“But if he can stay on that side of the field with authority, he’s in good shape.” “Being in the right frame of mind,” he said. “Being in the moment. “It’s when you’re out of the strike zone, like any hitter, is when you’re going to struggle. He’ll probably find his way into the game at some point today.” “And I’m seeing the ball well.” “I think my biggest strength is hitting the ball the other way,” Bichette said. From his vantage point in the dugout, the interim manager likes what he sees. On Wednesday afternoon, Bichette said those home runs in the Blue Jays’ 6-5 loss are a sign that his swing is where it needs to be. If anyone benefits from the postponement, it’s the Blue Jays, who will likely have George Springer back in the lineup when the game is made up. It’s three good teams and it’s three teams that are all fighting for a playoff spot. They also lost Springer, Ross Stripling and Tim Mayza to the injured list during that stretch, so to some observers it felt like more than a 10-day trip.

Orioles tied for wild card after rainout with Blue Jays (The Washington Post)

The Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays have been rained out in what was supposed to be the finale of their three-game series.

... But the thing that jumps out is the pitching for sure — both starters I think being a little bit more efficient, and their bullpen’s been really good all year.” “It’s three good teams, and it’s three teams that are all fighting for a playoff spot. There are still four more scheduled series between them, including two in Baltimore. The Orioles and Blue Jays will now play a single-admission doubleheader in Baltimore on Sept. 5. There was a 78-minute rain delay Tuesday night in a game the Orioles won 6-5. Then the finale of the three-game set was washed out and never started. Neither team could control the weather, which was a factor throughout this series.

And yet despite dropping both games in Baltimore this week, the Blue Jays are playing well. The Blue Jays already had Thursday off. The Blue Jays had their series finale against the Orioles at Camden Yards postponed Wednesday night due to persistent thunderstorms in the Baltimore area. “Three cities is tough, and it was against three teams that are fighting for a playoff spot. They left Baltimore on Wednesday night two games up on the Rays and the surprising Orioles, who moved into a tie for the third spot by virtue of Tampa Bay’s loss in Milwaukee earlier in the day. Two of those games will now happen on the same day.

That sucked,” summed up manager John Schneider. “The rain delay hurt the little momentum we had."

Bradley is from Virginia, just across the state border from Maryland and his family quickly hopped in the car to be at Camden Yards for Tuesday’s debut as an eighth inning defensive replacement. If we like the match-up, it could be a bit of both (the left-handed hitting Bradley starting or coming off the bench).” “He’s ready for anything we throw at him,” Schneider said of the newcomer. In the fourth, Odor was run down trying for third on a hit-and-run, thwarted by a good Lourdes Gurriel Jr. toss after a Urias single dropped in. But he made some of his big pitches count, three inning-ending strikeouts, while team defence did the rest. Berrios was scheduled to start tonight’s game against the O’s, but now he will lead off the Cleveland series, which will be played at home. Berrios has had an unbelievably inconsistent season, which can be chopped up to an anomaly, considering he has been one of the MLB’s most consistent pitchers since he entered the league. Key position players and bullpen arms can recover from a long road trip as the team heads back to Toronto. However, with this game being moved into September and the Orioles being a playoff threat, it means the Jays could have some players coming back…or up. Some may call it a two-game sweep for Baltimore, others may wait for the make up game to be played. The make-up date is scheduled for September 5th, as the Jays and O’s will play a traditional double header. Some Jays fans may pay out of pocket to see “2021 season opener” Julian Merryweather appear in September if he’s back up and healthy.

Although the washout results in a technical series sweep by the Orioles, the Blue Jays are probably relieved to have two consecutive nights off to reset their bullpen as well as to give all of their starters some time off. The game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night was postponed due to rain. Zulueta last pitched in relief on August 2, leaving the game with no apparent discomfort.
