After eight seasons calling Habs games, he will be leaving radio to take a TV play-by-play job with another NHL team.

Former Canadiens player Chris Nilan was fired by Bell Media in February after refusing to take a COVID-19 vaccine and seeing his request for a medical exemption denied. Robertson grew up in Trenton, N.S., a town of about 3,000 people. A possible landing spot for Robertson could be Winnipeg. it’s really been a big thing in my life to be the voice of the Habs. Robertson spent the last eight seasons as the Canadiens’ English radio play-by-play voice, working with colour commentator and former Canadiens player Sergio Momesso. Article content

Stu Cowan: All eyes on Juraj Slafkovsky at Canadiens' rookie camp (Montreal Gazette)

"For an 18-year-old to be that size is a very rare breed," says Habs' Josh Anderson, who is the same size as the Slovakian teenager.

“On the ice, he’s a lot bigger than I imagined. “I just got here last week,” Caufield added. “He’s smart and he’ll be a great addition to the team. For those concerned that might be a mistake after what happened with Jesperi Kotkaniemi, there’s a big difference. “I think that’s important for Montreal.” He had a strong performance at this year’s world championship, posting 3-6-9 totals in eight games, and was also named MVP at the Olympics after scoring seven goals in seven games as Slovakia won a bronze medal. Size isn’t the only thing the Canadiens liked about Slafkovsky when they decided to take him with the No. Eighteen of the 28 players invited to the camp were drafted by the Canadiens, including six this year. The Canadiens rookies will play their first game against the Sabres on Thursday at 7 p.m. Slafkovsky was also 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds when he reported for the Canadiens’ development camp in July. Not only how tall he is, but how thick he is.” Article content

Open Thread: Buffalo Sabres vs. Montreal Canadiens Prospects (Die By The Blade)

Join us here for live updates & thoughts from the rink! 6:50 PM: Buffalo loves its hockey. We all know that, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how full this crowd ...

8:50 PM: Tyson Kozak scores a beautiful goal to make it 4-2 early in the third period. 8:20 PM: Josh Bloom & a teammate just had a great combo to essentially bodyslam a Habs prospect between the two of them. Shots in the period were 16-8 in favor of MTL. and he’s instantly thrown into the fire as the Sabres head to the PK. 7:38 PM: The offense on both sides definitely seemed to find its legs as the first period went on, and it’s 2-2 after twenty minutes. Josh Passolt picked up a pass from Linus Weissbach on the first one, catching the goalie moving and capitalizing on the open space. 7:14 PM: It’s early in the game, but Warm has already had to make a few big saves. 7:25 PM: Filip Mesar goes bar down to score shorthanded for the Habs, putting them up 2-0. The Sabres just scored two quick goals to tie this one up - both from undrafted players. 7:21 PM: Josh Bloom & Filip Cederqvist had a really nice play and nearly capitalized, but the puck slipped off Bloom’s stick before he could get the final shot off. (And yes, there are a handful of Habs jerseys in the crowd.) 7:08 PM: The anthems are finally (finally!) over, and we’re getting ready for puck drop.

The Sabres open the Prospects Challenge against Juraj Slafkovsky and the Montreal Canadiens.

He becomes the fourth No. "He looks harder on the puck. "He looks faster," Appert said. The two goalies on Buffalo's Prospects Challenge roster will split the opener, Appert announced. Jiri Kulich will not play in the tournament due to a lower-body injury, Appert announced. Rosen, the 14th-overall pick in 2021, will be one of four first-round draft selections on the ice when the Sabres open their three-game Prospects Challenge schedule against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

The Debate Around Montreal's Best Defensive Prospect (Montreal Hockey Now)

The Montreal Canadiens have assembled a deep cast of defensive prospects over the years, but debate continues over who is the most promising.

Development is such a tricky thing to foresee, but at this current moment, Kaiden Guhle is the player who has the highest combination of potential ceiling and likelihood to hit said ceiling and that should make him the most promising in consequence. [Montreal Canadiens8 hours ago ](https://montrealhockeynow.com/2022/09/15/success-of-the-canadiens-rebuild-to-go-through-laval/) If Mailloux is able to remain healthy, then we can begin to see some growth in his game and further evaluate if he seems on pace to be that top-end offensive defenceman moving forward, but, as it stands, Guhle is the closest bet the Canadiens have to become a potential top-pair defenceman. It’s a worthwhile debate to be had, as former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin believed so strongly in Mailloux’s potential that he put his hand in literal fire just to select him a little over a year ago in the first round. This is not to knock Mailloux’s ability, not for one second. “He doesn’t have the same style of play as Kaiden Guhle for sure, but it was important to mention.”

Montreal Canadiens Prospect Standouts Versus The Sabres (Montreal Hockey Now)

Owen Beck, Juraj Slafkovsky and Filip Mesar stood out as the Canadiens' top prospects against the Sabres, but there's still work to be done.

The same can be said about Justin Barron, who captained the Canadiens’ squad in their 4-3 loss to the Sabres. Mattias Norlinder struggled in the first period, playing a reluctant style of play that led to a few turnovers. Sure, he scored a goal and set up another, however, it was his stalwart work in the defensive zone that truly shone brightest. Whenever Slafkovsky had the puck in the offensive zone, his linemates were treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet of high-danger scoring chances. He also failed to preserve puck control in the Sabres zone early in the third period, leading to the Sabres’ fourth goal of the game. That may not sound like an exciting development, but it’s exactly what you want to see from the boisterous left winger.

'I want to dominate,' Canadiens' Slafkovsky says of rookie tournament (National Post)

The 6-foot-3 winger weighed 227 pounds at the development camp in July, but tipped the scales at 238 pounds during physical on Wednesday.

He had six goals and 11 assists in 17 games with Kitchener before being traded to Hamilton, where he posted identical scoring stats in 33 games. “I’ll lose some of it when we start playing, but I’m happy with my conditioning,” said Slafkovsky. The 6-foot-3 winger weighed 227 pounds when the Canadiens held their development camp in July and, after a summer of lifting weights, he tipped the scales at 238 pounds when the youngsters underwent physicals Wednesday in Montreal. 1 overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, but he appeared relaxed as he fielded questions from the media and said he was looking forward to “finally playing a game.” “I want to dominate,” Slafkovsky said after the Canadiens’ prospects unlimbered with a 40-minute morning skate at the KeyBank Center rink. Hammond was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Ottawa Senators in 2013, and made his NHL debut that same year for the team. Buffalo Sabres vs. Canadiens: Post-Game Opinions – Prospects ... (Sabre Noise)

The Buffalo Sabres faced the Montreal Canadiens to kick off the 2022 Prospects challenge and they took it, 4-3 in a comeback win.

Montreal outshot the Sabres 42-27, and I would have liked to see the Sabres to have seen more time in the offensive zone. Despite this, his agility was bar-none, and if he finds a way to get rid of the puck sooner, he will be a playmaker in the AHL this season. Later in the game, Kozak increased the Sabres lead to two when he scored a shorthanded goal. Lindgren pulled off a perfect pass to Kozak, who sat just in front of the net and did the rest. Overall, he passed the test and I’m looking forward to him not only continuing to play a sound defensive game, but to continue displaying his ability to lead. The Buffalo Sabres prospects pool lived up to their name in a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens prospects.

He has talent to be an NHL player with his offensive skills, but unless he brings that level up in other parts of his game, his ceiling might be limited. The drawback with Xhekaj’s style of play is that his hyper-aggressiveness tends to leave him in no man’s land, and his defence partner scrambling to cover more ice. He shifts his weight to get heavy velocity behind the shot, and picks his spot well. The bruising, nasty blue-liner comes exactly as advertised; there wasn’t a single Sabres player he didn’t want to punish with a hit. The result is a non-factor in the grand scheme of things, but the competition helps provide a glimpse at many prospects before they head back to their Junior leagues and beyond. Overall, it’s not hard to see why the Canadiens’ front office loved Beck, and he might end up being a steal in due time.

2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Outlook: Montreal Canadiens (The Hockey News)

It's going to be a rough season again for the Montreal Canadiens, but don't ignore them for your fantasy hockey team.

Beyond Caufield and Suzuki, who are mid-tier fantasy options at this point in their careers, the Habs don’t offer a lot. Even as an option for streaming starts, Allen is a gut-wrenching play and only worthwhile if the Habs are on a hot streak. Jake Allen is expected to be the starter with Carey Price starting the season on LTIR, and he will be one of the few starting goalies who won’t be drafted in most standard leagues. It’s a good bet the Habs will finish bottom-three in goals allowed once again the season after setting the record for most goals allowed per game in the cap era. For a team that isn’t expected to score a lot of goals, Drouin is about as good as you can get from the Habs, who are projected to have only two players score more than 60 points, according to THN’s Pool Guide. Losing Philip Danault to the Kings and losing Shea Weber and Carey Price to injury was a devastating hit to a team that depended on them as the defensive backbone.
