Mental and tactical errors were the Saskatchewan Roughriders' undoing — again — on Sunday when they lost 20-18 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The sports world is ever-changing, as are the times. Yet, it was ultimately the Blue Bombers who captured a championship, one week after defeating Saskatchewan 20-13 at Mosaic Stadium. Lauther followed up with a 30-yarder but, even though points were scored, an opportunity was lost. A one-yard loss resulted. On first-and-five, Hickson ran for four yards to Winnipeg’s 21-yard line. The cost of Williams’ words was underlined when Fajardo’s second-down pass fell incomplete. Winnipeg was flagged only six times for 40 yards. At the very least, he should have had a 16th carry. Under no circumstances should he have had fewer than 20 carries. The Bombers, champions that they are, consistently and resourcefully manufacture what is required in order to emerge victorious. In a different year, a different situation, perhaps some solace could be extracted from being competitive with the league’s dominant year. Article content
