2022 - 8 - 4

Game Preview | WPG at MTL - Winnipeg Blue Bombers (bluebombers.com)

Home/Road: The Blue Bombers are 5-0 on the road this year with victories in Ottawa, Toronto, B.C., Edmonton and Calgary. Montreal is 1-1 at home in 2022.

“Setting the tone and bringing his physicality to the game has been great,” said Collaros of the importance of Oliveira’s work along the ground behind the O-line. “It’s something that really gets the offence going. That’s one short of the most ever in a Blue Bombers game – there were eight in a 49-41 win over Saskatchewan on September 8, 1991. We don’t pay attention to what any other team brings to the table. “That’s part of why we’re so effective and how we are – because we pay attention to what happens under our roof. That’s what we want to continue to do – make sure that there’s no drop off and we’re playing at a high level every game.” He’s one of the best edge rushers in the CFL. He’s always a great compliment to Willie (Jefferson), too, and they’ll make something happen, I’m sure.” But when I step out on the field, I’m ready to go Jackson Jeffcoat and do my thing out there.” Of note: Zach Collaros did not start either of those games, with Sean McGuire taking the first snap last year and Chris Streveler in the 2019 game. Montréal has the only sweep (2003), with the other four being splits. - Collaros threw for four TDs in last week’s win in Calgary, his fifth time accomplishing that feat since 2015. “I’m sure he’ll be ready to go and he’s always angry – especially after having to sit out for so long,” said O’Shea when asked what he expected in Jeffcoat’s return after missing three games. Take note: The Bombers have lost their last two trips to Montreal – a 28-14 setback in their second-last regular season game a year ago and the infamous ‘Montreal Meltdown’ in 2019, a game in which the Als scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter for a 38-37 victory.

Thanks to a strong second half on Thursday night, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished the first half of their 2022 CFL season unbeaten.

As the game moved into the second quarter, Montreal would drive it down to the Winnipeg 5, but the Bombers defence held strong and forced a turnover on downs. Montreal responded quickly thanks in large part to big plays from receiver Tyson Philpot, a 60-yard kickoff return and a 15-yard receiving touchdown. But the home team would be held to a 24-yard David Côté field goal.

That has only been done once when Calgary went 12-0 in the 1948 regular campaign before winning the two game total point play-off against the Roughriders and capturing their first Grey Cup a week later over Ottawa 12-7. During the final fifteen minutes, the Bombers scored on three of their four drives to cement the win. The third-year Alouette was one of the league’s best receivers in 2021, making 56 catches for 898 yards and 11 touchdowns. He came close to making two sacks in the second quarter, though one was negated by a penalty and the other saw Trevor Harris pitch the ball forward at the last second. Every win is worth two points whether it happens in June or November. Teams that struggle through the first half of the season don’t need pundits to make excuses for them — they need to find ways to get better. It was an impressive performance from Jeffcoat, though it would have been better had he not later delivered a low hit on Dominique Davis that drew a flag for roughing the passer. The Blue Bombers have reached the midway point of their season with a perfect 9-0 record. If you haven’t already seen it, make sure to find a clip of Marc-Antoine Dequoy’s interception from late in the third quarter. He also knocked down a pass intended for Dalton Schoen early in the third quarter. The team was playing its fourth game in 19 days and third-straight game on the road. They forced Montreal into a turnover on downs in the red zone early in the second quarter before chasing Trevor Harris from the game following two fourth-quarter interceptions. The constant honking was audible on TSN’s television broadcast, which caused quite a stir on social media. Zach Collaros threw an interception and lost a fumble in the first quarter as he was under siege from Montreal’s pass-rush. Winnipeg painted a masterpiece at McMahon Stadium in Calgary last week, putting forth one of the most impressive performances the CFL has seen in years.

Short week for the Blue Bombers, who played Saturday night in Calgary and are on the road for a third game in a row. Assistant general manager Danny McManus first took notice of Schoen on a visit to Chiefs camp and after his agent set him up for a phone call with the former CFL quarterback, the wheels were in motion. Lions crushed the Elks 59-15 In opening week in Vancouver, but Edmonton has been far more competitive since then. It was the right decision, but nobody wants to see that happen. So close in many games during an 0-6 start, the Redblacks were full marks for their 23-13 win in Toronto against the Argonauts. Collaros, Schoen and Hamilton Tiger-Cats receiver Jaelon Acklin were named the CFL’s performers of the month for July this week. Very high football IQ. He’s getting better and better each week and understanding the CFL game and understanding how to play the receiver position. “He could run away from kids in high school but I don’t think people thought he was going to be able to run away from guys in college. To be able to have the chance to play professional football is incredible as well.” The six-foot-one, 218-pound Schoen is third in the league in receiving yards after hauling in eight catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns in a thrilling 35-28 win over the Calgary Stampeders last week. Didn’t expect it,” the former coach of Blue Valley Northwest, in Overland Park, Kansas, said over the phone this week. “You always hope for good things to happen to good people.

The Bombers' offence was admittedly run based, but created huge game changing plays through the air on second down as quarterback Zach Collaros picked apart ...

All of this with Collaros pulling the strings and more often than not knowing the right moment to take a deep shot or keep it conservative. To be your team’s most efficient receiver when targeted, its most explosive and deepest targeted and lead the team in receivers is all incredibly impressive. Collaros is completing 50 per cent of his targets to Schoen beyond 20-yards depth, a feat only one other Bombers pass catcher (Agudosi) can match. Heading into a Week 9 road tilt with Montreal, Schoen leads all Bombers receivers with 18.2 yards per catch, five explosive catches of 30-yards or more, and 49 targets. Below is a look at the CFL receiver landscape through Week 8 this season. The bigger picture answer was a collection of talent including Rasheed Bailey, Nic Demski, Carlton Agudosi, Drew Wolitarsky and more.

It’s been a short week for the Blue Bombers as they play in Calgary on Saturday night and play in three games in a row. The Lions beat the Elks he 59-15 in their opening week in Vancouver, but Edmonton has been much more competitive since then. It’s hard when you’re a rookie and you’re at the bottom of the list. You’re shuffled to the bottom of the list. • The Ottawa Redblacks take their first win of the season. • The Alouettes-Tiger-Cats game had an unfortunate ending when a concussion spotter ordered Montreal quarterback Trevor Harris off the field for the final play after being hit hard. Elks GM/coach Chris Jones has been busy shuffling the roster during the goodbye week. I’ve seen Twitter clips of what he’s doing there, he’s still running away from people and scoring touchdowns, it’s really fun to watch. I didn’t expect it,” the former coach of the Blue Valley Northwest in Overland Park, Kansas, said by phone this week. Now, after arriving in Winnipeg without fanfare, Shane is an integral part of the 8-0 Blue Bombers team. “That’s the neatest thing about it. “You always want good things to happen to good people.
