Week 9 Edmonton Elks Preview vs the BC Lions. (CFL News Hub)

The Edmonton Elks enter week 9 on the road in Vancouver, British Columbia to take on one of the best in the Canadian Football League in a matchup against ...

At a record of 2-5 heading into Vancouver, the Edmonton Elks have made a lot of games close with the only exception of the week 1 blowout 59-15 loss to the BC Lions, and in a Week 5 loss 49-6 vs the Calgary Stampeders. The BC Lions will most likely win this game, but the Edmonton Elks will make this game closer than football fans think. There is no doubt that when Kenny Lawler is on the field, he will give the best chance for the offense in sustaining drives. Coach Chris Jones will be looking to throw all the punches at the BC defensive front 7 in a way to gain momentum in this game vs the BC Lions. Ante Milanovic-Litre can be a key figure in moving the chains consistently to gain some much-needed yards to conduct long drives for the offense. At one point, a lot of Edmonton fans were not sure what direction the Elks will be heading from the beginning of the 2022 CFL season. But what Edmonton fans want is a team that will compete every week and or close to it to show signs of improvement going forward. Nevertheless, there have been shades of improvement by the Edmonton Elks which all things considered, have made the most at times with a depleted lineup.

BC Lions take on Edmonton Elks; Burnham returns to lineup (CTV News Vancouver)

Now healthy, Bryan Burnham is set to slot back into the Lions' lineup on Saturday when B.C. hosts the Edmonton Elks.

“I haven't forgotten what they did to us Week 1,” he said. The 34-year-old Alcorn State product needs just 69 yards to break into the league's top 30 all-time receivers. “He's done a real nice job over the last few weeks. “He's a good quarterback,” the coach said. “It seems like a long time ago, but also it's a very different looking team from Edmonton,” he said. “Me being a vet and being out there so much, I definitely see what some others don't,” Burnham said. “So we're gonna make sure that he's completely well before we put him back out there.” POCKET PROTECTORS: B.C.'s offensive line has been solid, allowing just six sacks across six games. And then the thing he's got to do is he's got to take care of the football.” Just being a friend, being a teammate. And it was fun.” THE CANADIAN PRESS/Rich Lam

The B.C. Lions quarterback put up 430 yards and five touchdowns. He missed three passes out of 37, making 23 straight until coming out late in the fourth ...

Olafioye, a.k.a. “Sugar Bear,” never missed a start with the Lions, suiting up in all 18 regular season contests from 2010-16 and then again in 2018. I am very lucky and will cherish this moment forever.” “They played Winnipeg tough, they’re not a terrible football team,” said Campbell. “We were assuming it was going to be a hard-fought battle and that’s how it came out of the gates. This time, the Lions went six plays and 51 yards — including a Rourke sneak for a yard inside three yards — with Dominque Rhymes capping the drive with a two-yard touchdown pass. But they couldn’t do much with it, and two plays and three yards later, wound up trying an ill-advised fake field goal that resulted in a turnover on downs. And I’ve been part of some great groups,” added Burnham. “But this group is something special.” “That’s a Bryan Burnham highlight reel catch. Sione Teuhema had two as well, his second multi-sack game of the year. He nailed his next 24 straight passes to finish 34-of-37 (91.9 per cent) — unofficially the third-highest single-game mark in league history for a minimum 20 pass attempts. Greatness comes in threes & 11 other thoughts on the B.C. Lions ... (3downnation.com)

The B.C. Lions dominated the Edmonton Elks by a score of 46-14 at BC Place on Saturday night, moving to 6-1 on the season. Here are my thoughts on the game.

They’ll have a chance to do so next week in Calgary but Rick Campbell wasn’t overly enthused about the prospect of talking about it. “We probably have a little bit of a different mindset going in this one,” he acknowledged. The Lions were widely accused of overpaying to bring Betts to Vancouver in free agency but the results have been overwhelmingly positive. I was also happy to see the team recognize long-time TSN broadcaster Farhan Lalji on the video board for 25 years of service. That had far more to do with the situation surrounding the Elks’ entire franchise than it did Betts’ talent but the team made little effort to retain their once-prized prospect in free agency nonetheless. B.C. handled his absence well, but this team is impossible to stop with Burnham in the lineup. While Rourke was lauded for the season opener, it was his running back James Butler who many saw as the star of that show. His lofty one-year deal will soon expire and the next offer he receives won’t be nearly as lucrative as a result. With the rest of the game being all Lions, maybe there is something to be said for getting the jitters out early. Saturday’s utter domination was impressive in its own right, but it deserves special attention for being the third in a trio of historic butt-kickings in BC Place dating back to last year’s season finale. I mean, this is the work he puts in every day, in the offseason, every day for the past couple weeks.” The poorly executed trickery was read perfectly by Edmonton and punter Stefan Flintoft threw the pass anyway, which was short of the sticks but miraculously not picked off.
