Miami Dolphins At Cincinnati Bengals: Thursday Night Football ... (Forbes)

Few would have expected the Miami Dolphins to be the undefeated side and the Cincinnati Bengals to be the 1-2 side heading into their head-to-head Thursday ...

This game has the potential to be low-scoring as well, despite the fact that shops set the total at a relatively lofty 48.5 points. Miami hasn’t won at Paul Brown Stadium since 2012, losing during each of its last two trips to Cincinnati. Both clubs have trended towards the under this year. The Bengals are a much more popular play amongst bigger bettors though, evidenced by nearly four-fifths (79 percent) of the handle on their side. Cincinnati has been one of the worst squads to back in 2022. Like their straight-up record, the ‘Phins are a perfect 3-0 ATS on the year. It’s hard to go against the Dolphins right now, however, as they own the best against the spread record in football ahead of Week 4. Despite Miami’s superior record, the team will be underdogs in this Thursday Night Football contest. Cincinnati is only conceding 224.7 yards per game through the air and has allowed just two passing touchdowns while notching a pair of interceptions and six sacks. Miami is one of just two teams heading into Week 4 with an unblemished record. The squad appeared to be in danger of that outcome after stumbling to an 0-2 start but began turning things around last week with a critical victory over the New York Jets. Of those eight teams, only three would go on to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Mailbag: Week 4 Dolphins at Bengals (MiamiDolphins)

It's a quick turnaround as the Dolphins exit Week 3 as the only remaining unbeaten team in the AFC and enter the primetime lights in Week 4.

His run defense and conditioning – 70 snaps played Sunday – often go unnoticed, not to mention his blocked field goal against the Bills. A: They'll need to be sharp in all areas against a good team like Cincinnati, but if I had to choose one it would be the pass rush. I would add that he's seeing the field really well. Due to the short week, the thread went up Wednesday. Yet, he's taken a stride in each of those departments through three games – making strengths stronger. Normally, we'll put out the call for your questions each Thursday.

The '72 Dolphins remain the only NFL team to run the table en route to a Super Bowl title.

He was part of a Dolphins offense like, that their defense, finished first in the league in scoring. So, for those reasons, an undefeated team had to play on the road for the right to go to the Super Bowl. "And we got to be a part of it. The loss held historical significance, as the Dolphins became the first team to not score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Shula also had a message for the city of Miami after the game. So he just followed them as they peeled to the outside." While he was a third wheel that season behind Csonka and Morris, Kiick still managed to gain nearly 700 all-purpose yards during the '72 season. Morrall, who was benched in favor of Unitas late in that game, was called upon to help the Colts finish their 16-13 win over the Cowboys in Super Bowl V after Unitas suffered an injury during the game. But his backup, former league MVP Earl Morrall, was the Dolphins' starting quarterback for 11 of Miami's 17 wins that season. The Dolphins made the playoffs for the first time in 1970, and in 1971, Miami won its first playoff game after defeating Kansas City in the longest game in league history. Setting the Stage for the Week 4 Dolphins-Bengals Matchup (DolphinMaven)

Breaking down all the details for the Miami-Cincinnati Thursday night game at Paycor Stadium.

And that margin decreases when you factor in the short week with the road game and the challenge of facing a Cincinnati team with its own aspirations. More tangibly, the Dolphins have hit big plays in the passing game consistently so far this season and it probably would be foolish to think they won't do it again against the Bengals. Playing on a Thursday night on the road is even tougher. The Bengals looked more like their 2021 version in their Week 3 manhandling of the New York Jets and still should be viewed as legitimate contenders to at least make the playoffs and perhaps make another deep run if things break their way. This has the makings of a very entertaining game with two offenses capable of putting up big numbers, but in the end we're thinking it will be Burrow and company who have the final word. But they also are a few plays away from being 1-2 instead of being 3-0, so the margin for error isn't huge. The Dolphins have shown the ability so far this season of coming up with big plays at key moments to pull out wins. Playing on a Thursday night never is easy. (ribs/toe) are listed as questionable. But for as long as Zac Taylor is the head coach of the Bengals and Joe Burrow is the quarterback, any time the Dolphins show up on the schedule, it’s impossible not to glance back to Dec. The Bengals had cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Mike Hilton showing off the teams new white and black alternate helmets with Color Rush uniforms on Twitter this week. People are always walking through there with a view of the field. Well, probably not, but the big men on the offensive line got to have a little fun doing their best Ja'Marr Chase impersonations this week in practice. In a frightening sight, Tagovailoa was on the ground with his arms outstretched, contorting his fingers, somewhat like a boxer or fighter after a knockout in what is referred to as a fencing response. Tagovailoa, who was ruled out of the game, was conscious throughout and had full movement in his extremities.

"The one thing I think our players know more than anybody, there's certain things that I'm very sensitive to. The team initially listed him as questionable to return with a head injury but later said it was a back injury that caused him to stumble. Cincinnati Bengals outlast Miami Dolphins in game overshadowed ... (USA TODAY)

The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Miami Dolphins in a "Thursday Night Football" game overshadowed by Tua Tagovailoa's head and neck injury.

Tagovailoa left the game on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Burrow threw a 2-yard touchdown on the following drive to tight end Hayden Hurst as the Bengals got the 12-point win. Evan McPherson made a 19-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 17-15 lead. Facing a Dolphins defense that held the Buffalo Bills offense to just 17 points last week, the Bengals offense had to battle. Following the 59-yard touchdown, the Bengals took a 14-12 lead into halftime. Tyreek Hill, possibly the best receiver in the NFL, beat Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and tried to slice between the Bengals safeties. Burrow was inefficient on a few potential plays down the field, he didn’t have anyone to throw to on a few play calls and the offensive line forced him to make a few quick decisions. When Hill first beat Awuzie, Bell was on the numbers near the left sideline. The Bengals would have fumbled away another opportunity to start the season strong. Bell clinched the win with 3:17 left in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins burned two timeouts in a three-play stretch. This Thursday night matchup was the type of opportunity that had been decades in the making.

Dolphins-Bengals Week 4 Halftime Observations (DolphinMaven)

Checking out the key moments from the first half of the Miami Dolphins' Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.

-- The drive finished with a great play call with Bridgewater throwing a shovel pass to Edmonds, who fought his way into the end zone for the touchdown. -- And, of course, the drive ended with a really bad interception on second-and-8 from the Miami 33 when Tua was very late in throwing deep to Hill after he got behind the secondary and then underthrew the ball, allowing safety Vonn Bell to come over and make the pick. -- Defensive tackle Raekwon Davis was back in the lineup, but wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. -- And in a span of three plays, Tua was hit twice, once drawing a roughing-the-passer penalty and then getting injured when he was sacked by Josh Tupou when he appeared to twist his back while throwing him to the ground on a clean hit. -- Penalties didn't help the Dolphins on the drive, particularly Keion Crossen's bad roughing penalty when he dove on tight end Hayden Hurst at the end of a 6-yard completion when Hurst already was on the ground. was inactive because of rib and toe injuries.
