It’s on 630 CHED with the Face-off Show at 5:30 p.m. McDavid was spun around and fell to the ice, remaining down for a few seconds before skating slowly to the bench. He returned to the game without missing a shift. Dillon Dube pulled the Flames even about minutes later. “It was nice to get in the new jersey and hear the new fans and the boys were buzzing out there,” Campbell said. The Oilers opened the scoring while killing a penalty in the first period.

Oilers' top shooters a bit slow out of the starting gate vs. Flames (Sportsnet.ca)

It was the first pre-season game for many of the top players on the Edmonton Oilers, and the rust showed in a 2-1 win over a depleted Calgary Flames roster.

“The second time was a surprise because I was ready to go. You know, it's kind of you kind of gotta be ready no matter what happens.” “I mean, the first time was awesome. It's a lot of games.” “You don't want to come into the season unsure of how your game is, or unsure of how you’re feeling. They have a solid backup in Vladar, and the promising Dustin Wolf slated to be the No. “Tip your hat to the goaltender,” Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. “We had numerous good looks (on the PP). You want to save a couple for the regular season,” laughed Kane. And at regular strength, it was much of the same: Plenty of shots on goal (38), but not much finish. McDavid was slow to get up, but never missed a shift. First pre-season game — I guess that's to be expected.”

These three were around the action all night, and Foegele had his best game of the preseason so far. The Oilers’ third line was arguably their strongest of the night. The second scrap came with under four minutes to go when both players dropped the gloves right off a faceoff. Nurse stepped up at the Oilers blue line laying a huge hit on Dube, and McLain came over and the two fought. With him on the ice at 5×5, Edmonton controlled 54.55 percent of the shot attempts, 51.89 percent of the expected goal share and 50 percent of the scoring chances. With him on the ice at 5×5, the Oilers controlled 74.19 percent of the shot attempts, 73.11 percent of the expected goal share and 75 percent of the scoring chances. GAME RECAP: Oilers 3, Jets 2 (SO) (NHL.com)

The Oilers came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Jets in the shootout on Saturday night.

They had the bulk of the play in that period, but we hung in and found a way to score the first goal of the game. As the game wore on, we got more and more competitive and foudn a way to win a road game in a tough building versus a tough lineup tonight. I'm really happy we found a way to get the win tonight." "I thought we hung in there the first period. With the game knotted at one in the third period and Winnipeg on the powerplay, the Jets looked to have taken the lead when Dubois capped off a quick feed from Cole Perfetti. After the Jets took a pair of penalties by Dylan Samberg and Pierre-Luc Dubois, the Oilers capitalized on the two man advantage courtesy of a beautiful cross-ice feed by Dylan Holloway, setting up the Demers slap-shot goal. When the ice gets bad you don't want to do to much with it and I saw low blocker." "We're always trying to find the puck here and there. Skinner is currently sporting a .942 save percentage through parts of three games during the Oilers preseason, turning aside 33 of 35 shots. The 24-year-old played 29 games with in the NHL last year, recording a goal and an assist. The 20-year-old made his way into 18 games with Winnipeg last season, picking up a pair of goals alongside five assists. The Oilers lead would not last for long.

An Edmonton team with Devin Shore, Derek Ryan and Mattias Janmark as its first line posted a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets Saturday.

“I’m happy with how camp has gone, I’ve felt good out there on the ice,” he said. He whipped a wrist shot into the far top corner behind Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck. There was plenty to digest in this one as the Oilers fought hard and had big nights on many fronts. He’s an unbelievable goalie and somebody I’ve looked up to for years.” “It feels good.” “He was our best player.”

So the dates that you need to block off for this trip are January 12th to 15th. Filip Engaras (F) will also report to the Condors after he was released from an amateur tryout. Gone are the days when we had spots on the roster for projects with upside, we need players that can contribute now, and that likely means the end of the road for some guys that expected to have a job this year. Now that we’ve officially reached the midway point of the pre-season, I’m hoping the pace of news (and the games for that matter) will start to pick up a little bit as we draw nearer to the starting line. With limited spots available, Jay Woodcroft and his staff will need to make some interesting decisions over the next week or so, and that doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for mediocrity. For basically anyone outside of the top nine, time is running out in a real hurry for anyone that’s hoping to make enough of an impact to land themselves a gig.

(PRESEASON) GAME THREAD: Edmonton Oilers @ Winnipeg Jets (The Copper & Blue)

Edmonton looks to get a few more reps in as world's longest batting practice continues tonight in Winnipeg.

Can’t wait for these games to be over with. They will also be backstopped by the often excellent Connor Hellebuyck: Both teams’ lineups will likely be remarkably different this evening as rosters begin to trim down toward the 21-23 players they’ll eventually be starting their seasons with.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 2, Flames 1 (NHL.com)

Leon Draisaitl and Brett Kulak found the back of the net on Friday as the Oilers downed the Flames 2-1 at Rogers Place.

I thought he put in a good performance and I thought that line was very good too." "I thought we did a lot of the things we wanted to do against a good penalty kill. I thought he was involved, he was physical, and was a big part of the penalty kill having success. "I thought Luke was fresh and I thought Luke played a really good game for us tonight. It's nice getting that first one out of the way and learning from it and moving on." He played a heck of a game." I've had the good fortune of coaching him the last three-and-a-half years in Bakersfield, so I feel good when he's on the ice, even against NHL competition, becuase he's so darn competitive and he made a really nice play on that goal." "I knew that I wanted someone coming out of the box that wasn't in our penalty kill rotation," Woodcroft said. Fresh off serving a successful Oilers penalty kill after Darnell Nurse was involved in his first of two fights on the evening, Luke Esposito carried the puck into the Flames end and lapped the offensive zone before dropping a pass to the incoming Brett Kulak. After Cody Eakin's deflection in front of Campbell went wide, the forward wrapped around the net and got a piece of the puck on the blade of Darnell Nurse to send it goalbound. "We saw the nice finish, but he made a great play while taking a hit in order to do it." "I thought we did a good job of that tonight.

Oilers place Seth Griffith on waivers for purpose of assignment to ... (Oilers Nation)

This morning, the Oilers announced via their social channels that the team has waived (F) Seth Griffith for the purpose of assignment to the Bakersfield ...

— To this point, Griffith has only played in one game with the Oilers — he got called up for the December 18th matchup against Seattle when Jesse Puljujarvi got COVID — but I wonder if the fine work he’s doing in the AHL will earn him a chance at some point. A fifth-round pick in 2012, Seth Griffith has spent time with the Bruins, Maple Leafs, Panthers, Sabres, and Jets organizations before eventually settling in with the Oilers/Condors for the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Edmonton Oilers Globetrotter-ed the Calgary Flames Friday night at Rogers Place. Only an excellent Flames goaltending performance stood in the way of a…

Had a good opportunity in the 2nd but did not get the shot off. An excellent effort, which he was finally rewarded for with an assist when he bumped a pass back to Kulak on the 2-1. A hit and a block in 7 minutes of TOI. A big, blocked shot in the 3rd after his young partner was beat wide. A shot in the 3rd was tipped by Yamamoto again who just missed. A good wrist shot in the 3rd off a Draisaitl pass. Nugent-Hopkins was very good on the PK, with a clean sheet in 1:54. And a 3rd period turnover aside, Bouchard was composed in his own end as well. Could not drain a give-and-go with McDavid in the 1st. Pocketed his first of the pre-season by scooping home a terrific set-up by Yamamoto for the 1-0. A shade high on a 1st period set-up from 97, another near-miss from the same guy in the 2nd. Was the busier and better of the two Oilers goalies on the night.
