Everything We Know About The Super Mario Movie From The ... (Nintendo Life)

If we had to guess, we'd say that Mario has to climb up to the castle for some reason. In the lower left, we can see an antiques stall, with voxel versions of old-school Mario items, like a P-Switch and the infamous axe that dropped Bowser into the lava. We can see a Toad falling off the Which means that there is at least some part of the movie where Mario is not in Toad Town. That means that coins — which we see a Toad carrying, and they're massive — are the official currency of Mushroom Kingdom, just like in the games. Maybe for the whole movie, maybe just for this chapter of the movie, but either way, Mario's gonna get up there. He might be — he's got the bag and the sense of adventure — but he hasn't got the hat. The first thing you'll notice — other than the back of Mario — is the sheer number of Toads in both the foreground and the background. But the fact that he's seemingly giving Mario a tour is important. [Nintendo has announced a special movie-related Nintendo Direct](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/10/nintendo-announces-a-special-direct-presentation-for-super-mario-bros-movie), meaning that we'll hopefully get to hear Pratt's take on the plumber, sans Charles Martinet's iconic voice.

The mere notion of a big-budget, or at least I’m guessing the over/under $80 million that Illumination tends to spend, Mario Bros. Nintendo has been so gun-shy about making movies and shows from their games since the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. It’s a Super Mario Bros. Nintendo tweeted out a first theatrical one-sheet for Universal and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo releases an arguably cursed movie poster as well as when the trailer is coming.

And seriously, for the love of all things holy, what is going on with the rendering on Mario’s ass? The trailer will drop on October 6 at 4:05 pm ET (or 21:05 UK time), during Nintendo’s panel at New York Comic-Con. The poster makes it seem like the film is literally going to be a classic Mario platform level, so I can’t imagine they’re going to deviate too far from that.

It'll be a while until we see this all-star cast take their best shot at Nintendo's iconic characters, as Illumination and Nintendo [delayed the movie to April 2023](/super-mario-the-movie-illumination-entertainment/184636/news/the-super-mario-bros-movie-starring-chris-pratt-has-officially-been-delayed). [Originally announced back in 2018](/movies/129146/news/nintendo-officially-partnering-with-illumination-on-mario-movie), Super Mario: The Movie is being produced by Nintendo and Illumination. There are, of course, many little references too – my favorite being the 'Antiques' shop that seems to sell items we haven't seen in a Mario game for some time.
