The two sides have already met once this year, with the 'Caps taking a 1-0 decision in MLS play back on May 5.

“From what I gather, Vancouver are pushing hard to try to have a big turnout in the stadium,” he added. And for them the opportunity to host the final, I think from little bits I pick up, I think it’s going to be a big occasion in the city on Tuesday night. “Now it’s a cup final and obviously for them it’s a big deal. We’re playing a team that we come up against a lot of times, and that are considered our rivals and we want to win.” “That’s what it’s about — it’s bragging rights, all the motivation is there. “So I think it’s an enormous game.

The Whitecaps Interest In Lowell Wright Is Real - Northern Tribune (Northern Tribune)

In 2020, the club also sold midfielder Emilio Estevez-Tsai to Dutch top flight side ADO Den Haag. The Brampton-born forward may be just 18 years of age, but Wright’s potential move to Major League Soccer heights comes in his third season of professional football. This season has already seen York United sell star left-back Diayeddine Abzi to French Ligue 2 Pau FC, with a young-leaning Nine Stripes side now evidently bearing the fruit of their labour in terms of youth development.

The Canadian Championship winner will be decided Tuesday, and, yet again, it will come down to a battle between teams in Major League Soccer.

With Anthony-Kaye and Michael Bradley in midfield, it won't be a surprise at all to see the reds wrap up their eighth Canadian Championship. Things got a lot harder for the Whitecaps with Toronto's new designated players debuting on Saturday. Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi only played a half over the weekend, but Toronto scored four goals against Charlotte FC to show the impact their new star attackers can have. Toronto specifically has dominated in the competition, winning eight times in 14 tries.

In the match against Portland Gauld played quite centrally and sometimes pushed furthest forward of anyone on the ‘Caps, having him drop back a little more to try and get on the ball in the build-up could maybe work well. My guess would be that Jake Nerwinski will be in the lineup, despite the fact that he’s had a number of shaky moments himself. Vanni Sartini’s lineup rotation against Chicago pointed to a prioritizing of Tuesday’s match, with Ryan Gauld, Andrés Cubas, Tristan Blackmon, and newcomer Julian Gressel all only playing 45 minutes, and Ranko Veselinović not playing at all.

At the other end, the Whitecaps enter tonight's match on a losing note, having lost their previous MLS outing to the Chicago Fire FC 3-1 this past weekend. The Vancouver Whitecaps captured the Canadian Championship for the first time since 2015, beating Toronto FC, 5-3 on penalties Tuesday night at BC Place ...

In advance of the final, Toronto FC head coach Bob Bradley singled out Ryan Gauld as a danger man for the Whitecaps and that was proven emphatically inside of 20 minutes when the Scottish DP intercepted a headed clearance and whipped a ball to the far post. After making their anticipated debuts in a 4-0 thrashing of Charlotte FC at BMO Field Saturday night, both Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi were in the Toronto FC starting XI in Vancouver. And it was Insigne who possessed the most dangerous chance to level on the hour mark, but Cody Cropper did well to dive to his left to push away his attempt targeted for inside the far post. In a strange twist, Toronto FC were vying for a second Voyageurs Cup in less than two months after beating Forge FC on penalties to claim the 2020 championship delayed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Sartini had said that Bernardeschi and Lorenzo were the Nos. 1 and 2 players in MLS when healthy, but Ryan Raposo’s pre-game opinion was a little more accurate: “They’re human.” Jayden Nelson’s chip that skimmed the post in the 49th minute was their best non-scoring chance, as most of Toronto’s attacks were blunted in the final third by a compact and well organized defensive block. The Whitecaps haven’t won the possession battle against MLS foes this year, and Tuesday’s game was downhill in the direction of their goal all night. After Toronto’s Jordan Perruzza scored to the bottom left, he heard it from the crowd, then egged them on further with a hand to his ear. Article content Article content

Report and Reaction: Oh so sweet! Whitecaps win second ... (AFTN)

Vancouver Whitecaps lifted the Voyageurs Cup for only the second time in their history after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Toronto FC at an electric BC ...

I was a little bit on the edge, but I knew that the fans were going to help with their noise. Vancouver were up first and Gauld, White, and Julian Gressel all converted their first three attempts, with Domenico Criscito and Jordan Perruzza scoring for the visitors. For Vancouver that meant seven changes to the team that lost at home to Chicago at the weekend. So today we reminded everyone that when we are 100 per cent, we are a very good team. For Vanni Sartini, it’s been a journey that started with this competition, taking over from Marc Dos Santos after last year’s quarter-final loss to Pacific, and has culminated just under a year later with winning his first silverware as a manager. Brian White headed Vancouver on their way in the 19th minute and they held off a strong TFC side until the 75th minute when Lukas MacNaughton headed home the equaliser. “I was confident, but I was also a little bit pissed. The ‘Caps kept pressing but couldn’t find the breakthrough and you wondered how much that might cost them as TFC started to get more into the match. The Whitecaps were full value for their victory, lifting their first Voyageurs Cup since 2015. As it turned out, fairly comfortably for the rest of the half. The team exchanged penalties before up stepped Tristan Blackmon to drill home the Whitecaps’ fifth and final spot kick, securing a long awaited victory and booking the team’s place in next year’s CONCACAF Champions League. Toronto made one enforced change from their impressive 4-0 win over Charlotte at the weekend (Mark Anthony Kaye), starting all three of their recently acquired Italians. That felt a statement of intent from TFC to attack from the start and try to put away the game early as they did at the weekend.

Whitecaps FC captured their second-ever Canadian Championship with an exhilarating win over Toronto FC on Tuesday night at BC Place.

“Today was a special game, everybody was pumped, and I think that we need to take the quality of the first half. “That MVP trophy looks like it could fit a good six or seven beers in it, so I’m going to check that out and see how I get on.” A group led by Carl Robinson and captained by Pedro Morales, an MLS contender, never came to be, but it could be a different case in 2022, with Sartini at the helm. In just the first minute, Lucas Cavallini forced TFC’s Alex Bono into a quick save, and that was only the beginning of Vancouver’s eclectic attacking pressure. In front of 24,307 supporters, the second largest crowd in competition history, the Whitecaps began the match with a vitality that has often eluded them in first halves through league play. “We said from Day 1 that the Canadian Championship was one of our important trophies,” Sartini told reporters.

Toronto FC was defeated 5-3 on penalties by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2022 Canadian Championship Final at BC Place on Tuesday night.

The home side would finish the half in style, piling a bit of pressure on the Toronto backline. After new signing Julian Gressel put away his penalty to make it 3-2, up stepped Toronto FC legend Jonathan Osorio. Osorio’s low shot to the left glided onto the post and out. His scooped shot travelled just wide of the mark with Cropper rooted to the spot. It was then a tame start to the match after that first chance. Kosi Thompson lost his man and Bono was then unable to keep the header out. Alex Bono was tested early, with Lucas Cavallini’s shot on target in the first minute kicked out by the TFC goalkeeper.
