Tiger Woods turned down an offer that Greg Norman says was 'somewhere in that neighbourhood' of US$700 million to $800 million to take part in the ...
"I really don't care," Norman said. "So they had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. So, yes, that number was somewhere in that neighbourhood." During an appearance on Fox News with Tucker Carlson that aired Monday night, Norman confirmed what he told the Washington Post in a story two months ago.
LIV Golf offered Tiger Woods around $700-$800 million to defect from the PGA Tour, Greg Norman revealed.
"What is the incentive to go out there and earn it in the dirt? "What these players are doing for guaranteed money, what is the incentive to practice?" "That number was out there before I became CEO," Norman said.
Tiger Woods turned down LIV Golf's nine-figure offer but it would have been historic had the golfer accepted it.
“I know what the PGA Tour stands for and what we have done and what the Tour has given us," he later added. Like James and Jordan, most of Woods' earnings have come via his off-the-field deals and endorsements. In fact, the LIV Golf money wouldn't have just dwarfed Woods' career earnings either. Even despite the monumental nature of LIV Golf's offer, Woods wasn't tempted by it. Had Woods accepted that offer from LIV Golf, it would have been historic. They had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. That number is somewhere in that neighborhood.
The new event is set for October 8-10 and will feature 60 boy and girl junior golfers competing at the Links at Spanish Bay and the The Hay.
“I am excited to welcome a diverse field of young golfers to the TGR JR Invitational presented by TaylorMade,” Woods said in a press release. A 27-hole qualifying round will take place on The Hay on the first day of competition followed by championship and consolation matches on The Links at Spanish Bay on Day 2. The new event is set for October 8-10 and will feature 60 boy and girl junior golfers competing at the Links at Spanish Bay and the The Hay, the short course recently redesigned by Tiger’s TGR Design.
Woods' offer is roughly four times more than what Phil Mickelson signed with LIV Golf.
Woods is an avowed critic of LIV Golf, saying last month he believes golfers who joined the tour “turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position,” ripping into LIV Golf’s 54-hole, no-cut format. Mickelson’s $138 million in earnings last year easily led all golfers, buoyed largely by his massive up-front payment from the tour. Norman told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that LIV Golf offered Woods “somewhere in the neighborhood” of between $700 million and $800 million, explaining “Tiger is a needle mover.”
TGR Live is partnering with Pebble Beach Company and TaylorMade to host the TGR JR Invitational presented by TaylorMade, Oct. 8-10, 2022.

The objection here is not within golf, it’s the idea of the Saudi royal family.” Golfers and broadcasters who made, or even sought to make the jump to LIV Golf, have been accused of being tools to help Saudi Arabia sportswash its image. And while LIV Golf supporters have cited the PGA Tour’s indirect links to Saudi Arabia through its own various business partners, Costas explained why there’s a major difference.
