Move over, Netflix’s [Tall Girl,](https://www.thecut.com/2019/09/tall-girl-summer.html) there’s a new tall girl in town, and she’s starring in the sequel to one of the highest-grossing films ever made.

Weaver originated the character of Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's original 1979 sci-fi/horror classic [Alien](https://screenrant.com/tag/alien/). It was arguably no huge surprise when Sandra Bullock was nominated for Gravity, or when Matt Damon received a nomination for The Martian, considering how big those movies were and how famous those stars are. It was a huge surprise to all of us because it was in that other world. Even with all the amazing action set pieces and indelible visuals in Aliens, Weaver’s performance as Ripley may be the most memorable element of the film. But at the center of all Cameron’s Marines-vs-Xenomorphs mayhem was still the character of Ripley, who survived the events of the first film, and spent years drifting through space in hypersleep, only to be plunged right back into the fray.
