Dickinson, a native of Georgetown, Ont., played 62 games for the Canucks last year, collecting five goals and 11 points.

Canucks trade for Riley Stillman (The Province)

The Vancouver Canucks have traded Jason Dickinson and a second round pick in 2024 to the Chicago Blackhawks for a gritty defenceman in Riley Stillman.

The streak lives on — By adding Stillman, this is now the 24th-straight season a former Florida Panthers draft pick has appeared on the Vancouver Canucks’ NHL roster. Part of making the trade was also about shoring up the defence corps, Allvin said. the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Arena. Last season for Chicago, he had the worst shot-attempts against percentage of any defenceman on the Blackhawks. That’s one part of the move Friday night to add Riley Stillman from the Chicago Blackhawks. Article content

Vancouver Canucks Acquire Riley Stillman (prohockeyrumors.com)

The Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks have made a trade involving Riley Stillman, Jason Dickinson, and a 2024 second-round pick.

Additionally, the acquisition of Dickinson fits in with some of their other additions from this offseason, in the sense that he is a player whose value has declined from previous seasons and has room to rebound. The former Oshawa General is a defense-first, physical defenseman who saw some time on the Blackhawks’ penalty kill as well. Now, the Canucks’ roster decision-making process will be a lot simpler. The Canucks have also [announced](https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/canucks-acquire-defenceman-riley-stillman-from-chicago/c-336166930) the deal. But in Vancouver his offense almost completely dried up, meaning improving Dickinson’s play offensively will likely be the first priority for head coach The Blackhawks are undergoing a full-scale rebuild, and this whole past offseason they proved they would leave no stone unturned in their quest to accumulate as many draft picks and prospects as possible.

Bumpy pre-season deflates start of high-stakes Canucks campaign (Sportsnet.ca)

Boudreau has said the season will be a “disaster” if the Canucks fail again to make the playoffs. Defenceman Tucker Poolman, who played only four minutes in the final three months of last season due to complications from migraine headaches, got better as the pre-season progressed and appears to again be part of management’s plan for the team. “I'm really happy to see the younger players pushing the older guys in practice and giving us some hard discussions about the opening-night roster. Asked about the cap savings and cost of doing business (the second-round pick), Allvin said: “It's part of the league. Last season, he had 12 points and 36 penalty minutes in 52 games in Chicago, averaging 15:04 of ice time and managing just a 39.2 per cent shot-share for the poor Blackhawks. And the next day, in the Canucks’ first tuneup game, Mikheyev suffered a lower-body injury on a hit against the Calgary Flames. The transaction saves the Canucks $1.3 million in cap space this season and next. To have a guy like Riley Stillman coming in here helps us, being a little bit harder to play against and also getting a younger defenceman.” “We see him as a third-pairing defenceman,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin told reporters during the second intermission. The organization has spent millions to renovate the dressing rooms, build a new lounge, medical room and gym for players, and expand coaching and staff offices. But after seven National Hockey League exhibition games and a 2-3-2 record, we still haven’t seen the new-and-improved Canucks. There wasn’t much space available within the arena’s compact footprint, but at least the media work room was cheap and easy to claim and repurpose.

• And as we type this, Linus Karlsson took a hit on the side boards and yelped. • Jack Rathbone has been notable in the offensive zone. • Strange second period, to be honest. They save on the cap and also in real dollars but the price is a second-round pick. They probably deserved two, but either way this is a statement on how weak their game is right now. Miller pass off the side boards — and they’ve bagged a second goal by Dakota Joshua after Curtis Lazar forced a turnover down low. Pavel Bure too would shoot the same, and Kuzmenko made a comment that had shades of Bure in them: the noted that the ice was bad, perhaps because it was late in the period, so he was thinking shot the whole way in after he collected the pass from Tanner Pearson as he leapt out of the penalty box. “We did a lot of good little things. We wanted to work hard and we worked hard,” the head coach said. with a couple caveats. The Canucks never looked in trouble, winning 4-0. Article content

The Stanchies: Welcome to the Kuzmenk-show, Canucks fans (Canucks Army)

Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka passes the puck out to Curtis Lazar for reasons, and he quickly finds Joshua all alone in front, scoring like a young Fedor ...

But credit to Kuzmenko for realizing that a team that recently lost to the Surrey Eagles might be prone to such mistakes: He was on display all night long, whether it was controlling the puck down low and evading bodychecks while trying to line up a pass: Ten seconds left in the period, Kuzmenko streaks out of the penalty box, and goes five-hole like Alex the Great. And to be fair, his shot is lethal, so he’s not even wrong to want the puck at all times. It’s hard to remember much of what he did on the ice in Vancouver because that was his thing, nothing ever happened with him. There was a time when the confidence in Elias Pettersson had dipped in this city last season. First off, Kuzmenko is an absolute delight in the scrums. Now, since this game is an exhibition event, and because the game was streamed off of a Commodore 64 duct taped to a bunch of Nokia flip phones, the gif quality will be a bit lower than usual. The Canucks ended the night 1 for 10 on the PP which seems like a large number, but then you see that the Coyotes ended the night with only seven shots and now numbers have lost all meaning. It’s a lesson many GMs learn early on, which is to try and announce trades during Canucks vs Coyotes games so it gets lost in the excitement over the NHL’s greatest rivalry. File this one very firmly under “cleaning up the contract messes” of Jim Benning, so that Allvin can one day make his own contractual messes, as is NHL tradition. Canucks Wrap Pre-Season With Shutout Win, Acquire Riley Stillman (The Hockey News)

The Vancouver Canucks traded for Riley Stillman during their game against the Arizona Coyotes Friday night, but could more moves be on the way?

We wanted to work hard, and we worked hard." "I think we checked, checked, checked — and that's what we wanted to do," Boudreau said. "We've got a couple of days here to keep you guys (the media) busy." But while filling those injury-related roster holes, the coaching staff may have uncovered some hidden gems in the form of players like Aman, fellow Swedish rookie Linus Karlsson and depth defenseman Christian Wolanin, the 27-year-old who's been steady in his first four games for Vancouver after signing a two-way free-agent contract this summer. But to get something, you have to give something." "I've been very pleased with Christian Wolanin," Allvin said. "You see around the league what what it costs in today's cap world." "We've got a couple D hurt," said coach Bruce Boudreau after the game. When training camp opened, Boudreau said he wanted to try to establish some consistent lines and pairings early on. "We do think that Aman's played really well," Boudreau said. Miller, Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson at center, the Canucks are deep in the middle. The bottom six has since become even more crowded, with 22-year-old free-agent signing Nils Aman showing good puck smarts and strong defensive reliability after coming to North America from his native Sweden.
