The race for the Republican nomination for governor is seen as a proxy war between the two men weighing up a 2024 run for president.
She is projected to win her primary, with a comprehensive lead over second placed Marco Lopez. Those votes are not counted yet," Lake said, via KTAR. "There is no path to victory for my opponent and we won this race. She was behind by nine points at around the midway stage of the count. It may also give an indication of whether Republican voters are ready to move on from 2020. Period." As a result, the GOP primary for governor in Arizona has the subplot of being the center of a proxy war between Trump and Pence—with both men reportedly considering a 2024 run for president.

Because at the end of the day, we’re going to win this thing.” “Whether you cast a ballot for me or one of my opponents, every legitimate vote counts.” Robson — who also was endorsed by former New Jersey Gov. But moderate Republicans generally believe in the integrity of the system and the election officials who run it. They would have liked to see more moderate Republicans prevail, but they don’t believe the fix was in. She sure as hades can be if she can win the governor’s office. The question now is can “the racist” Hobbs be redeemed? Fifty legislatures, not the Supreme Court, will now determine the future of reproductive and fetal rights. She spent as much time spearing moderate Republicans as she did liberal Democrats. With her rudder jammed so far right, it’s not clear how she can ever tack to the center.

Democratic nominee Hobbs, as Arizona’s top elections official, endeared herself to party voters with an impassioned defense of the integrity of the 2020 election, a stance that has drawn death threats. She also emphasized Lake’s prior support for Democrats, including a $350 contribution to the last Democratic president. Masters emphasized cultural grievances that animate the right, including critical race theory and allegations of big tech censorship. Lake is well known in much of the state after anchoring the evening news in Phoenix for more than two decades. Finchem was at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 — the day of the riot — and claims Trump was cheated out of a second term. Federal and state election officials and Trump’s own attorney general have said there is no credible evidence the 2020 election was tainted. Trump endorsed and campaigned for a group of candidates who supported his falsehoods about the 2020 election, including Lake, who says she would have refused to certify President Joe Biden’s narrow Arizona victory. Robson, whose housing developer husband is one of the state’s richest men, mostly self-financed her campaign. Though Trump is still the most popular figure inside the GOP, his efforts to influence primary elections this year have yielded mixed results. A hand recount led by Trump supporters in Maricopa County, Arizona’s largest, found no proof of a stolen election and concluded Biden’s margin of victory was larger than the official count. She said Tuesday night that changing election laws was her top priority. Trump-backed state lawmaker Mark Finchem won the Republican primary to oversee elections as secretary of state — Hobbs’ current job.
Congratulations to my home state for full making the transition to full blown MAGA/conspiracy theory/fraudster"
"This is the Cindy McCain branch of the Republican Party," said of the establishment GOP on a podcast. In response, McCain quickly backtracked, claiming that "my initial predictions were right despite the initial excitement of Robson pulling ahead." The winner will advance to the November general election to take on Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

Kari Lake, the GOP candidate for Governor in Arizona, is tweeting her way to victory in the Republican primary.
Right-wing accounts have been quick to hop on the bandwagon of accepting the Lake victory as fact. Lake advocated for the imprisonment of her would-be opponent in the general election in November, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, citing unspecified election crimes. Lake cozied up to the former president, repeatedly denouncing the results of the 2020 election and advocating for stricter election laws in her campaign speeches.
The Trump-endorsed champion of voter-fraud allegations now gets to experience the slow uncertainty of tallying votes first-hand.
Again, Lake’s lead (unlike Scott’s in 2018 or Trump’s deficit in 2020) is probably large enough that she will be certified as the winner. But it establishes the idea that the race is hers, setting the stage for the candidate and her team to potentially present that any shift in Robson’s favor as illicit or fraudulent. The two counties that have reported outstanding votes are both ones in which Lake is leading. He earned only 39 percent of the vote against his competitors’ 29 percent and 18 percent, but in a first-past-the-post contest, that was enough. The difference, of course, is that Lake took the lead as votes were counted. That Lake is still waiting to see if she won and Masters isn’t is in part a function of the field of candidates in each race.
After a year of blasting fellow Republicans, Kari Lake wants all RINOS, doormats, golddiggers and globalists to get behind her campaign for governor.
“It just shows you how dangerous the RINO-class of the Republican Party is,” Lake said on Steve Bannon’s podcast. Ward not only took sides in multiple Republican primaries. And this is why they stabbed President Trump in the back on the fourth of November and we remember that.” Let’s do this!” “This is the Cindy McCain branch of the Republican Party. They’re not Republicans. They’re globalists and they want – I think they want an end to America. They want a globalist agenda, a new world order, whatever you want to call it.” Lake, who defeated Karrin Taylor Robson in the GOP governor’s race, held a news conference on Wednesday to take a victory lap and call on Republicans to come together for the coming campaign for governor.

"And she wants to take that incompetence that she's shown as secretary of state and move it to the governor's office?'' Fever dreams about The Donald’s loss still sell with a large chunk of Arizona’s GOP base, but it pushes away other Republicans, most independents and all Democrats. Stephen Richer, a Republican and staunch defender of the 2020 results, presided over Maricopa County’s vote on Tuesday. Either both turned “ultra MAGA” or the election wasn’t stolen, then or now. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, was secretary of state then and now. Then, in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, when “no one was watching,” everything had flipped. With an estimated 40% of the votes counted, she led Kari Lake by more than 10 percentage points. Arizona still has mail-in ballots, voting sites still use felt-tip pens, and election night still features an achingly slow vote count. The election process hasn’t changed much. On Election night 2020, I too was confused by Biden’s rapid turn of fortune. Instead of calling for counts, recounts and audits, Lake saw enough by late Tuesday night, despite an estimated 20% of ballots were yet to be counted. I did a bit of reading and emerged more informed on the other side. “There is no path to victory for my opponent and we won this race. “They had felt-tip markers, and I was told not to use the felt-tip markers. A Lake supporter who identified herself as Lisette hurled profane insults at journalists from “liberal” news outlets. And yet, “Journalism is dead,” Lake told her enraptured followers. Lake called the media “disgusting” for conspiring to cover up massive fraud in the 2020 general election, a comment met with deafening applause. “Our election system is messed up,” Lake said. “We show up on Election Day.” Taylor Robson held a nearly double-digit lead for hours after the polls closed, but large “ballot dumps” containing mostly votes for Lake surfaced overnight, tipping the scales. He was also ordered to pay $500 in restitution and a $5,000 fine, and was sentenced to community service. The demand for Ketel One vodka and soda water at the open bar had dwindled, and Blake Shelton’s “Boys ’Round Here” no longer energized the crowd. “Is that a Motel 6? Kari Lake is different.” The event, a watch party for gubernatorial Republican hopeful Kari Lake, was three-and-a-half hours old.
The Arizona GOP gubernatorial race hasn't been called but that hasn't stopped Kari Lake's allies from making up new and recycling old conspiracy theories ...
On Tuesday, Democrats nominated Katie Hobbs—the incumbent secretary of state who Lake called to throw in jail over baseless fraud allegations. In turn, she endorsed baseless claims and narratives about the 2020 election, and amplified Arizona Republicans’ shambolic attempts to prove that Trump actually won the state. Of course, there was election fraud,” he told The Daily Beast in an interview on Wednesday. “She won in spite of the algorithm,” he added, attempting to reason obvious dissonance between the two ideas. Both were debunked shortly after it was raised after the election in 2020 when Arizona’s Pima County tweeted: “No ballots will be discarded because of the method used to color in the ovals,” referring to “Sharpiegate.” But overnight, Lake made up the ground she’d lost to Karrin Taylor Robson, her main rival for Arizona’s GOP nomination for governor. “We are not going to take our election systems being this messed up.”
