NEW WESTMINSTER, C.-B.

The RCMP officer also testified he found “actual fragments of chat” between Todd and several of the online aliases on one of the seized devices, she said. The jury saw evidence that Todd’s harasser repeatedly demanded she perform sexual “shows” on a web camera, and followed through on threats to send sexualized images of the teenager to her family and classmates. The officer testified he found evidence that several of the accounts used to harass Todd had logged in to social media platforms on the seized devices, she said. She took the jury to testimony from a B.C. RCMP expert in digital forensics, who last month told the court about finding a folder bearing Todd’s name that had been deleted from a web browser on one of the seized devices. Louise Kenworthy told the jury trial of Aydin Coban that previous expert testimony showed Todd’s name and several of the online aliases used to harass her were also found on a second hard drive seized when Dutch police arrested Coban in 2014. But his guilt was the only inference the jury could draw from the testimony of more than 30 witnesses and binders full of 80 exhibits, she said.

Amanda Todd trial: Crown draws links between accused, 'sextortion ... (Globalnews.ca)

Aydin Coban, 44, has pleaded not guilty to harassment, extortion, luring and possession of child pornography in the trial, now in its eighth week.

Among the data on one drive was a deleted bookmark to a pornographic website hosting an explicit video of Todd, the court heard. Coban’s defence maintains there is no link between him and the online extortionist. Citing testimony by RCMP digital forensics expert Sgt. Keith Hack, Kenworthy said one drive also contained a folder in Todd’s name with other deleted bookmarks to Todd’s friends’ Facebook pages. “You know there is no witness to say, ‘I saw Aydin Coban typing messages on his computer to Amanda Todd using the alias Tyler Boo or anything like that. On Thursday, Crown prosecutor Marcel Daigle told the jury that a video with the file name “Amanda Todd” was played on a device police seized from Coban’s cabin in the Netherlands. Daigle said the file was played in December 2010, citing evidence presented by a Dutch cybercrime expert, which corresponded directly with one of the periods Todd was being extorted. Coban is not charged with her death.

Daigle told the jury it did not matter who originally created the videos and images depicting Todd in a sexual manner. The Crown doesn’t know what the video depicted because it had been deleted by the time Coban was arrested, Daigle said. He recalled expert testimony from a digital forensic specialist with Vancouver police, who had said the only way to display a profile picture on Facebook was to upload the image, meaning it had to have been stored on a digital device. But the Dutch expert said it had not been streamed online, and instead had been played from a file that existed on the device. They include a phone number, a passport photo, and a video file with the name “AmandaTodd.wmv” that a Dutch police expert said was played on a device seized from the home of Aydin Coban in 2014. One of the Facebook accounts used to harass Todd, which was linked to several others, was registered with a mobile phone number, Guinn said.
