allen](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3054840/jonathan-allen). [Dante Pettis](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3127306/dante-pettis) will return punts against the Patriots. [Darnell Mooney](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4040655/darnell-mooney), who caught the ball around a Washington defender, but bobbled it. [New England Patriots](/nfl/team/_/name/ne/new-england-patriots) in Foxborough. [Velus Jones Jr](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4035693/velus-jones-jr)., fumbled the punt and rookie [Christian Holmes](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4035105/christian-holmes) recovered the ball on the 6-yard line. Sweat recorded a sack and harassed [Justin Fields](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4362887/justin-fields) on numerous occasions. [Montez Sweat](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3134690/montez-sweat) was held without a sack for the first four games of the season. Fields had tight end [Ryan Griffin](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/15887/ryan-griffin) wide open in the end zone and sailed a ball past him on second-and-3 at the 3-yard line. But a fumble on a punt return that allowed Washington to recover the ball at the Chicago 6-yard line and score two plays later -- after a muffed punt against the Giants with two minutes to play squashed any realistic chance of a comeback -- will force the Bears to reconsider who they have deep on punt return. [Washington Commanders](/nfl/team/_/name/was/washington-commanders) The Bears are the second team this season to top 390 yards of offense and score less than 10 points in a game.

Bears fall to Commanders in low-scoring affair | Game Recap (ChicagoBears.com)

The Bears couldn't overcome a multitude of mistakes Thursday night, including a pair of costly turnovers and no points on three red-zone possessions, ...

After a pair of incomplete passes, the Bears elected to go for it on fourth-and-11, but a delay of game penalty made it fourth-and-16. On second-and-9, Fields snapped the ball quickly to catch the Commanders with 12 men on the field, then delivered a perfect deep ball to Pettis in the back of the end zone. On the Bears following drive, an illegal use of hands penalty on cornerback Benjamin St-Juste sustained the possession after Fields was sacked on third-and-5. After the Bears defense forced a three-and-out, Jones muffed the ensuing punt and Washington recovered the fumble at Chicago's 6-yard line. The following Bears' possession resulted in a turnover on downs after Fields overthrew tight end [Ryan Griffin](/team/players-roster/ryan-griffin/) in the end zone on third-and-goal from the 1 and running back Khalil Herbert was stopped short on fourth-and-goal. Running back Antonio Gibson accounted for 43 of the 65 yards on the 13-play drive. [Velus Jones Jr.](/team/players-roster/velus-jones/) muffed a punt at the Bears' 6. After the Bears got the ball back at their own 30, Herbert evaded defenders and broke free for a 64-yard run to reach the Washington 6. [Justin Fields](/team/players-roster/justin-fields/) scrambled 39 yards down the left side of the field to reach Washington's 5. On third-and-goal from the 10, tackle The game's first score didn't come until 46 seconds before halftime when Slye made a 38-yard field goal to put the Commanders up 3-0. While the Bears didn't score until the third quarter, they had two red-zone opportunities in the first half.

Chicago Bears fall inches short of a Thursday night victory (Da Windy City)

The Chicago Bears fell just short of a huge Thursday night victory as they were defeated by the Washington Commanders in front of America.

There was one big problem in the game and that was the fact that Fields was on his back a lot. It is also nice that the defense only allowed 12 points. It was a free play because of the 12 men on the field penalty that the Commanders were taking and Fields didn’t miss on it. They got to the red zone but failed to convert on fourth and goal. It is strange that their defense only allowed 12 to a bad Commanders team and they still lost. They had lots of offensive production in the game but it only led to one touchdown as they were defeated by a

Why Bears QB Justin Fields Does - And Doesn't - Make Sense for ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Atlanta Falcons were left watching Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields from afar during Thursday Night Football, with many fans pondering what ...

Quarterbacks are often the most talked about position, and the Falcons opted to make Pitts the highest-drafted tight end in league history rather than selecting Fields. In Atlanta, he'd have Pitts, 2022 first-round pick Drake London, running back Cordarrelle Patterson and one of the NFL's most improved offensive lines. The biggest factor working in favor is that Fields fits what Smith wants in a quarterback, as mentioned above. The biggest roadblock to the scenario is exactly that - the odds that Chicago would be willing to part with Fields are extremely low. There's also the integral element of Chicago's regime - Fields wasn't drafted by Bears coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles. Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith will lead his team into a Week 6 contest against the San Francisco 49ers, winners of three of their last four. Fields is working with first-year offensive coordinator Luke Getsy who, entering Week 6, had the offense attempting the fewest passes league-wide since 1982. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft, with a brand-new regime spearheaded by coach Arthur Smith and general manager Terry Fontenot poised to make their first selection in power. Franchise signal callers are difficult to come by, and Fields more than has the potential to be exactly that. However, the Bears have a legitimate talent on their hands, and with the ever-growing importance of the quarterback position, seem set to keep Fields in the mix for the long haul. What to know about the Chicago Bears' Thursday opponent (Da Windy City)

The Chicago Bears have a game against the Washington Commanders. There are a few things to know about that team right now.

This is a 1-4 Commanders team that hasn’t found a stride yet this season and we don’t know if they will. It starts with the head coach that Chicago Bears fans know well, Ron Rivera. Now, after a quick stop with the Indianapolis Colts, he has made his way to Washington where he is trying to regain that magic. They have to worry about what makes them succeed on the field. After all, if they do get “there,” it isn’t exactly a rebuild anymore, is it? After a 2-1 start to the season, Chicago has lost three straight games and is staring at a 2-4 record. Fields is in a pivotal second season, where he has no help along the offensive line or at wide receiver. Me personally, I’m tired of being almost there.” Live and you learn, and get back to next week and keep going, keep getting better.” And the frustration is wearing on Fields, who’s becoming impatient for these hard-fought performances to turn into wins. Tired of being just this close. “Everybody is feeling this way. It’s no secret that the Chicago Bears are in the midst of a rebuild.

The 428 yards is a great stat to build on but they need more points. It’s not star-level stuff yet but it is a big step in the right direction. Fields also had 88 yards using his legs so it was a very productive game for him on the ground. They had some near misses in the endzone as well but that doesn’t help you win games. One of the biggest pros is that Justin Fields is starting to take some steps. Despite it only leading to seven points, they had 428 total yards on offense.
