It uses your phone or watch to deliver all of the capabilities of the basic MagicBand in a device that you already own, charge and carry with you. The games are a fun extra, and should be a hit with kids. Currently, this consists of a Star Wars Bounty Hunty game in Galaxy's Edge, a game to discover the Fab 50 character statues, and synchronized lighting with Disney's nighttime shows. To power the extra functionality of the MagicBand+, the device uses a rechargeable battery that Disney says should be charged daily overnight. This brings the likely device charging count to eight for every single night of the vacation. Taking a family of four, each night, they will be charging four MagicBand+ devices, phones for the adults, and possibly watches.

The MagicBand+ will buzz and light up when you get close to a statue and when you wave the character will give you a response. Many thought that it was the end for MagicBands when the complimentary MagicBand program for Walt Disney World resort guests finished at the beginning of 2021. With many complaining of battery drain when having to continually use the My Disney Experience App, Disney seems to have responded and MagicBand+ seems to be their answer. The current MagicBands can still be used at Walt Disney World but the new interactive features will only work if you purchase a MagicBand+. The new MagicBand+ will light up and will interact with the Fab 50 statues around the park with each statue said to have multiple responses. Disney World cast members want you to have a magical day, but they are not your friend.
Having said that, one hopes we can draw the line at asking Cast Members to literally go against the rules, right? The fact is that Cast Members will, generally speaking, be really nice to you and will help you with whatever your problem is to the best of their ability. Walt Disney World is a magical place and a bit part of the reason for that is the Cast Members that work there. And sometimes Cast Members get a lot of grief for doing the job. It’s maybe not actually that surprising that some people would start to react to cast members like this. I could even see somebody trying to make a joke, that I'm sure every Cast Member has heard so often it's not funny anymore, about getting them in for free, but the way its presented here some people aren't trying to be funny.

If the MagicBand+ dies, it does still function as a regular MagicBand. This means you would still be able to use it to enter a park or your hotel room, and for Lightning Lane and DAS access. As we have used our MagicBand+ for the past few hours, we’ve found that the batteries do charge quickly, but they also drain quickly. Guests are having some issues with their MagicBand+ battery after the new bands launched at Walt Disney World today.
