It’s on 630 CHED with the Face-off Show at 5:30 p.m. McDavid was spun around and fell to the ice, remaining down for a few seconds before skating slowly to the bench. He returned to the game without missing a shift. Dillon Dube pulled the Flames even about minutes later. “It was nice to get in the new jersey and hear the new fans and the boys were buzzing out there,” Campbell said. The Oilers opened the scoring while killing a penalty in the first period.

It was the first pre-season game for many of the top players on the Edmonton Oilers, and the rust showed in a 2-1 win over a depleted Calgary Flames roster.

“The second time was a surprise because I was ready to go. You know, it's kind of you kind of gotta be ready no matter what happens.” “I mean, the first time was awesome. It's a lot of games.” “You don't want to come into the season unsure of how your game is, or unsure of how you’re feeling. They have a solid backup in Vladar, and the promising Dustin Wolf slated to be the No. “Tip your hat to the goaltender,” Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. “We had numerous good looks (on the PP). You want to save a couple for the regular season,” laughed Kane. And at regular strength, it was much of the same: Plenty of shots on goal (38), but not much finish. McDavid was slow to get up, but never missed a shift. First pre-season game — I guess that's to be expected.”

GAME RECAP: Oilers 2, Flames 1 (NHL.com)

Leon Draisaitl and Brett Kulak found the back of the net on Friday as the Oilers downed the Flames 2-1 at Rogers Place.

I thought he put in a good performance and I thought that line was very good too." "I thought we did a lot of the things we wanted to do against a good penalty kill. I thought he was involved, he was physical, and was a big part of the penalty kill having success. "I thought Luke was fresh and I thought Luke played a really good game for us tonight. It's nice getting that first one out of the way and learning from it and moving on." He played a heck of a game." I've had the good fortune of coaching him the last three-and-a-half years in Bakersfield, so I feel good when he's on the ice, even against NHL competition, becuase he's so darn competitive and he made a really nice play on that goal." "I knew that I wanted someone coming out of the box that wasn't in our penalty kill rotation," Woodcroft said. Fresh off serving a successful Oilers penalty kill after Darnell Nurse was involved in his first of two fights on the evening, Luke Esposito carried the puck into the Flames end and lapped the offensive zone before dropping a pass to the incoming Brett Kulak. After Cody Eakin's deflection in front of Campbell went wide, the forward wrapped around the net and got a piece of the puck on the blade of Darnell Nurse to send it goalbound. "We saw the nice finish, but he made a great play while taking a hit in order to do it." "I thought we did a good job of that tonight.

GDB -4.0 Wrap Up: Vladar tries to steal the show, Oilers cash in 2-1 ... (Oilers Nation)

After battling the urge to nap throughout much of the first three preseason games, I felt like tonight's matchup against the Flames finally had something to ...

McDavid didn’t miss a shift but that didn’t make me want to abandon the plan I was working on to wrap him in bubble wrap. - Was happy to see Cody Ceci get in the lineup after a groin issue kept him off the ice for a few days at the start of camp. As much as I know we’ll have rough times together over the next five years, the fact that he didn’t yell at Darnell Nurse when he made a mistake on Dube’s goal is enough to make me love him already. I mean, of course I’m happy that the boys still managed to squeak out the win, but I definitely wasn’t anywhere as stressed as I would have been if this game was for keeps. From start to finish, the boys dominated the play, and even though it would have been nice to see the offence put up the touchdown that their chances probably merited, I’m fine with seeing that a lot of the chemistry was still there. Even though the points don’t matter here, I cheered for Leon’s first-period goal like we need the points and it was fun to have that little rush of Draisaitl-powered adrenaline again.

The Edmonton Oilers fire at will, shoot 2 past Calgary's goalie for a 2 ... (Edmonton Journal)

The Edmonton Oilers Globetrotter-ed the Calgary Flames Friday night at Rogers Place. Only an excellent Flames goaltending performance stood in the way of a…

Had a good opportunity in the 2nd but did not get the shot off. An excellent effort, which he was finally rewarded for with an assist when he bumped a pass back to Kulak on the 2-1. A hit and a block in 7 minutes of TOI. A big, blocked shot in the 3rd after his young partner was beat wide. A shot in the 3rd was tipped by Yamamoto again who just missed. A good wrist shot in the 3rd off a Draisaitl pass. Nugent-Hopkins was very good on the PK, with a clean sheet in 1:54. And a 3rd period turnover aside, Bouchard was composed in his own end as well. Could not drain a give-and-go with McDavid in the 1st. Pocketed his first of the pre-season by scooping home a terrific set-up by Yamamoto for the 1-0. A shade high on a 1st period set-up from 97, another near-miss from the same guy in the 2nd. Was the busier and better of the two Oilers goalies on the night.

Oilers win, but Flames goalie puts a leash on Edmonton's big dogs (Edmonton Sun)

After spending the first three games of the pre-season giving youngsters a taste of the big leagues and scoping players on the cusp, head coach Jay ...

“I peeked a look and knew Leo was kind of creeping back door,” said Yamamoto, who was buzzing all night on the wing with Kane and McDavid. Draisaitl scored the best goal of the pre-season so far, but it was Kailer Yamamoto who made it happen. The second scrap was getting pretty good before the linesmen wanted to get on TV. “It’s time for us to get our game where it needs to be and ready for opening night.” “You can practice so much but you don’t really feel comfortable and confident till you start to play games. “I was joking around, that’s probably a good sign, you want to save a couple for the regular season,” said Kane.

Edmonton Oilers Pre-Season Game 4 vs The Calgary Flames (Oil On Whyte)

The Calgary Flames travel up the highway to Edmonton to take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight in the Oilers 4th preseason game.

It will be a stream, so don’t expect the best quality of video or instant-replays, but it is still Edmonton Oilers hockey in September and we can’t be picky. Just like the last game when the Flames at home brought out the bug guns, I expect the Edmonton Oilers to do the same today. - In past seasons the Edmonton Oilers have had one of the leagues best powerplay.

These three were around the action all night, and Foegele had his best game of the preseason so far. The Oilers’ third line was arguably their strongest of the night. The second scrap came with under four minutes to go when both players dropped the gloves right off a faceoff. Nurse stepped up at the Oilers blue line laying a huge hit on Dube, and McLain came over and the two fought. With him on the ice at 5×5, Edmonton controlled 54.55 percent of the shot attempts, 51.89 percent of the expected goal share and 50 percent of the scoring chances. NHL Rumors: Canadiens, Senators, Blues, Oilers (The Hockey Writers)

NHL rumors: Canadiens sign Jake Allen, Senators talk DeBrincat, Torey Krug speaks on trade rumors, and a Chychrun to Oilers update.

[Alex DeBrincat](https://thehockeywriters.com/docs/alex-debrincat/) was not ready to commit to the Ottawa Senators on a long-term deal just yet. [Jim on Twitter](https://twitter.com/nhl_tradetalk) or his social media accounts. He’s been a trusted source for five-plus years at The Hockey Writers, but more than that, he’s on a mission to keep readers up to date with the latest NHL rumors and trade talk. Jim Parsons is a senior THW freelance writer, part-time journalist and audio/video host who lives, eats, sleeps and breathes NHL news and rumors, while also writing features on the Edmonton Oilers. So obviously, they always got to — every single day — try to push your team forward and make a move that makes your team better. If Chychrun were acquired, it would likely bump Kulak down to the bottom pair and that doesn’t make much sense immediately following the new deal. “It’s a GM’s job to try to make his team better. These two years must represent the time frame that the Canadiens believe they need to usher in their goaltender of the future. Thomas writes that it was never clear there was ever any substance to the rumors, but Krug shot things down fairly quickly. In 2024-25, Allen gets a $1 million signing bonus, with a $2.3 million salary and a partial no-trade clause. Caufield has looked good in pre-season thus far and is a pending RFA.
