If Eddie Howe is in the process of trying to transform a workmanlike side into an exciting one, then he can should look to Patrick Vieira for the blueprint. Brentford and Leeds have both spent the opening month of the season trying and failing to find their level. And Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are both fresh from taking almighty shellackings, and their combined scoreline from the last week would be a 17-1 defeat. Both have handed out tonkings to heavyweights; both have come up short against the mid-rankers. It was a good game, with play racing from end to end during a high-intensity second half, and Liverpool with be the more frustrated side having knocked hard on the door and forced Jordan Pickford into a string of second-half saves. I wonder what the record is for the latest first goal in a PL matchweek…” After denying in-form Spurs a win on Wednesday, West Ham will fancy their chances of doing the same in against out-of-form Chelsea. Kári Tulinius writes in: “I’m keeping a wistful eye on Saša Kalajdžić’s debut for Wolves, as my club – and his former – Stuttgart chase their first win of the season against Schalke. He completes his hat-trick with a wonderfully composed finish, rounding Illan Meslier and lofting the ball home for his fifth of the season. Devante Cole turns home to put Barnsley the lead at Hillsborough in the League One Yorkshire derby. Illan Meslier keeps Leeds in the game at Brentford with a one-on-one save from Keane Lewis-Potter. Almost immediately, Bryan Mbeumo restores the hosts two-goal lead only to see it ruled out for offside.

Still got on the scoresheet, though, to give Spurs a nervy finish. Not entirely his fault due to wave after wave of Spurs attack. Not perfect, giving the ball away when Spurs almost scored a second, but the type of defensive midfielder Fulham need. Joao Palhinha: Doesn’t shy away from getting stuck in and Fulham will need that in their bid to stay up. Tim Ream: Huge first-half block to deny Son, and denied Kane as Spurs looked to extend their lead in the second half. Tosin Adarabioyo: A towering presence at the back and did his best to quell Spurs’ front three of Kane, Son and Richarlison. Bernd Leno: Got down to just about keep out Kane’s effort but couldn’t keep Hojbjerg’s effort out. Richarlison: First start for Spurs, and was lively from the off, doing brilliantly to set up Son for a decent opportunity 22 minutes in. Got the assist for Kane’s goal, capping off a fine performance, and almost had another before Richarlison’s goal was ruled out for offside. Cristian Romero: Picked up a customary yellow card for a heavy challenge on Pereira. Then made a flying stop to keep out Mitrovic’s deflected effort – make that two deflected Mitrovic strikes, the second in the 89th minute. It was a bolt from the blue, but Spurs held on.

There was a very good chance for Mitro to equalise but I have to be honest, Tottenham deserved the three points." "When he needs to make a statement in a game, he is always there," added Silva. "I probably repeat the same thing every week," he added with a smile. Indeed, the shot-stopping is only one part of his offering. They give us a lot of quality and a lot of danger for the opponent. Richarlison held his head in his hands, but only for a second. Richarlison, the ultimate Conte player, will fight to make sure of it. "If someone thinks that we cancelled everything and we are at the same level of the other top teams, I think this is not realistic. "Now I think we are doing good things, but it's really soon to give a realistic judgement in my opinion. We scored, but the goals were disallowed and we hit the bar. Tottenham vs Fulham recap: Spurs got goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as Antonio Conte's side extended its unbeaten start to six games.
Fulham were busy late in the transfer window as Willian and Layvin Kurzawa will be key additions to their squad. Eric Dier is having a decent start to the season and has stepped up with Cristian Romero being out injured in recent weeks. Sure, there will be some assists to go around for corner kicks and free kicks delivered to his forehead, but most of Fulham’s attack consists of Mitrovic going one on one (or two or three), trying to create a few inches of space to unleash a heavy strike that’s only going in if it’s placed absolutely perfectly in the bottom corner. They look the best of the new boys and they already have eight points on the board this season. No longer forced to carry a relegation-threatened side as the main striker, the Brazilian has injected energy and intensity into a side which sometimes lacked those key intangibles in the past. The second goal came a bit later (the 75th) than Conte would have liked, but it proved vital as Aleksandar Mitrovic terrorized Cristian Romero in the final 15 minutes, scoring once and so nearly leveling the score at 2-2.
MATT BARLOW: Another game another record for Harry Kane as he scored the winner to move level with Thierry Henry at the top of the charts for Premier League ...
There was still time for Richarlison to find the net for what would have been his first Tottenham goal. Lenglet was making his first start for Spurs, one of five changes by Conte after the midweek draw at West Ham. Still, Fulham did not have substitute Kevin Mbabu ready to replace Robinson and for 10 minutes the ball was barely in play. Hojbjerg linked up with Richarlison in a crowded penalty area and forced right-footed shot low past Leno. We must keep delivering for him because he has the ability to do it.' Son hit the bar, released by a Kane pass clipped over the centre-halves. 'He's in a very good moment. Many times, players with talent ldidn't like to work for the team without the ball. Clement Lenglet glanced a header into the side-netting from a corner. Only with the ball. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his sixth goal of the season to inspire a late comeback for Fulham 'He is fantastic technically and he works for the team, with and without the ball.

Aleksandar Mitrovic rifled home his sixth goal of the season to flatter Fulham late on but Spurs would not be denied a fourth win from their opening six games.
But his joy was shortlived with VAR ruling the goal out for offside, as Spurs had to settle for a one-goal margin of victory which did not really do them justice. Spurs were swarming all over their opponents and it almost paid off when Richarlison, on his first start for the club, pulled the ball back for Son but his fierce strike was deflected to safety. Leno continued to keep Fulham in with a whisker of hope after stopping Son’s deflected strike. It was an early warning for Fulham and it already had the look of a long afternoon for the promoted visitors. The striker’s 188th Premier League goal moved him past Andy Cole in the history books. Antonio Conte led Spurs into the Champions League with a surge last season and this win stretched their run of league games without defeat to 12 matches.
Six games unbeaten to start the season for Spurs, who continue to look solid but not yet dominant.

Here is how we rated the Tottenham team in the Premier League 2-1 win against Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Found the net with an inswinging cross early on but goal was ruled out for offside, before then hitting the crossbar after linking up extremely well with Kane ten minutes before half-time. Finally handed a start after some really positive displays off the bench and impressed throughout with some brilliant play and his hard work. Netted the opener with some really good midfield play as he burst towards the box and linked up with Richarlison before finding the bottom corner. Returned after missing out at West Ham and Spurs looked much better for having him in the middle with his calm play. However, played a key role in the opener with some determined play in the far corner to help Tottenham win the ball which led to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg netting. Handed his full Tottenham bow and looked calm and composed on the ball coming out from the back.
