Lauri Markkanen has 12 points in the first half on 5/8 shooting. Doubt we’ll see much (or any) of the starters in the 2nd half – Had a team-high 10 points in the 1st half, which included a pull-up top of the arc 3 (also hit a corner 3 that was nullified by an offensive foul). Achiuwa & Boucher both scored in double figures off the bench + the fringe rotation/roster guys (Banton/Flynn/Koloko/JJ) shined late.

Dominant Raptors feed off crowd to beat Jazz (Globalnews.ca)

The Toronto Raptors opened their exhibition season on Sunday by being simply dominant in their Canadian home away from home.

The Raptors were led by 11 points and 10 rebounds from Chris Boucher, one of five Canadian players to see the floor in the game. There were a lot of breakdowns, a lot of mistakes, that’s to be expected. “I think I got to see a ton of the middle of the roster, which was good. “A lot of deflections, a lot of challenges at the rim, changing shots, good rebounding, perimeter-shot contests were pretty good,” he said. “It definitely made the environment better, but it’s still a pre-season game. “Hopefully we put on a good show,” he said. “We’re looking for everybody to communicate and problem-solve as a group. And that’s what the Raptors did in a 114-82 blowout win at Rogers Place.

2 studs from Toronto Raptors preseason debut against Jazz (Raptors Rapture)

Scottie Barnes and Chris Boucher helped lead the Toronto Raptors to a dominant 114-82 preseason victory over the new-look Utah Jazz.

Boucher and Barnes may have piled up their numbers against lackluster competition in a game that lacked any stakes, but it was nice to see the guys get back together and execute Nick Nurse’s system to perfection. While it was hardly a perfect game from the Raptors, as the unevenness and rust were clearly on display early, many of the key names Toronto is expecting to be reliable contributors had impressive showings. Ultimately, the flashes we saw from Barnes and Boucher were too enticing to leave unrecognized. While this game had many of the usual preseason errors and mistakes that often make it tough to get into a groove, Toronto was able to dominate during a strong second half. Considering how all active players got some minutes and all but one scored, this victory was the dictionary definition of a team effort. The third quarter is when Toronto was able to put the clamps on Utah as their bench helped pull away.

It looked like his night might be cut short when he briefly had to leave the floor after taking a hard knock to the side of the head from Jazz guard Colin Sexton. Banton was in good form too, as he galloped through the open court for nine points, three rebounds and two steals. You’ve got to play hard, and you’ve got to play well. Flynn in particular is at a stage where he has to prove his worth as he heads into his third season. The Raptors led 50-49 at the half, setting the stage for a 31-point runaway in the second half. I think he should look to attack because he’s got the ability and great size and strength to do it. But there was little for the established players to prove. It was just special but it shows the Raptor brand and just how big we have grown and what we mean to the people and what the game means, what the team means being Canada’s team right now.” You look up to the rafters and it felt like people were hanging from the ceiling. He led all Raptors scorers in the first half with 10 before sitting for the second half. A playoff worthy ‘let’s go Raptors’ chant broke out before the ball went up and every Raptors basket from the opening tip to the final horn was greeted like it meant something. But it’s still interesting to get a flavour of it in person.

Raptors Lean In To Unusual Lineups in Preseason Victory Over Jazz (Sports Illustrated)

The Toronto Raptors see Precious Achiuwa and Chris Boucher lead the way in a preseason victory over the Utah Jazz.

Jackson looked the best of the group, playing tough defense while tallying 10 points and two rebounds. He took a three in the key foul and got into trouble a couple of times defensively. Boucher ended the night with a team-high 11 points and 10 rebounds. The third-year forward was once again making quick decisions on offense, putting the ball on the court and driving with conviction. The bucket wasn't exactly spectacular, per se, but it was the kind of easy offense the Raptors are looking to create this year by moving VanVleet more off the ball, allowing him to make the most of his deadly three-point jumper. The Raptors took the court without a single player 6-foot-7 or shorter.

Tonight, they shot 38 per cent in a rec league environment. - Toronto was one of the worst shooting teams last season. - I have not been this intrigued about Raptors preseason games in quite some time. Even if we do not lead the league in deflections again, our defense is tailor-made to get out and run. If Koloko periodically shows flashes, that alone will be enough to keep Wilson off the court. Jauncho needs to be the player the Raptors hoped Yuta was, someone who can knock down the three and play their heart out on defense. But there were also several encouraging sequences such as being a PnR dance partner with Pascal and the offensive putback off the glass! Boucher did not look good in the first half against Utah’s starters but looked explosive in the second half against the bench. Props to him for suiting up in the debut. Freddie is such a showman. 3 hot takeaways after Raptors destroy Jazz in preseason opener (Raptors Rapture)

The Toronto Raptors should come away from their dismantling of the Utah Jazz with these three concepts embedded firmly in their minds.

Boucher recorded a points-rebounds double-double in just 14 minutes of work, showing more evidence that he is back to the form we saw in the Tampa bubble. The preseason is the time when players that will not get tons of time in the regular season can make their case for an enhanced role. Christian Koloko's Defensive Impact Goes Far Beyond the Box Score (Sports Illustrated)

The Toronto Raptors see Christian Koloko as a defensive difference-maker whose mere presence is going to deter shots at the rim.

Now the Raptors can really get aggressive defensively knowing opposing teams have to think twice when they begin to pound the paint. He's still limited offensively and he's going to have to get stronger before the league's best players are shying away from attacking him inside. I know I say that a lot, but not everybody has that capacity to work that hard and he does. "(He) has a good understanding of what he's doing and one of the things I like about him is he's got a pretty good engine for work each day and that's really important. in the third quarter, Koloko stepped over, walling off what would have been an easy layup, and forcing a kick-out pass to Collin Sexton.
