Since 2010, the Hall of Fame Game has averaged 29.5 points, with only three of the eight games featuring 31 points or more.
The Hall of Fame Game rarely turns into a shootout, and the under is 12-7 in the game since 2000. Springs has been solid this season, posting an ERA of 2.70 in 73.1 innings, but he began the year as a reliever before moving into the rotation. The weather forecast in New York tonight projects conditions that will be beneficial for the offenses, with two starting pitchers who are solid but not overly dominant in strikeouts. Finally, both are offenses are smoking the ball lately. That means we don't know who is available out of the pen tonight and for how long, and this poses a problem with Jeffrey Springs starting for Tampa tonight. That limits the offensive ceiling, as well as the playcalling. The first is that defense tends to come along quicker in training camp than offense. I don't know how often we'll be betting on preseason NFL games this month, but you're crazy if you thought we wouldn't be betting on the first preseason game of the season. Another factor to consider is that you won't see the best quarterbacks or skill position players on either roster play much tonight if they play at all. There are a few obvious reasons to bet the under tonight. We're putting money on the game! It's not an exciting tradition, but it's a tradition all the same.

Breech's pick: Raiders 20-13 over Jaguars (Raiders cover -2.5). Not only is this a homecoming game for McDaniels, but he's got a starting quarterback in Stidham who knows how to run his system. I think McDaniels will be more than comfortable letting Stidham sling the ball around, which means we might actually see a few points scored in this game (Hall of Fame games are almost never high-scoring). McDaniels went to Canton McKinley high school and he actually played his high school games in the same stadium where he'll be coaching in tonight. For Las Vegas, Josh McDaniels will be coaching his first game with the Raiders after spending the past 10 seasons on New England's sideline. If one kicker goes 0-for-3 and hits an innocent bystander with a kick, that might be enough for the Jags to give the job to the other guy. That was Andrew Mevisand he got dumped after a train wreck of a day at camp where he missed a field goal so badly, that he hit a bystander in the head (And that bystander was former Cowboyscoach Dave Campo). The Hall of Fame game is mostly going to be backups, but when it comes to kickers, there are no backups.
Tom Brady's NFL debut came 22 years ago in the Hall of Fame Game, with mop-up duty in the fourth quarter against his boyhood favorite 49ers.
“The story I always cite when I talk to friends who are following up on ‘You caught Brady’s first pass,’ is that I think I caught his first pass in training camp. Of course, Brady quickly became a superstar whose health was more important than getting snaps in August exhibitions, and yet over 22 years, his preseason career is prolific, with 5,920 passing yards, 46 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. “The opportunity to go up and down the field in the two-minute drill with Tom and understanding how that works, that’s how I made teams for the rest of my career,” Morey said. Even the game story from the Patriots’ official site makes no mention of Brady. The New York Times story off the game mentions rookie quarterbacks, but it was San Francisco’s Giovanni Carmazzi, drafted ahead of Brady that year, and 49ers seventh-rounder Tim Rattay. Not a week later, Brady and Morey would connect again, this time a more auspicious sign of things to come. He entered the game with 9:36 left and the Patriots up 20-0, and went 3-for-4 for 28 yards.
Legendary is just one way to put Tom Brady's NFL career. Everything about his journey is iconic, starting from being an unheralded sixth-round.
Auman tweeted, “If anyone suggests that Tom Brady never plays in the preseason, his career preseason stats: 5,920 yards, 46 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions. Last year: 12-for-16 for 163 and a TD between two appearances. Which underwhelming veteran will be Panthers' QB in 2022? Who'll get goal line carries in KC? What about the Patriots cornerbacks?
If the Bears are going to overachieve — and Fields is going to start playing to his massive potential — someone in this group will need to step up in a big way. Cameron Heyward is the ideal example; he not only gets to the quarterback but has been a constant presence in the backfield, averaging 13 tackles for loss per 17 games since 2014. The Patriots signed Butler in what was supposed to be a feel-good story and potential distraction from the fact All-Pro JC Jackson left in free agency this fall. The team addressed that issue this offseason, signing White from the Chargers and drafting Dean in the third round. He also languished in free agency after failing a physical with the Chicago Bears in March. Pringle is the clubhouse leader to earn targets behind Mooney after more than doubling his career totals for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns in 2021. Players like Pringle and Harry could put up decent numbers simply because no one is pushing them for playing time and, with a limited roster, Fields will be tasked with throwing this team back from deficits throughout the season. Pickett is more of an unknown; a higher-ceiling, lower-floor commodity who shredded college defenses last fall and put up big numbers even in his bad games. Fortunately for Edwards-Helaire and Jones, expectations are low and the chance for a breakthrough is real. Darnold had a head start thanks to an extra year of familiarity with Rhule’s system and the team’s wideouts, but his 2021 campaign suggests that won’t make a difference. Replacing former Chief Darrel Williams to push Edwards-Helaire for carries this fall will be former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ronald Jones. Jones had one of the worst recent rookie seasons on record after gaining 44 yards on 23 carries in 2018, but has since emerged as an effective platoon back. Cleveland gave up on him after a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder led to a terrible 2021.
Josh Jacobs and rookie Zamir White ran well on a rain-soaked field and the Raiders routed Jacksonville 27-11 in the Hall of Fame game Thursday night.
Daniel Carlson connected on field goals of 32 and 55 yards to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Down 27-3, the Jaguars found the end zone when Kyle Sloter tossed a five-yard TD pass to Nathan Cottrell late in the fourth quarter. Jacksonville’s Willie Johnson returned a punt 88 yards for a score on the final play of the third quarter but it was nullified by a holding penalty. He’s tasked with trying to turn one of the league’s worst organizations into a winner. To have an opportunity to do that with him here, my family and people who helped me along the way, it was a special night for them. “It’s the first time I’ve been to this Hall of Fame game it in 22 years.

Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill have gotten used to playing with Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, arguably the two best quarterbacks in football. Shortly after Wilson’s old team plays, the man himself will make his Broncos debut in primetime against America’s Team. As a 33-year-old veteran, it’s always unclear how much Wilson will actually play. Cowboys vs. There aren’t many true quarterback competitions this summer, but this game will feature two clear-cut battles. On the Patriots’ side, it’ll be a revenge game for quarterbacks coach Joe Judge and safety Jabrill Peppers. For the Giants, new head coach Brian Daboll is a former Bill Belichick assistant. The NFL season is inching closer.
Dan Marcus analyzes the risers and fallers early in training camp, including Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz.
He has gone from final-round pick to the team's kick returner in the preseason, which will give him a chance to further showcase his explosiveness. The team has been so aggressive with a plan to limit Stafford because they are worried the issue will escalate throughout the course of the season. McKenzie is competing with offseason addition Jamison Crowder for the slot role in Buffalo. McKenzie has only 99 career receptions in six professional seasons, but the departure of Cole Beasley will give him the opportunity to earn his most substantial offensive role in any season in his career. Metcalf is in the opposite position of Hamler and the other receivers in the Denver offense, as the quality of his targets is likely to decrease significantly this season following the departure of Russell Wilson. That's been a part of the analysis all offseason, but there have been specific reports from Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic indicating that Metcalf and quarterbacks Drew Lock and Geno Smith have not been on the same page in practice. Without the Seahawks unexpectedly upgrading their quarterback room before the start of the regular season, his slide is likely to continue. All eyes are on rookie Treylon Burks in Tennessee, who is attempting to do his best A.J. Brown impression in his first season as a pro. The calendar flipped to August and draft season is underway in earnest. Michael Gallup, who's coming off an ACL injury, isn't expected to be ready for Week 1 and James Washington suffered a broken foot that will sideline him until at least late September. The team lost Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson this offseason, so there are plenty of vacated targets available. Before getting too excited about Hamler in drafts, it will be worth monitoring his own health situation while recovering from a torn ACL. Recent reports state that he has participated in individual drills but has yet to return to team activities. Pickens has used his extra exposure to his advantage and drawn plenty of buzz thanks to some athletic leaping grabs. The calendar flipped to August and draft season is underway in earnest.
