Magomed Ankalaev secured his biggest win yet, defeating Anthony Smith at UFC 277 in Dallas on Saturday - with Lionheart suffering an apparent leg injury.

In the final minute, Smith launched a heavy overhand right, and would later go off-balance and fall to his back, not that Ankalaev had any intention of joining him on the mat. The ref had seen enough, waving it off, after which Smith could be heard saying he had broken his leg — potentially on one of the earlier leg kicks. Smith would briefly catch a kick with about two minutes left in the round, but Ankalaev quickly pulled his leg free.

Anthony Smith said he suffered a broken leg in the aftermath of his TKO loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 277.

In addition, it appears that Ankalaev managed to damage Smith’s ankle with either a check or calf kick, and that injury had a major impact on the fight. Smith tried to build up into a single leg, but Ankalaev sprawled and landed short strikes. On the whole, Ankalaev was landing the heavier kicks, including a notable high kick with about 90 seconds remaining in the round.
