"First, to be in the final of a 1000 event after so many years, and the scenario of today was just unbelievable," Garcia said. Garcia coolly closed out the rain-addled match to level her head-to-head against Sabalenka to 2-2. After another prolonged rain delay, Garcia held off a break chance for Sabalenka to hold to 4-1 and earned an insurance break by drawing a double-fault on break point to lead 5-2. Facing Sabalenka for the first time since 2018, Garcia overpowered Sabalenka through the first set, striking 13 winners to 3 unforced errors, while converting the two break points she earned. Since then, the former No.4 has quickly translated her winning ways to the singles court. Into her third WTA 1000 final and first since 2017, Garcia will face Petra Kvitova on Sunday.

WTA Cincinnati Final Prediction: Caroline Garcia vs Petra Kvitova (Last Word on Baseball)

Sunday in Cincinnati will feature the final on the WTA side, with a very unexpected matchup between two unseeded players to decide the title.

A final is, however, very different of course and Kvitova tends to perform very well in big finals (perhaps because with her style she can only reach finals when she’s in top form), with two wins in three at Slam level, one in two in WTA Finals and eight in 11 at WTA 1000 level. Garcia, on the other hand, had never even got past the third round at this tournament, coming into this week with a 5-7 record. This is a very surprising final to say the least.

In a match halted twice for extended periods by rain on Saturday evening, Garcia triumphed 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the semifinal that lasted two hours and five minutes, reports DPA. The two-time Wimbledon champion battled to a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3 victory in two hours and 18 minutes. Garcia needed her left arm bandaging when trailing 5-4 in the second set, forcing Sabalenka to endure a long wait to serve to level the match. In the earlier match, Kvitova fended off home favourite Keys to secure a return to the world’s top 20. A two-and-a-half-hour rain delay halted Garcia’s progress at 1-1 in the second set, and it was Sabalenka who returned the strongest from the break. She had to come through qualifying to earn a place in the Cincinnati main draw and looked like racing past Sabalenka after taking the opening set in impression fashion.
