Stay tuned for a full review of the Apple Watch Series 8. That's not a knock to the Apple Watch Series 8, I did eventually try it on. On the side of the Apple Watch Series 8 you'll find the familiar digital crown and side button. The Apple Watch Series 8 features two new motion sensors inside, plus an improved gyroscope and accelerometer. With low power mode, the Apple Watch Series 8 can last up to 36 hours. Crash detection isn't a new Apple Watch Series 8 feature I hope anyone ever has to test, but regrettably car accidents happen. All the standout Apple Watch Series 8 upgrades are on the inside. The Apple Watch Series 8 has a long-time, wishlist feature of mine: low power mode. Whether you're trying to conceive or monitoring conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS,) predicted ovulation based on skin temperature readings through Apple Health and Apple Watch seem to make great use of the new sensor. I've already teased the new features, but let's take a closer look at the skin temperature sensor Apple is introducing in this update. [Apple Watch Series 7](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/apple-watch-7), sporting the curvier chassis and thinner display bezels that debuted last year. Otherwise, not much else is new, but that's on brand for what I've come to expect from the Apple Watch year after year.

Apple Watch SE is available in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, in midnight, starlight, and silver finishes, and is compatible with all bands. Both models are made with 100 percent recycled aluminum in the case, 100 percent recycled tungsten in the Taptic Engine, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. Powerful upgrades include the S8 SiP advanced dual-core processor, the same processor that is in Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, making it 20 percent faster than the previous generation, along with Crash Detection and international roaming. With Apple Watch Studio, Apple Watch Series 8 can be paired with any available band in the same collection. Apple Watch Hermès introduces two new bands: H Diagonal, which creates a sporty pattern of the Hermès H with hundreds of microperforations, and Gourmette Metal, which features a polished stainless steel chain and noir leather wrapping twice around the wrist. Apple Watch uses signals from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor to estimate when users are in REM, Core, or Deep sleep. Knowing when ovulation has occurred can be helpful for family planning, and Apple Watch Series 8 makes it easy and convenient by providing these estimates in the Health app. To enable Crash Detection, Apple developed an advanced sensor-fusion algorithm that leverages a new, more powerful gyroscope and accelerometer on Apple Watch, which now has the highest dynamic range accelerometer in any smartwatch. “Apple Watch Series 8 reinforces our commitment in these areas with the addition of pioneering technology, while Apple Watch SE brings advanced core features at a new starting price. Utilizing the new temperature-sensing capabilities in Apple Watch Series 8, users can receive retrospective ovulation estimates. The sensors in Apple Watch Series 8 sample the wrist temperature during sleep every five seconds and measure changes as small as 0.1° C. Apple Watch Series 8 features the beloved design of Apple Watch, including a large, Always-On Retina display and a strong crack-resistant front crystal.

Unfortunately, Samsung didn’t have a major use case for the temperature sensor at launch, promising that developers would find a way to utilise it in their own apps down the line.

The Apple Watch Ultra is set to launch after the base Apple Watch 8, despite both being available for pre-order now. Apple also claims it’s “twice as water resistant” as the base Apple Watch 8 which has a 50 The Watch 8 by comparison only features a quoted “all day” battery life. At the event Apple showed it being used to change sport when engaged in a multisport activity and activate a custom siren, which Apple claims is loud enough to be heard 80m away. The Ultra has a slightly different design. We’ll also update with our definitive verdict later in the year once we’ve had the two in for testing and have had a chance to check their features and performance in the real world.

When every Apple Watch that one can buy has car crash detection, it'll be a real swaying reason to join Apple's smartwatch camp, as this is a brilliant feature. This is still likely to be too low for some people, especially if you're wanting to track your body temperature overnight. Nothing really to talk about there, but there is now low power mode, which can extend the life up to 30 hours. That doesn't mean it's a bad design at all - it fits nicely on the wrist, the screen (an OLED affair) is clear and bright as before, and easily flips around under the finger. Another new feature, but not one that we can test at all, is the car crash detection feature. The Watch 8 comes in two finishes, stainless steel, and aluminum. We definitely prefer the look of the stainless steel, even though it is a lot more expensive at $749 / £779. thanks, inflation) - the Apple Watch Series 8 price has been set at $399 for GPS and $499 for cellular in the US. The battery life on the Watch 8 is the same as normal: 18 hours, but able to get to the night without too much of a worry. This will only work when in motion, so it's using GPS and connection to the iPhone to fully understand whether the wearer is in a car - think of this feature as something that brings peace of mind, rather than a dedicated reason to buy the new Watch 8. The Apple Watch 8 isn't changing much at all in terms of the design - the new colors are probably the most notable things in terms of the way the new Watch compares to the Apple Watch 7. In the UK, it starts from £419 and £529 GPS with cellular, with no AU pricing yet.
