49ers vs Broncos week 3: SF loses Denver Broncos in 3rd down ... (Niners Nation)

It's still early in the 2022 season, but the Niners' offense was a mess on Sunday night in Denver.

The 49ers were flat-out abysmal on third down in this game. Not only did Garoppolo run into the back of the end zone, which led to a safety, and fumbled a snap and threw an egregious interception at the most critical juncture in this game. Look, I understand that was one of the worst performances we have seen from the 49ers under Kyle Shanahan. That was one of the worst losses of the Kyle Shanahan era in San Francisco. The only thing that is consistent about Garoppolo is the inconsistency that he plays with. The same mistakes, the same missed throws, and the same solid to above-average play sprinkled in.

This means the Broncos had a great opportunity to gain and separate from their rivals on Sunday night, and that’s exactly what they did. The Broncos defense has allowed the offense to figure things out while keeping them in each and every game. So, hopefully, this defensive performance continues and the Broncos find similar success throughout the rest of the season. There’s a good chance that Surtain will be shadowing him throughout the game and if he can shut him down, that would be pretty impressive. He was called the “glue of this defense” and we saw why last night. “Really in the fourth quarter, I had to kind of use my legs and kind of take over. It was a rough go for the Broncos offense through the first three-quarters of this game. And then, we had a run called and I ended up changing the play to Courtland and he made a great play on that one-on-one. However, Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense made the necessary plays to get in the end zone in the final minutes of the game. We saw the instant results of Rosburg’s addition during last night’s victory and he just joined the team. We were able to punt it, Corliss did an amazing job and made a drive down the field, and we got the ball back and then had that winning score. He told the reporters that “Jerry was great” and that Rosburg held him back a bit from being overly aggressive on fourth downs during last night’s game.

Denver Broncos offense is 'so close' (Mile High Report)

Russell Wilson said when the offense clicks, with how the D is playing, the Broncos are going to be unstoppable.

We’re all learning what the thought process (is) in this moment and that moment — how you want it to look in this or that (moment). The good news for the Broncos is they’ve found ways to win. But for tonight, we’re going to enjoy this win because it was hard-fought and well earned.” “We’re going to enjoy this for the night. The defense doing what they did, and us being able to get the points on the board to get the win. Once we do (that) with our defense (and) how they’re playing, it’s going to be unstoppable, I think. even the deep ball to Jerry (Jeudy), (he) almost (caught it). There’s always going to be things that we can correct. Added Sutton: “I’m pretty sure you guys saw the raw emotion on the field. “I’ve been a part of some good offenses and I think we have a chance to be really, really great. We knew it was going to be a tough matchup. In (the) red zone, we could’ve been five for six over the first two games.

5 takeaways from the Broncos' 11-10 win over the 49ers (Broncos Wire)

It wasn't pretty, but the Broncos got an important win against the 49ers in Week 3.

Wilson (and the entire offense) were sluggish for three-and-a-half quarters before finally coming to life in the fourth quarter. We might be having a different conversation if one or both of the fumbles were lost, but Gordon helped redeem himself (at least in part) by Fortunately, both of them were recovered by the Broncos (Gordon fell on one and Russell Wilson recovered the other). They forced three fumbles and recovered two of them, and the unit forced a safety and an interception. The return of starting inside linebacker Josey Jewell gave the squad a big boost — Jewell had a sack, recovered a fumble and led the team with nine tackles. If that’s not corrected, it could cost the team wins later in the season.

Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett also noted that OLB Baron Browning is doing well after leaving the game with a knee injury.

Before suffering the injury, Jones deflected a pass on third down to end the 49ers' opening drive. He was also credited with a sack, as he forced 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo out of the back of the end zone for a safety. Behind Jones, the Broncos currently list veteran Mike Purcell and rookie Matt Henningsen as reserves at nose tackle on the unofficial depth chart.

We had to be the ones to go out there and get the ball back. "We had to make sure we finished it. "We had to finish it," Chubb said. I think that's one of the biggest ones, against a team like that. "I mean, I don't want to get too brash in saying this, but I think we're the best in the league, man," outside linebacker Bradley Chubb said. Against a team that reached the NFC Championship a year ago behind an offense that ranked seventh in the league, Denver managed to hold San Francisco to just seven points and zero third-down conversions in the first half.

Denver Broncos 3 quick takeaways after clutch win vs. 49ers (Predominantly Orange)

The Denver Broncos got themselves a win on Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. What were the biggest takeaways?

It feels at times like the team is going to need a defensive score just to keep hope alive. It’s safe to say they were markedly better in those two areas with just five accepted penalties (compared to 25 in the first two games) and much better overall game management with no clock issues. A win is a win in the NFL and you grind them out any way you can. [The Denver Broncos got a much-needed win](https://predominantlyorange.com/2022/09/26/broncos-win-week-three-genuine-progress/) on Sunday Night Football at home against the [San Francisco 49ers](http://ninernoise.com), moving to 2-1 on the 2022 season. I think it’s certainly worth being at least a little worried about the Denver Broncos’ offense at this point. After those first two games, the Denver Broncos had to be better in two specific areas, namely cutting down on penalties and being better with game management.

Josey Jewell helps D carry Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos in SNF ... (Mile High Sports)

Which players were most responsible for the Denver Broncos' pivotal win over the San Francisco 49ers? Let's look.

Now, yes, Fleming was a disaster on Sunday Night Football and Glasgow has had his fair share of ugly moments, but starters were getting whooped too. That’s unacceptable for an offense captained by a quarterback set to make a quarter of a billion dollars. Those glimpses were also there as the first half came to a close. Considering the defense only forced one three-and-out this game (though yes, they were outstanding), the punt team deserves some credit for consistently giving Jimmy Garoppolo and Co. Over the six times Garoppolo targeted Surtain, he averaged 0.0 yards per attempt and completed zero percent of his passes. The Broncos went from averaging 12.5 penalties for 103 yards over their first two games to being penalized just five times for 30 yards. Was calling an ’empty’ look on 3rd-and-long, against San Francisco, in field goal range, when all they really had to do was avoid a sack, a display of good coaching? If that pitcher comes in and gives you four run-free innings, even with a couple of doubles sprinkled in, it’s a considerable improvement. Let’s take a look, in this latest edition of the Denver Broncos Stock Exchange. Even more impressive though, that run stuff was just the cherry-on-top. You don’t need to be perfect to be a terrific player, and ‘terrific’ beautifully describes Jewell’s debut performance this season. The Denver Broncos gutted out another ugly win this week.

Russell Wilson Details Using his Legs to 'Take Over' vs. Niners (Sports Illustrated)

However, Wilson had anticipated how stiff the Niners would be going into this game, and counseled his teammates to also be aware and stay in the fight when ...

Really in the fourth quarter, I had to kind of use my legs and kind of take over. Wilson finished with more rushes on Sunday night than in the first two games combined. Just as Wilson foresaw, the Niners presented a stingy test. On that drive, Wilson seemingly threw caution to the wind, and took over the game, especially on third down. “The best thing you can do is stack wins," Wilson said. "We were able to win in the fourth," Wilson said. Fortunately, I’ve won a lot of games here over my lifetime in the NFL. The shift Wilson spoke of began taking shape with about 10 minutes to go in the fourth. "I have the State of the Union meeting on Tuesdays. [What happens next on the Broncos?
