US Open Day 8 Men's Predictions Including Nadal vs Tiafoe (Last Word on Baseball)

ay 8 of the US Open will see the end of the fourth round, and four men's matches will determine the last four quarterfinalists. Who will win?

Tiafoe should be his biggest challenge by far, the 24-year-old yet to drop a set in wins over Marcos Giron, Jason Kubler and Diego Schwartzman. Nadal had two shaky patches in his first two matches and then redlined his game against Gasquet in round 3. This is close to a coin flip for me but I believe Norrie has the fitness and time-on-court advantage to outlast the Russian in a long, grueling match. The 33-year-old has looked solid in his run so far, defeating Dan Evans in four sets in his last match but has lost to Alcaraz twice earlier this season in Miami and Cincinnati. That said, Alcaraz has beaten Cilic twice in straight-sets on hard courts over the past six months. Currently 16th in the Singles Race to Turn, Marin Cilic has had a revival season in 2022.

And Tiafoe seems up to the challenge, as he fired the Spaniard a spirited warning ahead of their showdown on Arthur Ashe Stadium. “I’m definitely a different player from 2019, playing much better,” the 24-year-old said, referencing their previous two meetings which came at the Australian Open and Madrid Masters more than three years ago. “I mean, you've seen him so much,” he explained. But he will have a huge task on his hands if he is to make a career-best showing in New York, as he takes on second seed Nadal on Monday. He'll need to display the same tenacity against the Spaniard if he is to have a shot at winning. 1 has shown that despite the deficiencies that might be plaguing his game, he's going to fight to the bitter end. Tiafoe trailed 2-0 but won three games in a row to go 3-2 up. Nadal secured a break of serve towards the end of the set. The American then bagged the next three games to claim the set. He even had three more set points in the tie-break, but Tiafoe dug deep to come out on top to win it. Frances Tiafoe reached the third round with wins over Marcos Giron and Jason Kubler, where he took on 14th seed Diego Schwartzman. He even managed to get back on serve after dropping his serve at the start of the set. He closed out the proceedings with ease in the following game to win the match 6-0, 6-1, 7-5. The second set also featured quite a few momentum shifts. With a perfect 17-0 winning record against him, the Spaniard would've been relieved to be up against an opponent he has dominated for so long after a couple of tough outings. The Frenchman stepped up his game in the third set, becoming more aggressive with his shots and attacking weak serves.

“It was just a strong hit. [I’ve done it before] with a golf club, but not with a tennis racquet.” The only shock came when, as Nadal stretched to play a backhand, his racquet bounced off the court and struck him in the face.
