Nintendo featured a new Direct showcase highlighting all the new features coming to Splatoon 3, including the return of the online multiplayer Splatfest ...
Splatfest, Splatoon’s recurring online multiplayer event, also returns with a new broadcast team called Deep Cut. This time, instead of having only two colored teams to choose from, there will be three, with a tricolor Turf War match to settle the Splatfest results. Splatoon 3 will also let you engage in Turf War without spilling a single drop of paint. It also teased big paid DLC expansions, but there’s no word yet on when to expect the first one to drop. They don’t appear to be unlocked via microtransactions, and through a special citizen of Splatsville, you can add any trait to your favorite piece of clothing. Splatoon 3 will feature some new weapons designed to assist in this long-simmering color war. With Splatoon 3 right around the corner, Nintendo’s released the most in-depth look at what to expect from the closest thing to an esport that the company actually still cares about.
The latest Nintendo Direct revealed weapons, maps, and the return of Splatfests.
A new yellow Inkling, blue Octoling, and Smallfry Amiibo are coming before the end of the year. You place cards to control the board in a 2D, turn-based spin-off of Turf War. There are over 150 cards to collect, and you can battle other NPCs to collect packs. The game will also get major paid DLC expansions, but Nintendo isn’t sharing more on that just yet. Where previous games had two, Splatoon 3 will have an extra host for the fanart crowd to go wild with. Most of this stuff can be bought from the Hotlantis shop which will get regular updates. Around that time new weapons will also be rolled out. And the Memory Player will let you relive recent wins or shake your head at your worst losses. Nintendo spent most of the presentation going deep into new shops and customization options. Splatoon 3 comes out September 9, and with only a month left to go fans finally got a long-overdue deep dive into what to expect from the latest entry in the paintball-inspired online shooter. Friends will appear as 3D holograms and you can easily drop in on them in battle. And we haven’t even gotten to the swole crustacean yet. The game’s main 4 vs.
"Splatoon 3" for Nintendo Switch revealed the new trio of idols in Deep Cut, featuring Shiver, Frye, and a happy manta ray named Big Man.
Will Splatfest become a thing of the past when everyone in the community naturally gravitates toward supporting whatever position the charming manta ray is repping? Splatoon 3 introduces a neat new twist to the Splatfest and a big hint is right there in the title. Competition is at the heart of each event, with teams facing off in Splatoon's flagship "Turf Wars" mode, a 4v4 showdown in which opposing squads vie to paint more of the map with their team-colored ink than the other crew. Deep Cut's arrival in Splatoon 3 means there are now three idols repping each Splatfest competition — which, by extension, means there will be three teams — and it's poised to have a dramatic impact on the shape of these showdowns. Nintendo revealed Big Man, along with his fellow Deep Cut (that's the band name) members Frye and Shiver, alongside a hefty dump of new information ahead of Splatoon 3's Sept. 9 release. Big Man is one of the three "idols" who will deliver important game news to players in Nintendo's upcoming Switch sequel, Splatoon 3.
Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct offered a ton of new details on the Nintendo Switch game. Here's a roundup of everything Nintendo announced.
Players can try out all of Splatoon 3’s new and returning weapons in the Test Range, or jump into a battle with (or against) a friend by checking in on their hologram. There are 150 cards to collect in Splatoon 3, and players will build out a deck to battle others. X Battle is unlocked after attaining an extremely high rank in Splatoon 3’s Anarchy Battle — a competitive, objective-based ranked mode — and League Battle will let players compete every two hours in teams based on their Anarchy Battle results. The fashionable Inklings and Octolings of the Splatlands will have plenty of fresh styles to wear in Splatoon 3. These include the Tacticooler, a refrigerator full of stat-boosting beverages; the Wave Breaker, a sonic emitter that deals damage in a circular wave; and the Reefslider, a shark-shaped float that blows up and splatters ink everywhere. Here’s a rundown of everything new and confirmed for Splatoon 3 from that Nintendo Direct.
Also, a free Splatfest demo will kick off on Switch later this month.
Splatoon 3's first Splatfest will be available before launch; a free demo will be downloadable starting on August 18, with the actual event running from 12:00 p.m. ET to 12:00 a.m. ET on August 27. First, there’s a poll: in the case of Splatoon 3's inaugural Splatfest, rock, paper, or scissors? But in a series first, Nintendo said in a press release you’ll be able to catch their announcements “on the go while exploring.”
In case you missed it, Nintendo hosted another Direct today, this time focusing on the upcoming Splatoon sequel. During the 30-minute presentation, we got ...
We also got our first look at the Splatoon 3 in-game card game which sees players take part in a Turf Wars spin-off game called Tableturf Battle. It’s also been revealed that Splatoon 3 is getting "large-scale paid DLC" alongside two years of free updates. Big Man is just one of the three members of the Splatfest group Deep Cut which is also made up of Frye the eel master and Shiver the shark tamer. One new face that has charmed fans in particular though is Big Man the Manta Ray.

Big Manta - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtMOAvOWTvY What was the best part of the Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct yesterday...
We don't blame people — he's just a big, happy manta ray, and we all need a bit more of that in our lives. Joining the Octoling Shiver and Inkling Frye is one very big manta ray — Big Man. We've never seen anyone happier to just exist, really. The Splatfests? The card game?
With a new Splatoon game coming soon, it means our Turf War and Ranked Battle sessions will be taking place on a limited number of maps.
You’ll be able to visit and ink these maps for yourself when Splatoon 3 releases on Friday, September 9th. The original Splatoon maxed out at 17 stages, whereas Splatoon 2 stopped at 24 (not including all the variants of the Shifty Station stages used during Splatfests and the Salmon Run only maps). Hopefully, Splatoon 3 will be in the 20-something range, if not more. With a new Splatoon game coming soon, it means our Turf War and Ranked Battle sessions will be taking place on a limited number of maps.
Returning players to the Splatoon franchise will earn some immediate rewards when they log in to Splatoon 3, according to new information.

Rather, Nintendo is giving some extra bonuses to players of Splatoon 2 when they log into the third game. Also, players will be able to join Splatoon 3's Anarchy Battles, which is the new name for Splatoon 2's Ranked Battles mode, as soon as they launch the game.

Splatoon 3 will give players the ability to draw small cartoons (or write words, or post memes) and have them be visible in Splatsville to other players… The single-player Story Mode is perfect for new players to learn the inky ropes, and it concerns the Octarian Army, a group of weird, hairy fishies. You can now see your friends in the lobby as ghosts, which allows you to join their matches, watch what they’re doing, and mess around with them before a match begins. You can change your nickname, too (and be warned, your ID number will change with it) — but "you'll have to wait a bit before changing it again", according to the Splatoon website. New weapons will be added at the same time. Your locker, which will appear in the lobby of players you’ve recently played with, can also be customised to display weapons, objects, photos, and more. A new mode in Splatoon 3, where players can ditch the ink for cards. In theory, a rank will drop by 2 from the highest rank the player has achieved. The S+0 to S+9 crew will drop to S, and anyone above that will revert to S+0. Nintendo appears to have run out of two-sided battles to pit Splatoon players against each other, as the new Turf Wars gimmick in Splatoon 3 is three-sided battles. You can also change the emote that your character does upon winning a match. You'll have to return it at the end, but you'll get Super Sea Snails in return, with the number you receive based on your rank.
Curious about the Splatoon 3 Demo? Whether you're new to Splatoon, or a veteran, we've got an Inkling that you'll find our guide helpful.
Both parts of the event last for 6 hours each, so be sure to make the most of your time with the game. Though the demo can be downloaded from August 18 onwards, you won't be able to access the tutorial until August 25. Once you're confident in your inking skills, you'll be ready to take on the Splatfest special event that's taking place on August 27. On August 27, a Splatoon 3 demo will be available for free on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop. The test will be packaged as a Splatfest World Premiere event. During the first half of the event, you'll be able to engage in inky battle across the tried and tested four vs. On this page, you'll see a link to the demo.
