In a statement to NBC News, Chris Clark, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, said: “It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one. Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony.

In October 2016, more and more people inside the FBI were starting to harbor serious doubts about decisions made above them, and they were starting to talk. A Trump appointee likely wouldn’t kill a strong case to protect the Biden family — and if there was interference from elsewhere in DOJ or the administration, he could make that known. [ wrote a book](https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Beautiful-Things/Hunter-Biden/9781982151126) about it), he bought a gun. Indeed, one of the reporters who broke the Thursday story — Barrett — landed a similar scoop in October 2016 for the Wall Street Journal. That wouldn’t get him off the hook for past criminal conduct, and the [Wall Street Journal reports](https://www.wsj.com/articles/prosecutors-advance-tax-probe-of-hunter-biden-11648465200) prosecutors are examining whether Hunter “moved funds in a way to obscure his tax liability.” This seems to be an open-and-shut crime — he said on the form he wasn’t a drug user, but he was. Then, in 2018, the [tax inquiry became](https://www.wsj.com/articles/barr-worked-to-keep-hunter-biden-probes-from-public-view-during-election-11607653188) a broader criminal investigation into Hunter, conducted by the US attorney’s office in Delaware, examining possible money laundering and whether he was an unregistered foreign agent. It does reveal, though, that they think the evidence is strong enough to charge Hunter in two areas. (US Attorney David Weiss of Delaware, a Trump appointee, is overseeing the investigation.) However, agents do not get to make the decision about filing charges — prosecutors in the Justice Department do, and the story contains no details about their current thinking. [ at least this spring](https://www.vox.com/23012186/hunter-biden-investigation-tax-fara). The news here is that agents investigating the case think they’ve assembled a case worth charging.

Opinion | If Hunter Biden Gets Indicted, There's an Upside for Joe (POLITICO Magazine)

Nobody with a soul hopes to see their kin convicted of a felony and sent to prison. So it's an absolute certainty that President Joe Biden isn't praying for ...

The prosecution of Hunter Biden surely isn’t the October-surprise-in-his-party’s-favor that the president has wished for. Republicans attempted to make Hunter Biden an issue in the 2020 presidential election, charging him with allegedly corrupt business practices that led to his father’s door and tainted his candidacy. So it’s an absolute certainty that President Joe Biden isn’t praying for prosecutors to send his son, Hunter Biden, to the slammer for tax and gun-purchase offenses that A Hunter Biden indictment and prosecution would demonstrate the integrity of the Justice Department, which its previous boss, President Donald Trump, politicized and continues to attack. Oh, and then there’s Trump nonstop hectoring about a “stolen election,” which he says — without evidence —has been ignored by the Biden Justice Department for political reasons. Trump said prosecutors should “lock her up” for her handling of classified information in private emails and decried the lack of prosecution as an example of rigged justice.

Hunter Biden begged Hallie for cash to go to rehab before gun buy (New York Post)

A shocking 4-minute, 30-second recording was discovered by The Post on a copy of the hard drive Biden abandoned at a computer repair shop.

Give it to my dad.” But I can’t help but to plead to you to get well,” Hunter’s sister Ashley Biden wrote to him on Sept. … Give it to my dad. “I hesitate to write you this. “I can use [the points] to use the place, the place I’m going. Go to The View,” she said on the recording. It’s always been about ultimately protecting Joe Biden — not his family.” Three days later he texted a prostitute: “Can you pick up vodka? give it to my uncle Jimmy. Hunter’s uncle Jim Biden, however, managed to secure him a bargain rate of $2,500 per day. Go back to The View. I don’t want you to know where I’m going.

The party’s marquee probe will focus on Hunter Biden and what connections his father, President Biden, had to his shady overseas business dealings. James Comer (R-Ky.), who is on track to chair the House Oversight Committee next year if Republicans retake the House. But instead of providing transparency, the White House is hiring staff at the American taxpayers’ expense to stonewall congressional oversight and accountability.” said Rep.
