[Time for some Jets games that mean something](https://globalnews.ca/news/9183797/winnipeg-jets-pre-season-games/). Sun sports reporter Ted Wyman and Sun Winnipeg Jets beat writer Scott Billeck discuss the team as it stands heading into the final preseason game, key position battles on forward and defence, and what the opening night roster might look like in a week’s time in the latest edition of Jets Setting. He’s got the Jets in the 18th spot to start the season. The Jets held a morning skate followed by a media availability before they take on Calgary. I do agree with John’s points however that pre-season games (when one team usually sends an AHL club to battle an NHL one) are a waste of time. After the game, be sure to check out

"If you're on an island and you stand up on a guy, even if you get a piece of him, guys are good players in this league and they can either get through, make the next play, or hit the second wave. "There is a little extra pressure on us to make sure the guys have a good time," Morrissey grinned. "The reads and the system are starting to become a lot easier. I think I've showed it with the Moose and I think I can show it up here. Winnipeg is 3-1-1 through the first five games of their six preseason contests. "When you can have opportunities to spend time together as a group, get to know each other better. It felt better for sure and hopefully we can feel a little better tonight and peak for next Friday." "We have to see who can handle that and who can't." Gustafsson may be under-selling when he says the Jets had a "good game" on Wednesday. "We're gearing up for the most intense game of the preseason too," said forward David Gustafsson. "We've had a couple weeks of practice now and the pace has been good. You can't make up for game reps, so it was nice to get two in right at the end of preseason here," said Josh Morrissey, playing in his third preseason game tonight.
For these past few weeks, the Jets and the 31 other teams have been practicing and playing games that for the most part have been played to fill two, ...
Camp should be for coaches to implement systems and build team loyalty, not play inconsequential games in half-empty buildings. The NHL and its member clubs need to look at training camp and pre-season games. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that the NHL is back and we will soon be immersed in more than 1,200 regular season hockey games — hockey games that mean something, that have some relevance.

Now, like any other young player, he’s got to learn to play without the puck and learn how to play at a higher pace against the professionals. In his three pre-season games, the Finnish winger provided glimpses of his enormous potential, flashing a skillset that definitely translates, thanks in part to his blazing speed and finishing ability. “He clearly is going to play in the league at some point. If they take a run at one of us, they take a run at all of us. You take a run at one of us, you take a run at all of us. As long as you’re in there in numbers and getting in the mix. It’s exciting for our team that we have guys that are developing and can help the team immediately. “You don’t have to go in there and start brawling everybody. We have a lot of guys that maybe won’t be in on opening night that can contribute,” said DeMelo, who had two assists and is set to open the campaign on the top pairing with Josh Morrissey. Even up front, a lot of guys are playing hard and doing a lot of good things. A little sloppy, got away from us a little bit in second but we capitalized on our chances, which was great,” said Scheifele. We’re going to continue to get better,” said Bowness.
It's the final preseason game for the Winnipeg Jets and the Calgary Flames. The Jets will wait exactly one week to play their first game of the season.
Should be good to go in the Home opener against the Rangers. Hellebuyck would last start against the Oilers on October fifth he would stop 25 of 27 shots but would fall short in the shootout stopping one of two Oilers attempts. - @Connor Hellebuyck will most likely start the game. I’d be a fool not to mention It was a fun preseason game through and through and tonight’s game should have some extra grit. Before we get to the game between the Jets and New York Rangers on October 14th at Canada Life Centre. The Flames are going to be mad and will most likely look for some revenge after they took a 5-0 beating from the Jets on October fifth.

If he makes it through, he will be sent to the Moose as well. Lambert had a solid camp, showing he doesn’t need time spent in junior hockey with the Seattle Thunderbirds. A year later, the prose changed. He wasn’t in then-head coach Paul Maurice’s initial plans. When you’re at home or into the season, everyone has their own lives going on and things like that, older guys with kids, younger guys just figuring out the league, so it’s nice to get everyone together and have that bonding experience in a non-pressure environment before the season and build those relationships. The bonding experience is something the team couldn’t do as much during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pressure is on us, so hopefully, the guys have a good time and we show them a good experience.” “I’m excited to get the guys out there and have them see a pretty cool part of the world that I think you kind of take for granted when you live in Calgary,” said Morrissey, who hails from the southern Alberta city. “I think it’s a really courageous thing and the type of initiative on those companies’ behalves to ask for that change. Major sponsors carry a lot of the weight within an organization and the way an organization can run. I think based on the reception in the media and whatnot, there Article content
CALGARY — Rick Bowness won't be sweating the small stuff after departing the Saddledome in Calgary on Friday night.
A lot of the onus is on the guy finishing his check. Some of the onus is on the guy that’s getting hit. “I talked to the players after the game. The biggest thing is the team’s movement, and it helps to have Ehlers in for Blake Wheeler. Bowness wants that number nearly doubled this season. It’s a bit of a change for our group.” That line will be a problem for everyone they face. We will. We will give up that. It flared up a little bit in the first so it was precautionary. It’s resulted in two wins, including the latest 5-3 effort in Alberta on Friday. Article content

CALGARY — It hasn't been pretty at times, as Mark Scheifele pointed out after Winnipeg's final preseason game on Friday night in Calgary.
One of the things that stood out over Winnipeg’s home-and-home with Calgary is the team’s collective effort on defence. Sprinkle in the fact this line has been committed to getting back to its own end when needed, and there is all sorts of potential oozing from it. Gone are the days of a veteran-laden fourth line under Maurice’s old regime. Many, including yours truly, saw general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff’s inaction over the summer as a negative following the lows of last season. To a man, the Jets have tried in earnest to be a more aggressive club, and it’s been working. Rick Bowness has reinvigorated this Jets lineup, leading the club to a 4-1-1 record, including Friday’s 5-3 win over the Flames.
