Werewolf by Night

Marvel Studios officially revealed the Werewolf by Night-centric Halloween Special at D23.

The MCU is truly expanding into more different storytelling styles than it ever has in the past, and this will hopefully set Werewolf by Night up for a long future in the supernatural side of the MCU's adventures. Throw in Marvel's first lycanthrope alongside monster hunters and other monsters of all variations, and the stage is set for something that will capture the spirit of Halloween from Marvel Studios. This short trailer confirms that the special will be unlike anything fans have ever seen before in the MCU. This will likely be the same thing that happens with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. But with only a couple of months until the Halloween special would likely premiere on Disney+, there has been no confirmation about its development or release from the Marvel Studios brass. The trailer also seemingly includes Time Variance Authority Minutemen, who were first seen in last year's Loki on Disney+.

In the Marvel comics, Russell hailed from Transylvania and descended from a line of lycanthropy-affected ancestors. García Bernal will seemingly play the original version of the character Werewolf by Night, who was named — no giggling, please — Jack Russell. Marvel Studios will celebrate spooky season with a new Halloween-themed special coming to Disney Plus called Werewolf by Night.

It helps that it was in black and white which only added to the nostalgic vibe it was going for. The trailer was a thrilling love letter to classic monster movies and the horror genre in general. While the brilliantly stylized trailer was very inspired by the 50s and 60s Hammer era of horror, the poster is more in line with something you would see in a Classic Universal Monster film of the 40s.

Afflicted by a family curse that turns him into a ravenous beast, Jack struggles to keep his monstrous side in check while also trying to do some good in the world. The first Werewolf by Night trailer serves as an homage to Universal’s classic monster movies of the ‘30s and ‘40s, from the black-and-white color palette to the discordant musical score. And if the trailer for Werewolf by Night is any indication, the live-action version, played by Mexican acting great Gael García Bernal, will soon become a favorite among MCU fans.
