Google Pixel Event Live Blog: Pixel 7, 7 Pro, Pixel Watch and Tensor ... (CNET)

Google debuts the new Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, the Pixel Watch and the Tensor G2 chip at Thursday's Made by Google event.

Last year's models cost $599 for the Pixel 6 and $899 for the Pixel 6 Pro. Instead of having to listen to hold music in the background when on the phone with a customer service agent, Google Assistant will listen to that terrible elevator music for you and ring when it's the time to return to the call. [Pixel 7](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY70igorfBw) and [7 Pro's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5ggy3BcZwk) design, similar to the Pixel Watch video mentioned earlier. Google says the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be protected by the Titan M2 chip. Either way, seems Google is about to give a lot of details about the Pixel Watch. Google says the Pixel 7 will have the highest quality zoom of any Pixel. Preorders for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro start today. The Google Pixel Tablet will also include the G2 chip. The Pixel Watch will be the first Android watch with Fitbit integrations. CNET's Lisa Eadicicco is getting hands-on time with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at Google's event. The Pixel 7 Pro is the one with three cameras on the back. The phone will have a polished aluminum finish and an aluminum camera bar.

Google Pixel 7: New Tensor Chip, Better Camera for the Same Price (CNET)

The fact that Google has managed to keep the Pixel 7's price in the US the same is also significant. The Pixel 7 will be available in black, white and a soft yellow, which Google calls obsidian, snow and lemongrass. While Apple didn't technically raise the iPhone 14's price compared to the iPhone 13, it no longer offers a cheaper "Mini" version of the iPhone 14 as it had done the past two years. The snow Pixel 7 has a silver metallic, matte camera bar and matching edges that pair nicely with its glossy white exterior. And Direct My Call, which transcribes automated phone menus, will show the menu in text form right away so that you don't have to wait for the operator to verbally speak all of the options. The Pixel 7 is a modest upgrade, unlike last year's Pixel 6, which was the first phone to feature Google's self-made Tensor processor and a more drastic redesign from 2020's However, only the Pixel 7 Pro has a 48-megapixel telephoto lens that can zoom up to 5x optically and 30x digitally. Google Pixel 7 vs. Pixel 7 Pro: How to buy the right one for you (ZDNet)

It's here: Google's flagship lineup of smartphones, the $599 Pixel 7 and $899 Pixel 7 Pro. Like last year's Pixel handsets, the two feature Google's latest ...

If this sounds like a practical tool for you, then the Pixel 7 Pro is the better of the two Pixels. While the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro share the same main and ultrawide lenses, the latter carries a third 48MP telephoto shooter for those dreamy portrait shots of people, pets, and even food. If you're a fan of bright and lively yellow hues, then Lemongrass -- limited to the standard Pixel 7 -- has your name on it. Both aspects should yield significantly better endurance on the Pixel 7 Pro, making it ideal for power users and those who are always on the go. Oh, and the Pixel 7 series supports Face Unlock again. It's here: Google's flagship lineup of smartphones, the $599 Pixel 7 and $899 Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel 7 is not a small phone by any means. The Pixel 7 is just as capable as the Pro sibling with an IP68 rating, the same main and ultrawide cameras, and also being powered by the latest Tensor G2 chipset for high performance and efficiency. There's nothing wrong with paying less for a smartphone, but you'll certainly feel guilty knowing that the Pixel 7 comes with all the Android benefits of the Pro model -- while costing $300 less. To help you better understand the scope of the latest phones and make your buying decision as Pixel-perfect as possible, I've broken down the key reasons to buy one model over the other below. Our goal is to deliver the most accurate information and the most knowledgeable advice possible in order to help you make smarter buying decisions on tech gear and a wide array of products and services. And we pore over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the products and services we’re assessing.

Pixel 7 and 7 Pro unveiled with Tensor G2 and camera improvements (GSMArena.com)

They look mostly the same, though there are some changes inside and out. Pre-orders start today with a free Pixel Watch or Pixel Buds Pro as a bonus.

There are some pre-order perks too - the 7 Pro is paired with a free Pixel Watch (the LTE version no less), while a Pixel 7 pre-order will net you a free pair of Pixel Buds Pro. The Google Pixel 7 starts at $600/€650/£600 for a 128GB unit, the Pixel 7 Pro will set you back $900/€900/£850 (again with 128GB storage). The more slender build of the Pixel 7 also means that it has a smaller battery, 4,355mAh (down from 4,614mAh). It has a higher resolution sensor, 10.8MP (up from 8MP last year), and a wider field of view as well – 92.8° (up from 84°). Like with the Pro, a lot is riding on the Tensor G2 chipset (the 6a uses the original Tensor chip). For zooming in, the phone relies on the relatively high resolution main sensor and Google’s Super Res Zoom image processing (which has been upgraded, thanks to the extra processing power available on the G2 chipset). We would have loved to see 120Hz this year, even without LTPO, but for what it’s worth this phone is cheaper than the Galaxy S22 and iPhone 14 (which has a 60Hz display). The 7 is slightly smaller than the 6, due to its 6.3” display (down from 6.4”). There is the selfie camera to talk about, but we’ll leave that for the Pixel 7 report below. If you want to capture more of the scene, there is the 12MP ultra wide camera (1.25µm) with 125.8° FoV. The GPU is a Mali-G710 MC10, which promises a performance and efficiency increase over the G78 for graphics but also a 35% boost for machine learning tasks (something that the Pixel Camera app leverages heavily). It works to improve the Pixel 7's own cameras too, of course, more on that in a second.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro (2022): Features, Price, Release Date (WIRED)

These new Android handsets don't represent a giant leap from last year's Pixel 6, but they do contain some smart updates.

The Pixel 7 is a tiny bit smaller and lighter than the Pixel 6, with a 6.3-inch screen (versus 6.4 inches). So while Face Unlock gives you a quicker path to your home screen, you can't use the feature to authenticate payments or to sign into banking apps—you'll have to use your fingerprint for those. The screen is still not completely flat like on the Pixel 7, though. The Pro model employs polished aluminum, and the standard Pixel has a matte finish. Google also offered up more details about the Pixel Watch, the company's first-ever smartwatch, which you can At its Made by Google event in New York City today, the company unboxed its two new flagship phones, both of which feature small but welcome improvements—like Face Unlock as a secondary way to authenticate your identity, and a Cinematic Blur feature that adds a portrait-like look to video footage.

The phones are now available to pre-order, today, October 6th and both released on October 13th.

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro also have an improved recorder app with speaker labels, as well as an audio transcription feature for voice messages. Battery-wise, both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro boast 72 hours of battery with Extreme Battery Saver turned on. One of the highlights of the Pixel 7 Pro is that it features 5x optical zoom. You can also find 10-bit HDR that works with an assortment of apps like Snapchat. The handset also features macro photos allowing close-up pictures from 3cm away. An interesting caveat is that Face Unlock will just be for unlocking the phone, and users still need to use their PIN code or fingerprint to enable things like mobile payments. And with Super Res zoom, the phone uses its Tensor G2 and its 48-megapixel telephoto to get super detailed shots. Google has finally revealed more about the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. The great thing, however, is that Google isn't pumping up the prices. There's also more power put into Night Sight, so it's going to be much faster than it was before, as well as boosts to video capture on the Pixel 7, including a Cinematic Blur function for a shallow depth of field. But there's some more clever tech going into this camera, which will combine data from both the main and telephoto lens to boost the quality of images between 2.5x and 5x zoom where it's between lenses. Most of the attention, however, will be on the cameras, with Google continuing to pursue its computational photography. This puts a focus on security, while also introducing VPN by Google One (coming later in the year), which will enable you to encrypt and anonymise your internet activity to again protect your security. That includes highlighting more metal across the camera bar on the back, moving from having an insert in the frame to a more solid solution.

The Pixel 7 Pro Adds Face Unlock, a Bigger Screen and More ... (CNET)

Google's big reveal for the Pixel 7 Pro showcases a new Tensor G2 chip, better camera zoom and enhanced security features.

The Pixel 7 Pro seems like a minor upgrade over last year's Pixel 6 Pro, but it will likely feel like a noteworthy upgrade for those coming from a Pixel phone that's at least two years old. As was the case with the Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 7 Pro's display can boost its refresh rate up to 120Hz. The Pixel 7 Pro's color options include obsidian (black), snow (white) and hazel (a grayish green). The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro each have a slightly updated version of the design that Google introduced with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. [super-fast millimeter wave 5G.](/tech/mobile/not-all-5g-is-the-same-all-the-flavors-and-names-explained/) Google claims both Pixel phones should last for more than 24 hours on a single charge and up to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode turned on. With Guided Frame, the Pixel 7 or 7 Pro can verbally direct you on how to position your phone in order to capture a good selfie. The Pixel 7 Pro has a 5x optical zoom compared with last year's 4x, along with other zoom tricks too. Google uses the same idea with the Pixel 7 Pro's dedicated 48-megapixel telephoto camera. It looked crisp and detailed in the moment, but it's hard to tell without looking at it on a bigger screen. That enables it to blend in detail from the telephoto and main cameras for better image quality than digital zoom alone would provide, Google said. [Google's $899 (£849, AU$1,299) Pixel 7 Pro](/tech/mobile/pixel-7-pixel-7-pro-and-pixel-watch-everything-new-google-announced/) is taking the most expensive spot in the company's phone lineup, and like last year's Pixel 6 Pro is using its larger size and third camera to set itself apart. The new phones also signal Google's approach in doing so, which boils down to undercutting its competitors' prices, focusing on camera quality and developing exclusive software features for its phones.

Pixel 7 Hands-on: Built small (MobileSyrup)

At 2022's Made by Google event in New York City, I got the opportunity to go hands-on with the Pixel 7, the company's latest small-sized flagship.

These specs aren’t the most impressive on the market, but at a $799 price tag, Google’s Pixel 7 offers a lot of high-end features. Of course, we’ll need to do more camera testing, but I’m quite happy with what I’ve seen so far. I also snapped a few pictures at Google’s event, and they looked solid, although similar to the experience with the We plan to do more testing surrounding the smartphone’s battery life in the coming weeks. In fact, I preferred the visor on the Pixel 7 compared to the Pixel 7 Pro because of its more matte texture. The Pixel 7 offers a 6.3-inch display with a 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. I looked at several photos, checked out a few YouTube videos and browsed the internet, and the display looks stellar. Compared to Google’s 2021 model, the Pixel 7 surprisingly feels like a far more premium device. Further, even though the decrease in display size is minimal (6.4-inches to 6.3-inches), the change feels more substantial when you’re holding the Pixel 7 in your hand. The visor on the back is striking, thanks to its matte aluminum finish. Pixel 6 Pixel 7

Apple has seen high demand for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, which could lead the company to further differentiate the next-generation iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Google today announced the launch of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, which will directly compete with the iPhone 14 lineup, plus it debuted the Pixel Watch, an Apple Watch competitor. Apple could add exclusive features to the iPhone 15 Pro Max in an effort to encourage more people to purchase the larger and more expensive device. We've spent the last week working on an in-depth comparison that pits the new iPhone 14 Pro Max against the prior-generation iPhone 13 Pro Max to see just how much better the iPhone 14 Pro Max can be. The camera bump on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to be the largest rear lens housing Apple has ever installed on its flagship smartphones, and a new photo offers a rare glimpse at just how prominent it is compared to Apple's predecessor device. Apple itself only offers a maximum of $720 for customers who trade in an iPhone 13 Pro Max for a new smartphone, such as the 14 Pro Max. Pixel 7 Pro Hands-On: Google Goes Big on the Camera (CNET)

Google's Pixel 7 Pro has a better zoom and a slightly upgraded design compared to last year's Pixel 6 Pro.

Pixel 6 vs Pixel 7 comparison: Which is the better Google phone? (Mashable)

Google just unveiled the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Here's how they compare to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

The Pixel 7 Pro's telephoto lens can now zoom in up to 30x but still maintain sharp resolution and image stabilization. However, the Pixel 7 does have an upgrade in the 10.8MP selfie camera as compared to the Pixel 6's front-facing 8MP lens. There's the Magic Eraser to remove any eyesores from your otherwise perfect shot, Motion Mode for crisp action shots, impressive low-light performance, and Real Tone technology that displays vivid shades of a wide spectrum of skin colors. So, no change, but it's still top-of-the-line as far as display specs go. Thanks to some [credible leaks](https://mashable.com/article/google-pixel-7-leak), we saw a lot of this coming, but now we know the lowdown on all of the phones' exciting new software features — [like macro mode and Photo Unblur](https://mashable.com/article/google-pixel-7-pixel-watch-hands-on). As Mashable's Matt Binder outlined in a full [Tensor G2 analysis](https://mashable.com/article/google-event-tensor-2-chip-ai-announcement), the chip is 60 percent faster, 20 percent more efficient, and powers emoji suggestions with voice dictation, audio message transcription within text messages, and immediately displays automated directory options with the Direct My Call feature.

It's also easy to use, and the clamps securely hold your phone in place. It's the only wireless charger that can deliver over 20W charging to your phone. Thanks to the support for USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and PPS, the car charger can deliver up to 65W power through its USB-C port, which is more than enough to juice up the Pixel 7 or the 7 Pro at their top speed. It's fully compatible with the Pixel phones thanks to the support for USB PD and PPS fast charging standards. Pixel 7 Pro AI-Powered Cameras Could Make You Rethink That ... (CNET)

Exclusive: Along with new camera hardware, the Tensor G2 AI brain in Google's $899 phone helps you zoom, focus, unblur faces and shoot in the dark.

The camera is the same as the one used in the Pixel 6 models. 7: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro phones' main 50-megapixel camera. Google developed a method called Super Res Zoom that takes advantage of hand shake to gather more detailed data about the subject and zoom better. The Pixel 7 Pro's 50-megapixel main camera and 48-megapixel telephoto cameras offer something of a fix. "Obviously, the quality of 30x isn't going to be quite what it is at 10x," Schiffhauer said. The Pixel 6 Pro often pauses when activating its telephoto camera. You'll get full 12-megapixel raw images only at the Pixel 7 Pro's fixed zoom levels of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x and 10x. For all the cameras, though, Google now uses an AI algorithm to process focusing data from the image sensor. On the Pixel 7 Pro, the ultrawide has the same sensor as last year but gets a macro mode, autofocus and a wider 0.5x zoom. That improves photos compared with just digitally upscaling a photo from the main camera, Schiffhauer said. (The 2x mode works on Google's Pixel 7, too.) The Pixel 7 models' keeps the same 50-megapixel camera but houses it in a restyled camera bar.

Should Google have skipped the Pixel 7? (TrustedReviews)

Google's latest phone launch was a prime example of the compulsive yet unnecessary yearly churn in the smartphone market.

With attitudes like these being far from rare, it’s not surprising that manufacturers simply follow the demand, and they’re likely being richly rewarded for it too (certainly in the case of Apple). [Pixel 7](https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/google-pixel-7-pro-specs-features-price-release-date-4193317) handsets fall far behind the rest of the pack of its peers into irrelevance. He told me that he was perfectly satisfied with his phone actually and had no complaints about it, but just wanted some sort of change as he’d been using it for over a year. Partly of course that’s because even rivals have not made huge changes to their newest flagships, with the differences between the [Samsung Galaxy S22](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/samsung-galaxy-s22) and [Samsung Galaxy S21](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/samsung-galaxy-s21) also being relatively minor, and the same seemingly being true of the [iPhone 13](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/iphone-13) and [iPhone 14](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/apple-iphone-14) as well.
