Between Hogwarts Legacy, Sonic Frontiers, a possible Elden Ring DLC, and even more, Gamescom has a packed schedule for the 2022 showcase.
[Nintendo will not be at Gamescom](https://gamerant.com/nintendo-skipping-gamescom-2022-direct/), opting instead to present games at a few smaller conventions. [Saints Row releases tomorrow](https://gamerant.com/saints-row-review/), just hours before Opening Night Live, and will be featured heavily by the publisher in its exhibition. It did not announce what games will be presented, but fans are widely expecting a DLC expansion for Elden Ring to be featured. [the success of Elden Ring](https://gamerant.com/elden-ring-reviews-highest-rated-game-ever-made/), Bandai Namco has quickly become one of the fastest-rising publishers in the industry. With Sonic having a cultural renaissance thanks to the recent movies, Sega is counting on Sonic Frontiers to be its next big hit. Gamescom is one of the biggest events of the year for gamers.

The annual Gamescom convention returns to Cologne, Germany in full force for 2022. We can’t wait to play it, and we won’t have to wait long: the game is dropping on November 8. Expect more of the same epic space shooting, this time in a new cyberpunk-esque city and a grappling hook to swing around it in. We’re getting a new look at upcoming horror game The Callisto Protocol, this time focused on all the nasty ways your enemies can mutate during battle. Moonbreaker is a colorful turn-based strategy game developed by the folks behind Subnautica and with a story by renowned author Brandon Sanderson. Lies of P is an intriguing steampunk action game that looks to feature some interesting weapons and body modifications. Blacktail is a first-person fantasy action game that has you explore a treacherous forest, and it looks like your decisions may impact the story. It looks pretty fun too, with a giant tongue that you can use as a grappling hook and the ability to deflect enemy shots that come your way. Online role-playing title Genshin Impact is one of the most popular games out there right now, and it’s still getting plenty of updates. We’re getting a new look at the sci-fi title’s zero-gravity gameplay, which looks more in-depth than the point-and-click adventure games we’re used to seeing from the developer. A game we never thought would actually come out, the long-awaited sequel to the popular zombie action game is dropping in February. And if you want to see all of the news from the big show, check out the entirety of our live blog below. We’re curious how well a zombie game will do in 2023 given how saturated the genre is, but the based on the gameplay trailer, it looks like wildly fun time that will let you get truly creative in how you dispose of zombies.
Gamescom 2022 is here and the Opening Night Live showcase brings Harry Potter Legacy and Sonic Frontiers trailers.
The news came at the end of a punchy new trailer: Take a look at it in the trailer below: The Ottomans and Malians expansion adds both armies to the game on October 25. The game is called Everywhere and according to an on-stage interview with Adam Whiting, the game's assistant game director, it will be a world where you "share" and "create". We'll surely be hearing more about how the armies work in the coming weeks. We expect Sony to reveal more details soon, but for the moment, we can just take solace in the fact that it looks properly gorgeous. Age of Empires 4, Company of Heroes 3, the Command & Conquer remaster, and now Homeworld 3, too. While details of publisher Funcom's game are sparse, the trailer does reveal that it will be an open-world survival MMO. All of which suggests the game is about ready to make a reappearance. What better place to come back from the dead than at a massive games convention? We've been promised a deeper look at The Callisto Protocol in tonight's show and I'm hoping that means some uninterrupted in-game footage instead of a jumpscare-filled trailer. The showcase will last for two hours and will feature over 30 games, including new footage of

There's swish swordplay from a masked character in a plush theatre: is this a Phantom Of The Opera video game? Play as the Ottomans (and also the Malians, I guess, although the Ottomans do rather hog the limelight in this trailer) in a new free DLC for Age Of Empires IV. Is our hero about to fight a god at the end of that trailer? Darktide is a co-op FPS spin-off set in the grimdark future of Warhammer 40k. Next up we got a new look at Park Beyond, the upcoming amusement park building and simulation game from Limbic Entertainment. Hot on the heels of a message from a real-life astronaut about all the cool recent and upcoming games set in space, we have a trailer for Stranded: Alien Dawn, which is heading into Early Access this October. Published by no less than Gearbox (they of Borderlands fame) and developed by Blackbird Interactive (the studio behind Minecraft spin-off titles Earth and Legends), this trailer promises to be made up of 100% in-game footage, a particularly welcome surprise given the regular shifts between cinematic action and pulled-back strategic unit shuffling. I particularly like the one of the player being thrown backwards and falling through the floor. A follow-up to the story-based Borderlands spin-off born from the sadly defunct development arm of Telltale Games, the confusingly titled New Tales From The Borderlands is being helmed by parent series developers Gearbox Software and looks set to deliver on everything we love about the series. I'm always well up for more Borderlands and/or more narrative adventure games, so a bit of both is bound to hit the spot. According to Build A Rocket Boy President Leslie Benzies, the game is a place “where players can meet, have fun and create their own story.” “Our intention has always been to push the boundaries of what a video game can be while still providing an innovative player-first experience. It seems like Everywhere is an open-world game and the multiplayer experience appears to be at the heart of the project.

As my colleague Matt Brown said, Gamescom is generally quieter than E3. You can watch the trailer for Dune: Awakening [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anZtoPo2Fpw). The end of the gameplay trailer also revealed that preorders for the game will go live on August 25 at 8 a.m. Lies of P is a highly-anticipated Soulslike that blends Victorian and steampunk aesthetics with a story that's inspired heavily by the story of Pinocchio. The title, now slated to launch on September 19, brings back the adventure series with a refreshed art style and various updates for the modern age. [The Expanse: A Telltale Series](https://www.windowscentral.com/telltale-returns-expanse-narrative-game) in late 2021 and early 2022, and now, we've finally got to see some gameplay of the latter. [Gotham Knights](https://www.windowscentral.com/gotham-knights) made an appearance during Opening Night Live with a new "Villains" trailer, showing off some of the threats that players will encounter in the game. Based on the additional [gameplay trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEkkrJpI6XA) that was shown, it looks like players can expect everything they loved from the original Dead Island games, including physics-heavy melee combat, eccentric characters, and a whole lot of gore. The game can be preordered now for $20, and is available on Xbox Series X Dawkins also announced that there will be an "interesting" indie game shown during the showcase that he believes will be a secret contender for the Game of the Year Award. Windows Central Senior Editor Matt Brown and contributor Brendan Lowry are providing updates and commentary on the show throughout the week, with additional insight from our Senior Xbox Editor, Jez Corden, straight from the show floor. Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge will also arrive to make "a low level earthquake," and the show will also have "a Hollywood surprise!"
New footage from Dying Light 2 and Return to Monkey Island and more whet our appetite for, if you can believe it, a year of more games.

[at Gamescom today](https://www.youtube.com/c/thegameawards/videos). I approve of this gonzo game, which is by the creators of Friday the 13th. Action role-playing game Lords of the Fallen was first released in 2014, but almost a decade later, it’s back with a reboot, baby. Brief gameplay at the ends reveals the game to be a legit FPS with some sort of card or deck-building component. The indie game about Baba Yaga, the Slavic witch my regular baba (it means grandma!) told me about when I was a kid to make me eat my figs (I had tummy issues), debuted a trailer showing off first-person archery and perhaps survival elements? The bit of gameplay near the ends looks very “Soulslike,” but if Souls had high-speed sand-surfing.
