Survivor 43 premiere will continue upon a new era of the hit reality TV show, but how much time will fans get in the opening episode with the new castaways?
If the previous two seasons are any indication on what will happen, fans might expect to see two contestants exit the game during the Survivor 43 premiere. Although the uncertainty of what Survivor produces each and every season is part of what makes this show magical, Probst has given fans an idea of what can be expected. Although we do not know what new twists might show up, the season premiere of Survivor 43 will be a great indicator of what’s to come. The Survivor 43 premiere airs Wednesday, Sept. [Host Jeff Probst already talked about](https://ew.com/tv/survivor-43-jeff-probst-hourglass-do-or-die-interview/) how two incredibly impactful twists will not be making a return to Survivor 43. Survivor 43 will continue its “new era” style of play, much like seasons 41 and 42 where major twists and turns impacted the contestants and their decision-making.
Once again Survivor is following its 'new era' format that will pit 18 'castaways' on 3 teams against each other. So who are the contestants for Season 43.

'Survivor 43' premiere recap: A new game has begun and it's as dangerous as ever! Who was the first person voted off the island?
They make the pitch to Elie and Jeanine, and since they know he doesn’t have an advantage, it seems like a clear shot. Despite the tribe feeling like one happy family (and Morriah trying to convince a bewildered Jeff that they actually won, since they gave it their all) the tension starts to rise as they talk about making connections, reaching out to each other and keeping the tribe strong. Since Gabler was one of the ones to lose it on the table, he tells everyone that he doesn’t want to hide behind his idol (?) and that as a result of his performance, he’ll play his Shot in the Dark and leave it to chance (??). Working together, they have to get up the ramp and across a beam. She and Jeanine both agree that they need to keep all of the men, which unfortunately paints the target on Morriah. The first tribe to get it earns the flint, a machete and a pot. When they get back to camp, Dwight decides to tell his tribe the truth, but Cody doesn’t believe him. It could lead to an advantage, or it could lead to losing a vote. The other tribes catch up, and thanks to a great suggestion from Cody, Dwight is able to get his flint inside the pole and tear it off, making Vasi the first triumphant tribe of Survivor 43. And they’re about to dive right into the season’s very first… There’s also Lindsay, a mom and pediatric nurse who’s been applying to the show for 22 years, and Sami, a BYU student and pet cremator who claims he’s a very “energable person” (not a word, but nice try!) ( And maybe a monster lurking in the jungle?
Spoiler Alert. Robert Voets/CBS. [Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for the Survivor Season 43 two-hour premiere, “LIVIN.”].
The players army-crawled through mud to begin, then had to comb through a giant pile of leaves to find their three balls — the leaves sticking to their bodies because of the mud. The first tribe to get all of their players across gets their choice between three table games, the second picks from two, and the third gets the last available table. He feels guilty for being “part of the loss” but being immune from elimination, so he tries to save face back at camp. The first to finish keeps their flint, as well as earning a pot and machetes. The trio makes their way to a giant rock, not a mountain like in 41 and 42’s Summit Challenges. As he rides away, the players question their willingness to let him sail off to a possible advantage without protest. Ryan and Geo volunteer, and Ryan has the idea to tackle the digging in an x formation, “working smarter and not harder.” Thanks to Ryan’s strategy, they found the buried bag in the first 30 minutes of their 4-hour window. One player stands on top of the crates and uses a bamboo pole to fetch their flint from a high height. And Cody, an elevator salesperson, is convinced salespeople are a big threat to the game. The final leg was on the beach, requiring the teams’ remaining two players to form a cube out of the collected crates. The first leg was in the jungle, requiring two players from each tribe to run and carry back heavy crates. The second leg was aquatic, prompting the pairs to unclip loaded boats and drag them back to shore.
This was actually one episode consisting of three days and one Tribal Council for a full two hours. How rad is that? So rad. Some might even say as rad as a ...
I don't know if the new Prisoner 2.0 is better or not, but I appreciate that in a 2-hour episode it only took up a small portion of the proceedings, thereby keeping the emphasis on getting to know the players and regular tribe dynamics, which is really what you want to devour at the start of the game. But what was bizarre was when the man holding an immunity idol then announced to the tribe that he was going to play his Shot in the Dark at Tribal Council "because I should be at risk tonight." Is that from digging and forcing herself under that log in the immunity challenge or did Sami's Shih Tzu jump out of the incinerator and attack Jeanine's face? But this is definitely the tribe I feel I have the least of a handle on. The big thing to note early from the Baka tribe in the game is that nobody from the Baka tribe seemed to want to play the game. Of the three keys I had to get by using a long pole to slide the ring up another pole and to the ground, I got the first one on my first try, another one of my second, and struggled a bit on the third. Essentially, Violet's idea was that instead of giving tribes the same choice in a challenge — like selecting between a 5, 10, or 50 piece puzzle — that the first team to arrive at that section of the competition was allowed to choose between all three options, the second team must select from the remaining two choices, and the last tribe was stuck with what's left. Instead of trying to get the pole into the ring to push up, he told Dwight to put the flint dangling from the ring into the hole of the top of his own bamboo pole and then just move it to the right until it fell off. Is that what happened at the end of the reward challenge here at the marooning? Everything is beautiful because Survivor is back and all is right in the world… Yes, there was a journey to an island and an updated version of the risk/reward choice that yielded a single immunity idol for… I know I have made (and reneged on) such promises before, but eyes on the prize, baby!
Just like the last two cycles, this year's crop of 18 contestants have been divided into three tribes (Baka, Coco and Vesi).
They went to Elie and Jeanine with the option of going for Owen because the risk of going for Gabler was too high and so it put Elie and Jeanine in the middle. At the very end was a set of table mazes where the first tribe to arrive got to choose one of three, the second tribe to arrive got to choose from the remaining two and the last tribe had to take on the unchosen maze. Then he declared that he wouldn’t be using his idol that night and would instead play his shot in the dark advantage as a way of owning up to the fact that he should be at risk based on his challenge performance. Meanwhile, Dwight learned he lost and showed that he lost to the rest of his tribe, noting that it means Gabler won the advantage. Karla was happy with her decision, seeing the other two as being someone that lost a vote and the other as a threat to the rest of their tribe, suggesting that neither was likely to make the merge. When he went off to find out the result of the risk, Gabler screamed, a clear alert to the rest of his tribe that he won the advantage. His strategy continued as the tribe got to work on their shelter, with him doing a brunt of the chopping and telling them that he’s 22 years old instead of the truth that he’s 19 years old. If that was going to remain a trend with his tribe, he envisioned that they might have a hard time staying connected as a tribe later in the game. In that task they had four hours and only two official attempts to move two bones in a set of numbers in order to rearrange them into the largest possible number. – The yellow Baka tribe and the red Vesi tribe were the first to finish the first stage, sending their second set of players into the water. James and Lindsay of Coco were the first to climb their box, but Lindsay struggled to get the flint off of the pole. A handful of the players talked to Jeff about their history with the show and how it’s always been a family dream to be on it.
Survivor season 43 is underway in 2022. Find out which player was voted out tonight.
— Gabler beat out Dwight in the draw, earning an idol good through the first two Tribal Councils he attends. There, they were presented with an opportunity to risk their vote for a random draw for an advantage. And early on, the Baka classroom she resided in had a happy-go-lucky vibe. Teacher Morriah had by far the most colorful personality, wardrobe, and hair entering Survivor 43. We were treated to 18 new castaways with brand-new stories to tell as they play the greatest game on Earth.
John Powell - GlobalTV.com Are you feeling it? For me, Survivor has a different energy this year. It is definitely more distinctive than the last two.
Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week. Unfortunately, she never got beyond the starting gate. She perhaps waited a little too late to do so. Morriah wasn’t thrown overboard because of any missteps or mistakes. News Does Cody get injured in some way? Nobody would hold it against Mike if he played his immunity. The experience should be harsh and rough. The Baka tribe was in the honeymoon stage of the game in which everyone was one big family roasting marshmallows around the fire and singing campfire songs when they should have been preparing for war like the other tribes were. I could have been but I choose a different path. It is definitely more distinctive than the last two seasons and I think it is more than finally being free of the physical and mental restrictions of the COVID era. Not because I was in a gang or anything like that.
There're times when it makes no sense to use top-notch cinema cameras. For instance, shooting in an ultra harsh environment like CBS' Survivor.
Thus, we wanted that our colorists have more control, but we wanted to set up everything for the possibility of future HDR and Dolby Vision color grades. As John states: “In a reality show like Survivor, the production needs to handle thousands of thousands of hours of footage”. John Heard, Co-Executive Producer and Post Producer shares with us how the PXW-Z750 4K HDR shoulder mount camcorder played a pivotal role in their HDR-ready production of the new season (premiering Sept. “It’s important to have something robust..something that you could grab a handle and throw it down at the sand and get the shot that you needed. “We’ve been shooting the show since the beginning in Rec.709. Furthermore, this season, the production had the privilege to move to S-Log workflow. Something that you could easily cover when the storm came in, and still continue to acquire the footage. Sony has been a part of CBS’ Survivor production from the start. In that case, the production has chosen the Sony Z750 4K HDR for the job. In the upcoming new season (no. The PXW-Z750 specifies dynamic range in percentage, which is 1300% in HDR mode (no idea how much is in true stops). The Sony Z750 4K camera is not new (was announced in September 2019).
Along with Dwight Moore (Vesi) and Mike Gabler (Baka), each player had an opportunity to take a shot at winning an advantage, but the risk meant the chance of ...
With Owen being a college admissions director and Morriah being a middle school teacher, these are two personable people who know how to communicate; yet, they found themselves on the bottom of the season’s first episode. For those who did or didn’t take the risk on their three-person adventure, Karla and Dwight were able to breathe a sigh of relief as Coco and Vesi won immunities. When one member of each tribe was tasked with taking a ride on a boat and ultimately learn information about one another, Karla Cruz Godoy from the Coco tribe had her game face ready. After the initial reward challenge, the different tribes had to make their way to camps and ultimately end up working on their shelters. Players had to haul heavy boxes, pull a boat to shore, solve a cube puzzle with those boxes and then be the first to capture a flint. The Survivor 43 season premiere saw [18 castaways](https://hiddenremote.com/2022/09/20/survivor-43-cast-whos-new-season/) land on the beaches of Fiji where they were divided into three tribes; Vesi, Baka and Coco.
