The 2020 quarter-finalist blasted winners from all angles throughout the third-round match, but was unable to find one final push in the Match Tie-break. It was a fairly fast-paced match that went the full distance finishing just over four hours in the favour of Rublev 6-4 2-6 6-7(3) 6-4 7-6(7).

Super tiebreak followed and Rublev used his 5th match point to finally seal the deal. The 3rd set was a proper battle with both players having many chances but neither converting them. The 2nd set was much better by Shapovalov who smacked Rublev with hyper-aggressive play and the Russian was unable to counter in a good way.
