The final eight episodes premiere on October 2, and much is expected of these episodes. Aaron, Jerry, Lydia and Elijah get on the road to Oceanside to fill them in on a plan. 1117 “Lockdown” – October 2 – Daryl and Negan rush to the Commonwealth to stop Hornsby from going after their families. 1118 “A New Deal” – October 9 – Carol makes a deal with Pamela to wipe the slate clean on behalf of her friends. Our group of heroes encounters another group, conflict ensues, our heroes overcome the other group and move on. By this point in the story they should have killed off way, way more survivors so we could focus on the core cast for the final stretch. Need to find the brat Sebastian who’s hiding out? - I really like Rosita and I wish we got more of her. The best part of the episode was the action. all the same story. Daryl and Maggie and some of the other survivors take out pretty much all of Hornsby’s troops by the end of the episode and have him at knifepoint, grinning like a lunatic, when the credits roll. I’m not saying that nobody would protest, but the likelihood of this article sending the entire community out to the streets is very low—especially if we, once again, look at our own world and how few people actually go out and protest government transgressions and the various atrocities we encounter. Without a clear understanding of the politics and governmental structure of the Commonwealth itself, I find myself confused about Hornsby’s motives and actions. When a mysterious expose with no byline appears, the Commonwealth’s citizens take to the streets in protest. You don’t put gasoline and matches this close to the kindling and act surprised when a fire starts. Would a citizenry in a locked down, authoritarian survival colony rush to the streets to protest?

Lance, for all his many faults, at least is out there on the front lines with his pistol, exhorting his clamshells on to victory or death at the hands of Daryl (Norman Reedus) and company. Certainly, the Milton family as a whole seems devious enough to get involved in this kind of thing. It’s perfectly capped off by Hornsby, knife to his throat, smiling a Cheshire grin despite seemingly being on the wrong side of the boot for once. One features Daryl and company attempting to evade Hornsby and his seemingly endless parade of goons, and one features Carol and the folks back at The Commonwealth trying to get their evacuation plans in order while Milton increasingly starts taking dictatorial control. There must be some sort of appeal to giving into the darkness that thrives in petty power-hungry wannabes like Hornsby and Sebastian Milton (Teo Rapp-Olsson). [The Walking Dead](https://www.denofgeek.com/the-walking-dead/) premiere reach deeply into the show’s history, showing a selection of moments that go back to the very first moments of “ [Days Gone Bye](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/the-walking-dead-episode-1-review-days-gone-bye/)” and carry forward to the current day, with Daryl clearing Walkers while attempting to hide from the show’s latest in a long line of smiling threats, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton).

[With the show concluding next month](https://bamsmackpow.com/2022/10/02/walking-dead-series-finale-date-final-episode-twd/), there is always a concern that he may not make it out alive before the series finale ends, but it looks like Daryl will indeed survive the final battle. Daryl is portrayed by Norman Reedus and he was first introduced in the show’s third ever episode “Tell It To The Frogs”. If you had to rank the most popular characters though, there is a strong chance that Daryl Dixon would find himself at the top spot.

The Walking Dead premiered season 11, part 3, on October 2. This is the eleventh and final season of the series. One stand out in the episode was Annie.

Annie proved a worthy ally when she suggested they head to the sewer tunnels to plan a sneak attack on Hornsby and his men. Introduced in season 11, episode 13, “Warlords,” Annie was a part of Negan’s new group Riverside. Other roles she is known for include Keeping Company, Dr. [Annie Smith](https://undeadwalking.com/2022/09/30/walking-dead-final-episodes-annie-fate/), Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wife. One character who really stood out in episode 17, [“Lockdown,”](https://undeadwalking.com/2022/10/02/walking-dead-season-11-episode-17-lockdown-recap/) was Annie. Lockdown” begins right where the last episode left off: Lance turned up outside Oceanside and flipped a coin to decide the fate of the community.

The zombie herd is something of the background plot for the episode. This scene was the best emotional beat of the episode. Their first move is to get Jerry to take the kids to safety. I really loved the car chase scene as Negan and Daryl work together to escape the Commonwealth army. Eventually, he relays the plan to Carol, and now they start working together. There’s no empathy towards the people they are meant to protect. Carol and Negan ultimately locate Sebastian and offer to take him away to safety. Negan is the only character who is totally unknown to the Commonwealth, so he can go pretty much unnoticed. I mean, “Acts of God” left us on a pretty huge cliffhanger: Lance Hornsby turned up outside Oceanside and flipped a coin to decide the fate of the community. It’s not long before the rioters push harder and Pamela is escorted away. At this point in the season, the classic Walking Dead formula is in full effect. This definitely pulls on the heartstrings.

Tonight’s episode has a runtime of 65 minutes, with commercials, meaning the episode will run longer than the standard episode. I feel like The Walking Dead put all of its subtext right up there into the text where it concerns Mercer, who's facing a choice between going with the rules that he's used to being guided by, and a new regime that could promise a brighter future. This is really tapping into the lizard part of the brain, and isn't too deep in the slightest. Nick is a Cajun Country native, and is often asked why he doesn't sound like that's the case. It certainly could be read that way if one wanted to, and there are more than enough fans out there who would enjoy that coupling, but I'm not sure if I want to come away with that reading. Carol expected a threat when she opened the door to see Negan, and there may always be something inside her that expects him to go dark again. [somewhat distracts from any suspense](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/the-walking-deads-jeffrey-dean-morgan-shares-unpleased-thoughts-about-how-negan-spinoff-news-was-handled) that’s meant to be built up for the character. But knowing about the new show already makes it seem less likely that either of them will show up in the final season of The Walking Dead proper, which many fans will no doubt be hoping for regardless of what’s coming in the future. After a second of allowing it to sink in, she offered what could be read as a look of "If the world needed anything, it wasn't your offspring," and only said: [The Walking Dead](https://www.cinemablend.com/tag/the-walking-dead), as the flagship series has started laying out its last eight episodes that will eventually spin off into a variety of limited (for now) series. I 100% hope we see more of Jeffrey Dean Morgan sharing scenes with Michael James Shaw, regardless of what the specific dynamic is between Negan and Mercer at any particular moment. Norman Reedus unfortunately had [his own concussion scare](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/the-walking-deads-norman-reedus-opens-up-about-his-injury-on-the-final-season-and-why-it-scared-him-so-much) while filming the finale, while I’m assuming Daryl would be in the double digits at this point. Here are some of the ones that snuck out of my brain while I was watching “Lockdown.”
