Sweet foods are popular during Rosh Hashanah, ancient Jews believed apples had healing properties and honey signifies the hope that the new year will be sweet. It also marks the start of year 5783 in the Jewish calendar. Jewish congregations will recite prayers from a special prayer book known as the Rosh Hashanah, also known as the Jewish New Year, is one of Judaism’s holiest days.
