According to Blue Jays Nation's very own Brendon Kuhn, the Blue Jays are in talks with the Los Angeles Angels about Noah Syndergaard.

However, if he is on the decline, the contract could be a nuisance to the Jays. Ryan Tepera and Aaron Loup. While the jays haven’t been linked to them at all, it could make sense. It’d be awesome to see the Jays come full circle and acquire Syndergaard. He would slot in perfectly as the fifth starter. He definitely offers swing and miss, as he has a K% of 32.9% while keeping the free passes down to 6.2%. If the Jays get the Iglesias he’s been for the majority of his career, then sign me up! However, after the surgery, his velocity dropped to the mid-90s. He signed a one-year, $21,000,000 with the bad team from LA. His K% sits at 18.9%, but it has been rising as he’s shaken off the rust. What worries me is his contract. Furthermore, if the Jays want to run a six-man rotation he and Kikuchi could fill in the back end of the rotation. According to Blue Jays Nation’s own Thomas Hall, the Blue Jays have also been in talks with the Angels about their closer, Raisel Iglesias. According to Blue Jays Nation’s very own Brendon Kuhn, the Blue Jays are in talks with the Los Angeles Angels about Noah Syndergaard.

The Phillies reportedly were shopping for a starter they could put into a playoff rotation. But since the Angels currently come in about $20 million under the luxury tax threshold, they might insist upon prospects in a deal. Might they reunite in a starting rotation?

I don’t think Thor would be nearly as bad as Heaney was, but in terms of depth starting pitchers, JP Sears can probably put up a similar performance at this point, if not better. Last season, the inability of the team to trade for a true impact starting pitcher at the deadline loomed large and made every bad Andrew Heaney outing taste a little worse. There’s also the specter of his long time off since throwing a full season, similar to Luis Severino’s. His time missed was due to Tommy John surgery, and he threw exactly two innings between the 2020 and 2021 seasons. There are a few signs that Syndergaard has been lucky to get the results he has — his BABIP is an extremely low .276, for one. Nevertheless, Syndergaard has managed a 3.83 ERA this season, albeit with a higher expected ERA of 4.23. Still, that’s a serviceable bottom of the rotation pitcher. The former longtime Met is pitching his first full season since 2019, and should be available with his team struggling mightily.

That's a pretty nonchalant answer from the big tackle, but he explained that he's just doing his job for the Lions, and right now, his job is doing whatever his head coach asks him to do. "We’re going to have to get the deal that we want that gets us an opportunity to become a championship organization faster than not trading him.” As for the St. Louis Cardinals, it’s possible that they could be going all in for a Soto trade with mere hours to go before the deadline. That's what the Lions need from Sewell, so fans have to be excited about a recent report from training camp that paints the big tackle -- and Campbell -- in the best kind of light. One of those star players, and one of the most important players in the organization, is tackle Penei Sewell, who the Lions drafted with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Sewell, at 6-foot-5, 335 pounds, boasts extreme athleticism and a nasty streak that make it easy to predict that he'll be one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL for years to come. Venus Williams returned to singles action for the first time in nearly a year on Monday, but she immediately fell at the Citi Open in Washington. Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino rallied past Williams 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in first-round action. Gio Urshela hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday night to give the Minnesota Twins a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Minneapolis. Detroit took a 3-2 lead off Twins reliever Griffin Jax (5-2) with one out in the top of the inning when Akil Baddoo singled in Willi Castro, who was placed on second base to start the inning. According to Russo, those allegations “have largely been refuted,” and Kaprizov is able to defer his military obligations as a student of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. Kaprizov is Minnesota’s most important player at any position. ESPN is reporting that according to its sources, the Cowboys fear Washington suffered a foot fracture during training camp on Monday. The report comes complete with a video from training camp that shows Washington running a deep route down the sideline while covered by superstar cornerback Trevon Diggs. The pass to Washington was broken up by Diggs, but the corner did create significant contact in the process. He really focuses on the shapes and what his pitches do and what it takes to get guys out." "I've got to play ball, got to make adjustments at the plate, and that's what I'm focused on." A trade of starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard by the Los Angeles Angels has reportedly become "more likely" ahead of Tuesday's 2022 MLB trade deadline.

"I think it would be a bittersweet moment, just because I've loved my time here. When and if it does happen, I'll have a better idea of what my thoughts are. "I've thought about that, probably a bit just because it's been brought up in the past," he told reporters. He'll be a free agent at season's end. Syndergaard could still provide a modest boost for a contender down the stretch, though he's a rather costly rental as the acquiring team would have to pay the remaining portion of his one-year, $21 million contract. While the 29-year-old right-hander has been a solid mid-rotation arm for the Angels this season, he still hasn't shown signs of a full return to form.

Angels reportedly trade Noah Syndergaard to Phillies (Los Angeles Times)

Angels pitcher Noah Syndergaard reportedly was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Earlier, the Angels sent Brandon Marsh to the Phillies.

He had a stellar 2021, in which he jumped from high A to triple A over the course of the season, batting .210 with a .789 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. In 75 games in double A this season, he hit .275 with an .888 OPS. His addition gives the Angels a top-rated player at a position they are thin at. He also has five starts in which he pitched into the sixth inning and gave up two or fewer runs. Working with the stuff that I have is going to make me a better pitcher for when the plus stuff comes back. The outings helped showcase that he was still worthy of being a big league pitcher despite the significant time missed. Syndergaard also can’t receive a qualifying offer, since he was already extended one in 2021 by the New York Mets. Syndergaard lowered his ERA to 3.83 for the season after a solid outing against the Royals in Kansas City on July 25. “Thor” as he’s affectionately called by fans, rose through the ranks as a fireballer, pitching in the high 90s and triple digits. And hopefully, I can dominate even more.” He pitched 5 2/3 innings of six-hit, two-walk, one-run ball. In a series of moves made in the last hours and minutes of this year’s trade deadline, the Angels on Tuesday traded Syndergaard and Marsh to the Philadelphia Phillies and Iglesias to the Atlanta Braves.

If Syndergaard can keep the strong showings going — Syndergaard gave up one earned in 5.2 innings in his last start — he can add some real value as a middle-of-the-rotation arm. He's got a little pop and decent speed, attributes the Angels need now more than ever amid concerns over Mike Trout's long-term health and Shohei Ohtani's long-term future. Nola and Wheeler are studs, while Zach Eflin and Ranger Suarez have made some positive contributions in the red-and-white this season. At 24 years old, though, there's still a little time for Moniak to grow. He's slowed since then, slashing .239/.288/.725 in 142 at-bats. With Syndergaard back in the NL East, the Phillies have a pretty formidable rotation.

Although it was widely reported that the Jays had an interest in the 29-year-old, per Jeff Passan, the Phillies have acquired the large right-hander.

This season, Syndergaard has posted a 3.83 ERA and a 3.96 FIP in 80 innings pitched. While his ERA of 4.04 and FIP of 3.17 is definitely solid, he has seen a drop in his velocity, which has led to inconsistent results. He has also posted a K% of 18.9% and BB% of 6.5%. For his career, the 6’6 righty has a K% of 25.6% and a BB% of 5.7%. It is of note, however, that when I wrote the “Meet the Sellers” on the Angels on July 13th, he only had a K/9 of 7.02. Since then, it has risen to 7.20. In fact, in his past six starts, Syndergaard has a K/9 of 9.09 over 33.2 innings pitched. I’ll be honest with you, I’m glad the Jays didn’t have to take on the full contract of Iglesias. While the 32-year-old is only making $10 million this season, his contract is backloaded, meaning he’ll be making $16 million for each of the next three seasons. He signed a one-year deal worth $21,000,000 with the Angels last free agency and will be a free agent at the end of 2022.
