Southampton 0 Manchester United 1 (Manchester United)

Manchester United earned the first away victory of the season by defeating Southampton 1-0 in the Premier League's early Saturday game.

Back to Back wins… Prior to the match, the Saints had rescued four points from losing positions in their previous two outings and were looking to repeat a turnaround. Armstrong 63), A. United stormed out of the blocks after the interval, heaping early pressure on the home side and were rewarded 10 minutes following the restart. However, the best opportunity fell to Armel Bella-Kotchap. A Diogo Dalot cross caused mayhem in the penalty area as the Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu and his defence somehow frantically denied Bruno Fernandes the chance to head home, before thwarting Anthony Elanga, Fernandes again and then Christian Eriksen – all from around the six-yard box.

Fernandes seals tight win for resurgent Manchester United at ... (The Guardian)

Bruno Fernandes's sweetly struck finish early in the second half gave Manchester United a 1-0 win against Southampton in a keenly contested match.

The referee was looking directly at the incident but his view was possibly concealed by McTominay, who appeared to juggle the ball with both his left and right hands before swatting it away in the box. It is a new way of playing and [there are] a lot of new facts. We started from the first day of pre-season to get that in and now the window is not closed so every time a new player is in we have to inform them about the rules. First Fernandes miscued a header from a Diogo Dalot cross under pressure from Walker-Peters and from there another barmy few seconds in the United chronicles ensued. Tyrell Malacia was bright, Christian Eriksen was typically classy at the base of midfield and, for all of the flak that came his way following the dismal defeats by Brentford and Brighton, Lisandro Martínez was gallant in defence. More new faces are expected too, with Ten Hag keen on signing a backup goalkeeper and a reunion with the Ajax forward Antony, who has made clear his desire to depart the Eredivisie club.

Five things we learned as Manchester United defeat Southampton 1 ... (SPORTbible)

Five things we learned after Manchester United emerge victorious against Southampton with Bruno Fernandes scoring the sole goal.

Ten Hag quickly proved his doubters wrong with his tactical setup against Liverpool, and today he switched Sancho's wing from Monday's victory. He will certainly be a key player for Ten Hag going forwards. This spells the question: How do Luke Shaw and club captain Harry Maguire earn their spots back in this team? This could be a sign that Ten Hag will make plenty of minor tweaks and adaptations across the season, whilst continuing to work within his framework and this is what United need. His signing will have fans even more excited after today's cameo. Regardless of the answer, the headache is a good one for Ten Hag to have.

Southampton vs Manchester United: Red Devils secure back-to ... (NBC Sports)

Manchester United beat Southampton at St Mary's thanks to a wonderful team move finished off by Bruno Fernandes, as they finally won on the road.

United will be buoyed by their big win against Liverpool but Erik ten Hag knows they must be consistent and back up their derby win with victories against Southampton and Leicester before they face Arsenal on Sept. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start on the bench once again with Anthony Martial probably starting up front with Marcus Rashford on the left and Jadon Sancho on the right. Defensively the duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were also sublime, while left back Tyrell Malacia was also dominant on his first Premier League start. United upped the tempo at the start of the second half and a fine team move down the right with slick passing found one of Bruno Fernandes’ marauding runs as he finished off a lovely cross. United and Southampton both played long in the first half as they were direct on the bobbly pitch at St Mary’s. Trailing 2-0 at home against Leeds in week 2, they fought back to grab a point and they fought back from a goal down to win at Leicester. 30 and Manchester United travel to Leicester City on Thursday, Sept. Saints pressed high after going behind and United sat in deep to show off their newfound spirit and resilience and they held on. Now all they need to do is find a talented young striker to give them more of a cutting edge in the final third. They played with no fear and early in the season the talent level of this Southampton side looks higher than last season. Somehow VAR looked at the incident but nothing was given and United can feel very lucky they didn’t concede a penalty kick. Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Raphael Varane were all solid and David de Gea came up with a big save when he was needed.
